This temple is outside of Siem Reap and is a bit more difficult to see. It is mostly unrestored. The layout is the same as Angkor Wat just a little smaller. Here is a video of Angkor Wat I made on my last visit if you want to see what it would have looked like.

Thank you very much. Are there any other things that you are curious about in this area that I can take a look at? I’m still in Siem Reap so wouldn’t be too difficult.

This temple was built by his younger brother King Tribhuvanaditya after Suryarvarman passed away. It was built as a Buddhist temple because Tribhuvanaditya was the first great Buddhist King of the Khmer empire even before King Jayavarman the 7th came to power. King Tribhuvanaditya ruled the Khmer empire at its peak in 1150-1182 and he was responsible for the Buddhist reform in the Khmer empire. Another interesting thing to know is Beng Melea was in fact a massive city that had more temples, towns, barays, canals, and such spread over a large area.

That is very interesting. I went through this area several times on this trip and there is almost no trace of any of the temples. It’s even difficult finding Beng Mealea. I was looking for it or else I would’ve completely missed it in the trees. I was trying to find a list of other temples in the area but I’m not having any luck. Do you know a site that talks about them? There is very little promotion of this area except for this temple. They are promoting this as part of a day trip to Koh Ker.

@@endlessjourneytravels There are many temples and terraces around the now dried up Baray in Beng Melea. Along the Royal highway from Beng Melea to Prasat kompong Svay temple complex there are many other temples along the side of the road as well. This area is still new and there might be large temples around this area we just don't know yet.

@@imperialkhmer6146 I will have to try to find a few of them on my next trip. I’ve read about some of the efforts to find these old temples, it’s a massive effort with all of the trees covering everything.

@@endlessjourneytravels yeah its quite difficult to get there but might be worth it since you will be the few that will ever set foot there.

@@imperialkhmer6146 that is perfect for me. I try to go to out of the way places. If you see a detailed map or a list of some of the temples that are found please let me know.

I wasn’t sure if I would enjoy this temple or not when I was reading about it. That changed when I was there. The wooden walkway that was raised up above was really amazing. It lets you see these temples in a completely different way. It is a bit out of town but worth the time and effort to get there. Glad you enjoyed it.

can I buy a separate ticket on site - or I need an Angkor pass ?

You will need the Angkor pass to visit this site. You can buy it here instead of at the ticket office near the park entrance but they don’t offer one for just here.

That it does. Lol I did enjoy this temple a lot. The elevated walkway made it very interesting. When you are up above it you can really appreciate the effort of lifting these stones as high as they did.
