    Hello, I've been watching your videos for a month to prep for my exam next week, and so far they have been super helpful. I do have a different perspective on the question about the 40 year old client though, and I would love to get some input. I chose answer C. My reasoning was 1. We would need to understand why his benefits are going away before I can advocate for him. It would be difficult to help him file an appeal if neither of us knows the reasoning for the change in benefits to begin with. 2. Wouldn't it be best to try an empower the client by advising him to reach out for clarification first? I could see the advocacy coming afterward once he obtains clarification or if he encounters barriers to obtaining clarification, but going straight to advocacy feels like skipping a step. Thank you for your work and this channel. I'm looking forward to hearing from you or others on this!

      Hello @Bonsai1589. I chose answer C too. Your exact sentiments were exactly what I was thinking.

    • @Glyzzy1

      That was my thought process as well. If he doesn't know why, he should know why before filing an appeal.

    • @derekdavis3215

      I just finished watching this video and I also chose C. I would think that if he doesn’t understand, we could be on the phone with him as he called the office to get clarification as to why the benefits are ending. Then, we could advocate for him by helping him file an appeal.

    • @tifbonn

      I chose C as well, and that was my exact thinking. I need to know WHY it’s being stopped to assist with an appeal. Is there something that the client is not aware of that is a quick fix before filing the appeal? Let’s ask and find out.

    I just wanted to make a comment because I think some of the tricks that I learned my help somebody else I have found a couple of things from this question for one I did not necessarily get it wrong because I didn't answer it before you did but I noticed that I was trying to answer the question from myself and I am a female and the question it says male clearly. And on another question I was trying to answer it because it matched my job by my experience. Both of these are things that will trip me up on the test

  • @0145brooklyngurl

    The question about the male losing his benefits doesn't make sense to file an appeal especially since he doesn't know why the benefits is being cut off. First thing I would do would be to help the client find out why his benefits were turned off.

      I think the key word is BEST instead NEXT thing to do. I initially went with the same answer as you because I assumed what would be the next thing to do, but I saw the word best, and ended up going with the advocating.

    • @PBTKaizen

      I agree..,, I would first Advise him to follow up and get clarification from the office and THEN I would help appeal the decision. We first have to know WHY … and it stated clearly that he doesn’t know why . In the ethics section , self determination is the second point when it comes to our responsibility to the clients … so promoting their self determination would be to advise him to follow up by himself and then assist with the appeal process as that is likely a more complicated process .
      Curious to know if this came from a practice exam…. Or another social worker … if this was on the exam I’d def get it wrong given the answer .

      @@PBTKaizen I agree with you. Self determination is important but the way I answered this question is not what would be the next thing to do but the best thing to do. When you compare the 2 answers - have the client call and find out or advocate and help him through the process -- which would be the best for the client? The client would still be a part of the process but we would be assisting the client through it rather than having the client do it on their own.
      I think if it asked what was the next thing to do, it would be to have the client call and find out.
      not sure about this specific question but I believe I saw a previous post that she uses Apgar's questions.

    For the last question, when would the social worker reisgn!? Would it be if there would be a conflict with the adolescent?
    If this was in the beginning phase of treatment, would that prompt for the social worker to resign??
