I’m sooo excited that you went to Sprouts! I wouldn’t have been able to afford low waste if I hadn’t started shopping at Sprouts! They also make shopping for specific diets really easy- My mom is on an AIP diet and they even make sure to label things that she can have! Love this store, the accessibility of it, and honestly the people who work there are literally the nicest grocery store employees I’ve ever met!
I used to work there, I love Sprouts! Thanks for sharing. Something to add that people may not consider: please ALWAYS put unwanted refrigerated/frozen items back in their section if you do not want them. as a cashier we would often find people who tuck unwanted items into shelves by checkout. unfortunately, due to health code, we have to discard it if the item becomes too warm. so often we had to throw out things because people changed their mind last minute and wouldn’t put them back. if it’s a rush, just let a cashier know so they can save the item at least 😊
Sprouts is amazing! I used to work there, they have a sustainability goal to be as zero waste as a corporation can be by 2020! They compost all the bad produce, all of the sprouts brand vitamins are in glass bottles (and they’re actually pretty great quality), a lot of items in the sprouts brand are in glass and are cheaper, and you get discounts for bringing reusable bags!
Our Sprouts gives the single bananas to kids. It’s not advertised but every time we are there the produce employee hands my kids one of the single bananas.
I used to live closer to Austin and would go to Sprouts all the time! I LOVE SPROUTS. I moved closer to the San Antonio area and thought there wasn’t one close to me...BUT I JUST DISCOVERED THAT THERE IS ONE LESS THAN 10 MILES AWAY FROM ME. WUT. I’m so stoked!!! Sprouts makes grocery shopping so much more fun (in my opinion)
For the omnivore's, the Sprouts in Greeley Colorado will let you use your own containers for meat & fish from the butcher counter. We have two different local dairies that sell milk in reusable containers (1 glass & 1 plastic). After drinking your milk, you rinse the container & return it to Sprouts. There is a deposit for each bottle that Sprouts gives back to you when you check out.
I fell in love with Sprouts the first time I went there, I would literally shop there all the time but they are so far away. If it wasn't a 30min drive I would do, my town needs better grocery shops.
Denisse Lozano we have a ton of stores but I have no less than 8 grocery stores within about 10 minutes (5-7 miles MAX) from my house. Sprouts is probably about 25 minutes away (about midway from my house to the other end of town) & about a million (ok maybe more like 10-15 but still!!!) stoplights. I rarely go that far. Yes, apparently I’m very spoiled as a SAHM/W 🤣
If anyone lives in the Midwest or Pennsylvania, check out Fresh Thyme Farmers Market. The CEO used to work with Sprouts, but separated to create a new grocery store. I work at one, and it's amazing
Sprout's is my favorite! If something has a bad spot, say a mandarin orange, they break the bag open and give the good ones out as samples. They run amazing sales. They pay their people halfway decent (I said halfway, still corporate grocery so you know...) They donate what they can. If they get frozen "mispicks" like ice cream they don't sell or that has broken packaging they put it in the employee break room. They have their waste problems too, but all in all, I love this store!
If anyone is interested in sustainable gluten-free pasta, Jovial is a great brand for boxed pasta. They are in cardboard boxes and the windows are certified home compostable wood pulp.
One more reason to shop at Sprouts v. Whole Foods, Whole Foods just cut off health insurance for over 1,000 employees. This was also exciting to see how Sprouts is stepping up!
Duuuuude! We moved from LA to Philly last year and were way too excited when we found out Philly was getting the FIRST east coast Sprouts because it was our mainstay back in CA. They also let you use your own containers at the deli, butcher, & bakery counter.
Totally off-topic but I was able to reduce the impact of my wedding thanks to concepts in your videos thought I would share. Most wedding decorations/activities were able to find a home and use in our home after the big day. My wife and I thank you for doing what you do and encourage others to make life changes!!!!
YAY! Sprouts is the only low waste store in my area, and so I wind up shopping there a lot.. It's very validating hearing someone else who's a bit more seasoned in the zero waste community be so impressed!!
I live in a very small town and sprouts is the closest thing near me that has any alternative options to mainstream grocery stores. I am soooo thankful I found it! I’ve also discovered winco has a huge bulk section and their fruits and veggies are always super cheap. They even have bulk peanut and almond butter machines to make your own butters!
Huh! I do shake the water off my produce but not because of the weight - because the water just gets on my nerves when I'm holding it and carrying it around. Don't wanna get it everywhere hahaha
I’m new to your channel & subscribed. Love the concept of no food waste. I’m all about saving money... especially on groceries. I’ve never heard of Sprouts.
Glad to see you do the sprouts shopping. I’ve been shopping there for a little over a year and love that they have such a good selection of non packaged items. And I love when there app gives 25% off bulk so I can stock up.
Bulk spices at Sprouts is amazing!! I was gifted large loose leaf tea bags from my mom. Since I use a filter for my tea, I’ll never go through those bags, but they work perfect for bulk spices!
Thanks for the Sprouts video! What is Tibby's low-waste kitty litter routine? Do you have a preferred litter? Do you dispose the solids into paper bags for landfill, or how do you dispose?
Kind of late but, not sure if it's just my local sprouts. When I moved close to a sprouts I went shopping I was able to get a cashier to tear my jars and when I checked out the cashier and manager made me dump all my bulk food into plastic bags because they said they dont actually allow you to bring your own jar.... not sure if this was an isolated incident but a heads up so people dont have to put EVERYTHING in plastic.
For spices, i use Kootsacs from Etsy. They are nylon (Yes i know its plastic but I LOVE THEM) and they can hold flour and all those small powder stuff with no problem. Also its very light so you dont have to pay extra for tare incase you go to stores like Winco where they dont tare.
Watching you grocery shop is really refreshing because here in the philippines, it’s highly encouraged for people to buy in small packets which incurs so much waste !!!! :(
YEA!!! I’m so glad you visited Sprouts! It’s become my primary grocery store. You mentioned some really great tips in the video, as well! Thank you! ❤️❤️❤️
I loooove Sprouts. They are super affordable and they always have great selections. If you drink regular milk, they have an option in glass jars (both white milk and chocolate) that you return to the store. Seriously, you can’t beat them.
Did anyone else’s mind get blown with finding out the cilantro/coriander thing??? 🙃. I live in Indiana and Sprouts is called Fresh Thyme here and they’re where I got my first bamboo toothbrush 💛
Love sprouts and their app has coupons. They also change over sales on wednesdays for the week and the 2 weeks overlap so you get the previous weeks sales and the new weeks sales if you shop on Wednesday.
LOL! The music when you panned to bulk 😂. We’ve been shopping at sprouts since I was a kid- in my area though it was called boneys for a while and before that Henry’s so I think my mom still calls it Henry’s sometimes
Sprouts has been my main place to shop for thr last 2 years or so since I started shopping zero waste 🙂 I was shopping at Trader Joe's before, but when I committed to stop buying plastic, I researched the most affordable stores with the best bulk sections, and Sprouts came out to be best best balance of that. There is also a place called Lazy Acres, and Whole Foods of course, but Sprouts has almost everything that they have in their bulk section as well, but Sprouts is much cheaper than those two. I also have done Winco, but they have a weird germaphobic policy where they dont do tare weights because you're not technically allowed to use your own containers. My reusable produce bags are ultra light, so that's fine for anything that can go in a bag, but a lot of my staples have to go in jars (nutritional yeast, oats, spices), so I cant get any of those at Winco. I'm not sure if I missed it, have you done one of these videos for winco yet?
@@laqwannafranklin-caines4273 the entire point is to avoid using the plastic bags they have there and buy the items without packaging.. if I were okay with buying plastic bags and throwing them away, I wouldn't bother with jars at all
I LOVE Sprouts! So glad you found out about them. Love the buy one get one free and the 25% off peiodically in the health and beauty department, on top of the normal 10% off if you buy more than $100, so you get 25% plus 10% if you wait til that special time.
Sprouts is my FAVORITE zero waste store! I've brought everything zero waste here from dried herbs, dry mixed beans, trail mix, granola, lots of fruits and veggies, butchers counter items, chocolate snacks, sunflower seeds, it's the best! They will tare your own containers for you and I've purchased several of their bulk bags too! And they always have package free brussel sprouts, which makes me think of you every time I see them.
Sprouts is my jam and I say this even though I have a HEB Central Market, Whole Foods and Trader Joes near me. Sprouts is my Favorite place for produce and bulk. Love their chili mango!!! As for affordability, shop the sales and meal plan around that.
You made it to Sprouts!! Yay! Sadly I was told be a couple Sprouts employees that they stopped doing tare weight recently. One cashier said it was after they came out with their own bulk bags.
I do the exact same thing! I get my imperfect produce box every week and then I run by Sprouts for whatever else I need. If you shop the sales they are actually cheaper than the regular grocery stores here too. Love them so much!
I started to put my groceries in two reusable bags that way I only buy what I can carry and it helps me over spending and refusing my food waste when I buy too much at one time
OMG Shelbi!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I didn't know Sprouts was a thing and I thought I only had access to Earth Fare and Whole Foods, but I actually have a Sprouts really close to me I didn't know about! Thank you so so much!
When I lived in Austin, the HEB down the street from my apartment was nicknamed the Huge Enormous Building. I eventually learned they were named after their founder, Herbert Ephram Butts..but for me they will always be Huge Enormous Buildings.
I just moved to the south and I'm begging for fall weather to finally get here... I'm so sick of the heat. By the way, I just learned aluminum food cans are usually lined with plastic (especially when they contain tomatoes or soda), even if they're BPA free, because they corrode easily. Look up 'soda can hidden liner'. Steel cans usually don't have a lining, though.
Sprouts is my go-to store, they donate all the food they can't sell to local food pantries or compost it if it's unfit for consumption, so they're as close to a zero waste grocery store as I can find in South Carolina. I love that business practice so I rarely go anywhere else. . . . except Lidl for bread and cookies
I was wondering if there was a spouts next to you when I started watching this series. They’re the best! Definitely a cross between Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s with reasonable prices and way better produce. And the bulk options are amazing. I’m glad it’ll be a new regular store for you!
Me being nosy trying to figure out if you went to the 281/bulverde or i10/Callghan location. Glad to see the reusable produce bags, about a year ago they had refused to tare so glad things have improved. I will have to try again!!
omg I can’t, I live in the same city as you and I love your videos. You started to say something about sprouts and whole food close then you said HEB and heb is in Texas so I was thinking alright cool. Then you showed taht you live in San Antonio and now I’m just so happy. The pearl farmers market is so nice to shop at, I wanna try sprouts and we’ve seen in pop up many times but haven’t gone to it. I adore your videos and now I’m more happy that you live exactly where I am.
Sprouts (here at least) also takes bulk requests if you have things you are wanting. So might even be worth talking to them about getting bulk liquids :)
Heck yes Sprouts! We get all of our pantry staples there, they are so affordable and their bulk section is magic. Plus they have these bomb ass vegan taquitos in their freezer section...literally addictive. Not zero waste, they come in a cardboard box but are wrapped in plastic inside. But I still treat myself sometimes.
I know what you mean... love this coming season. I’m in Phoenix and still mid/high 90s... I’m hoping triple digits are gone till February but doubt it. I want my sweater weather... just be end December lol
Thiers a sprout in the city over for me will have to check them out sometime but might be more econically friendly for me to stick to the co-op I can walk to even if its more limited
Grocery stores in my state won't tare the weights. It's against food safety laws, for whatever reason. I get so jealous seeing your videos where you can do this. My go around is to fill one of their bags, put it in a jar when I get home, and just reuse the bag when I go.
I love sprouts!! They are pretty affordable as well. Also I’m a Bay Area California girl and it’s been 85-90.. Please come get your heat. We’re dying here!
Yay! Love Sprouts! Also I live in California too, but it’s currently 42° outside... so no sweater weather for me either... we skipped to jacket weather. 😐
I try to avoid cans though, because the acidity, especially in things like tomatoes will actually corrode the can on a level small enough that you won't notice it, but you basically are eating a small amount of corroded aluminum with it. I've also heard (but don't take my word for this) that canned tomatoes are considered a carcinogen now, so that's just another reason I avoid them.
I love Sprouts! I would put their prices somewhere between Kroger and Publix. They're on par with Lucky's if you've ever been there (a Florida based grocery store, but they're expanding). ETA: I've had issues getting Sprouts employees to tare my own jars/containers. I think it depends on the area how familiar they are with it. It's definitely company policy to let you use your own jars (I've asked through their website), so you may get turned away once but speak to a manager or be persistent.
I am currently downsizing everything in my life and your video helped me feel better about my decision to go waste-free as possible. There is literally a sprouts 5 mins from me !
I just discovered your channel and I love it! I try to go to sprouts for fruit because I noticed it’s always on sale and bought their reusable produce bags and take them everywhere with me. I’m not sure if you’ve done a video at H-E-B, but I’d love to see one!
I’m sooo excited that you went to Sprouts! I wouldn’t have been able to afford low waste if I hadn’t started shopping at Sprouts! Love this store, the accessibility of it, and honestly the people who work there are literally the nicest grocery store employees I’ve ever met!
I agree about the Employees 🥰
Seeing groceries constantly wrapped in plastic makes me so sad 😭 it’s amazing that there are places out there that are lower waste!

Sprouts also has a good toiletries section with all natural ingredient deodorants, bar shampoos, and natural laundry pods as well!
Our Sprouts gives the single bananas to kids. It’s not advertised but every time we are there the produce employee hands my kids one of the single bananas.
V Grollitsch that’s nice! I’m glad
Kroger does that too!
I don't believe that I have seen either store. I do believe that Dillons sells Kroger brand foods though.

Sprouts is my go-to! They also have a lot of amazing vegan food that’s hard to find like salad dressings, pesto, mock meats, etc.
One more reason to shop at Sprouts v. Whole Foods, Whole Foods just cut off health insurance for over 1,000 employees. This was also exciting to see how Sprouts is stepping up!

I feel the fall in Texas on a very real level. I have lived just north of San Anotnio my whole life. Its summer till the two weeks of winter. Lol.
I'm with you on that whole missing sweater weather season, it sucks living in a hot state

Just started watching your videos I love how you explain everything. Giving Sprouts a try.
I worked at Sprouts for a summer and it changed my life. So glad you’re waking up to it!
Im hit Sprouts twice a week. The are so cool about weighing my jars and they deduct the weight of my produce bags too.
Yaaaa Sprouts is amazing for bulk! They even have snacks and candy!
Sprouts is great! My family has been shopping there since I was a kid. Their bulk section is amazing, glad you checked it out. 🧡
I absolutely love Sprouts! That is where I zero waste shop. My sprouts also sells bulk jars and bulk bags so people know they can bring both!

Sprouts is really where its at!!!!!
SPROOOOUTS! They're my favorite since moving to Utah. The "honeycomb" candy is sooo good and bulk binned!
I get that one!!
Love sprouts and their app has coupons. They also change over sales on wednesdays for the week and the 2 weeks overlap so you get the previous weeks sales and the new weeks sales if you shop on Wednesday.
OMG! I suggested this on your last grocery shop video, I am glad you finally did it. Sprouts is my favorite grocery shop 🤗
LOL! The music when you panned to bulk 😂. We’ve been shopping at sprouts since I was a kid- in my area though it was called boneys for a while and before that Henry’s so I think my mom still calls it Henry’s sometimes

I miss living near a sprouts. It was my favorite grocery store when I lived in Texas.
Can't wait to go to sprouts. Finally one is opening here in northern va.!!!
Try doing Love's gas station? It's a pretty popular truck stop that could be challenging

STOKED! A Sprouts just opened up near my house just this week and I was like, lemme watch what Shelby has to say about them before I even walk in.

Grocery stores in my state won't tare the weights. It's against food safety laws, for whatever reason. I get so jealous seeing your videos where you can do this. My go around is to fill one of their bags, put it in a jar when I get home, and just reuse the bag when I go.
Where did you get your measuring cups??? They are stunning 😍
you would have to go to Michigan but i recommend you do Horrocks!!
70! LA maybe. Here in the valley in California it still hits 90 and it sucks cuz I want the fall to feel like fall
I go to sprouts to get most of my bulk items and a lot of my produce. Then Wheatsville and HEB.
I love Sprouts!! It’s so easy to shop zero waste there!
Sooo going to sprouts more now!!
Sprouts is the most underrated zero-waste grocery store in Ca! I have loved and shopped at Sprouts before the made the switch from Henry's!!!
I am currently downsizing everything in my life and your video helped me feel better about my decision to go waste-free as possible. There is literally a sprouts 5 mins from me !
I feel that. I'm so ready for fall but it's been in the 90s every day in Denton
I love Sprouts. I have one really close to where I live so I ride my bike there when the weather is nice.
I just discovered your channel and I love it! I try to go to sprouts for fruit because I noticed it’s always on sale and bought their reusable produce bags and take them everywhere with me. I’m not sure if you’ve done a video at H-E-B, but I’d love to see one!
