For anyone that wants to make the body LARGER without making the arms huge : after you get the arm width you want.. on each hexagon before you seam up the arms you can still crochet down the front, around the bottom and up the back as many times as you want. When you have the desired body size(minus 1 row in the joining area), join the back just how she did. Then you can join the arms (leaving your desired neck space), finish the arms and cuffs, and add more length to the bottom if you want. Hope that helps anyone wanting to know!
I'm at this point on mine and I don't really understand how I could crochet the body larger, because if I'm understanding correctly, I'd need to only crochet 3 sides but I'd have to turn at some point and I have no idea how to do that with the granny crochet pattern.
@@lanamello7445 I’m size 3x in tops so for me to make the body larger when she did 3 rows at 29:54, I did 10 rows on each side instead. 10 on one, then 9 on the other with the 1 row for attaching them. I might even add rows to the front side as well as this pattern is definitely not intended for plus size people (not hating, just saying). You can make it longer by adding rows along the bottom as well. Hope that helps!!

Your tutorial for the hexigon cardigan is fantastic! I am 63 years old and have been crocheting since i was 11 and you have taught me a lot with this one. Keep doing tutorials. You are bringing a dying art back to life. Thank you!
I was wearing my hexagon granny stitch cardigan at Costo today that i watched this video to learn how to make. It's very colorful -wirh 6 different colors of yarn. I got two compliments on it while at the self-checkout from people who work there. One of them said, "I love your Hexagon cardigan!" And then she says, "PassionKnit Kelsie?"... I said, Yep! I learned this pattern from her! ... ...This was 2/26/2024... in Tigard, OR (a suburb near Portland, OR). Kelsie, I watch your videos all the time while I'm crocheting. I'm 62 years old 😂... and have a 26 year old daughter, myself. I'm so happy for you and your success. Your tutorials are awesome!!
For any plus size folks!!! I am a 3x and added 10 rows for each side on the back and 5 to the front sides as well for extra coverage. That allowed me to have the arms fit semi-tightly and add more to the body. Hope this helps!!
How did you add rows to the front? I’m normally a XL or 2Xl depending on how oversized I want and I can’t for the life of me figure out how to add length without adding more to the sleeves!
Hello. Could you tell us about how many skeins of yard (or how many grams of yarn) you used for your project? (She does not say in the video only that you will need "some yard" and I can't see where she's answered anyone's question about how much yard she used or what size she made hers. If you could say how much yard you used, that would at least give us some idea of how much yard to buy for this project. Thanks for your reply.
@@Bayouma777 Just seeing this now! So so sorry…. I don’t know if you still need to know but I used about 1.5-2 skeins of each of the 4 colors that I used. I used more white because I used that to connect the back and the cuffs.
I've been crocheting for 35+ years and have never seen the way you start your new row cluster in the corner like that and I am now making a granny square dishcloth just so I can use that technique. I love it! I usually slipstitch to the next space to start my cluster but I feel like it makes a little extra bulk. Your technique eliminates that bulk. Thank you for sharing this project and your techniques.
As someone that doesn’t know how to crochet and has no idea what you’re talking about, this is insane lol. Anyone that can crochet and make something out of nothing is an absolute magician
It’s an easy skill to learn and quickly becomes instinctive. My mom taught me how to knit and crochet when I was about 10. I’m now 58 and very grateful for all she taught me. You can learn at any age though and there are so many tutorials here on TH-cam to learn the basic stitches and techniques.
Once u learn the basic stitches, u can make anything. I taught my sons friend how to crochet. He actually was so proud of himself he sat there laughing n giggling. He watched me doing it every time he came over!
I’m 34 years old, have held the crochet hook for the 1st time, saw some beautiful self colouring yarn in Turkey and bought in anyways, I was thinking maybe in a few years I will learn crochet to make my own cardigan, u make it look so simple in ur video, the way u explain every step, ur way of explaining is so clear and calm,it gave me the courage to start my own granny hexagon cardigan, and 5 days later, Iv made my own cardigan, it’s unreal feeling soo accomplished, thanks a lot to you, wishing u success in all that u do ❤
I'm 31 and have been crocheting on and off since I was about 10, and I've never tried to make wearables except scarves and hats because it always seemed so daunting. THIS tutorial is the BEST and I'm so grateful!! You explain everything so clearly and simply and I'm almost done with my first cardigan and I feel so much more confident and inspired to make more! Thank you!!! ❤️❤️❤️
Same! 31, learned knitting first, so I crochet "wrong" in form. I've gotten so far in progress in just a few hours tonight while mindlessly watching tv.
I’ve seen sooo many crochet tutorials, and no disrespect to anyone who graciously takes the time and effort to put them together, but this is the best one I’ve seen since I started in 2001. I’m on my 2nd sweater for my 15yr old in a week. We both follow you on Tiktok and we love your creations! One of the big yarn companies needs to sign you for a collaboration RIGHT 🤬 NOW.
For those who are asking how much yarn she used…I looked up hobbi horizon light worsted dk, each cake or skein is 601 yards….I think she used 2…at least 1200-1400 would be my guess. Hope this helps those who, like me, could not find her answer anywhere.
Hey, actually I've made this cardigan with the same yarn, and I'm pretty sure she had to use 3 especially for the length. I'm a size M and I needed more than just two to get the arm length (I have wide shoulders and long arms). I ordered two and tried it but didn't even get to stitching them together because I couldn't finish the cuff for the second half
Thank you for this I have some mandala yarn that’s 590 yds per skein and I only have 3 and a 1/4 of those skeins left and I was trying to figure out if I could make a cardigan/sweater with what I have left without having to buy another skein. So thanks a bunch I should have just enough.
im 14 yrs old and i taught myself to crochet in lockdown .i rarely finish large projects but im thorougly enjoying this one.and it helps that the tutorial is so clear .
I just made this! For anyone who really loves when cuffs and borders match, I did a back-loop-only border all around in the same size hook as the rest of the sweater (7 stitches up to the collar, then decreased down to 4). I really like it, and it made it sooo easy to add horizontal buttonholes - I'll be making the buttons with shrinky dinks. Also, I made some heart shaped granny squares to attach as pockets. Super cute, really easy to follow, and my first cardigan!
Hi Kelsie, it is so amazing seeing you young crocheters continuing in the craft from us old folks. You are so inspiring and thank you for teaching this old dog new tricks. Take care.
Hello to everyone looking for the amount of yarn you‘ll need I used the same yarn, same hook size, same amount of rows. For the full length cardigan she definitely used 3 cakes. You‘ll need a little less than 1 cake for each side (up to the joining of the two pieces). There is a little yarn left which should be enough for a small border. If you don’t want a cropped cardigan, you’ll need a third cake though to add the length. Enjoy everybody, and order enough yarn 😅 I only got 2 cakes and now I‘ll have to wait for my color to come back into stock in order to finish 🙈 on the plus side, I‘ll have enough yarn to add a hood 😊
I made a silly decision ans decided to change colours every two rows so now I'm dealing with all these ends but I think it was worth it. This is a brilliant tutorial, I loved it and it's a very fast project also!!!
I just finished my first ever big crochet project....thank you so much for the easy detailed video..just watching this gave me motivation to go ahead and start the project... I wasn't sure, if I'd be able to finish it.. but thank God... I just completed it. Thank you so much Kelsie for this video... seriously can't thank you enough. 😊
I am so thankful for this tutorial! I am a huge visual learner and still struggle to read patterns as a newbie. Can't thank you enough for this! I'm excited to make my first cardigan~
I'm 11 and I love making these cardigans!! Made a few mistakes on my first one (didn't realise how much yarn I needed) and Im making another by learning from my mistakes. Thank you so much I am ever so grateful for your tutorial - even my mum wants one!!
@@n0valy732so I buy aran yarn from The Wool Warehouse. It takes about 5 yarns to do the cardigan without adding length. If you want to add length, it would need 1 or 2 more yarn, depending how much longer you would like it. Bear in mind that these measurements are based off of my own body (I have an average body for an 11 year old). Hope that helps!
As someone who has been crocheting since she was 9, I love seeing all of these young crocheters in the comments! I’m 21, and so glad other young people are seeing this craft as an art form and wanting to keep it alive❤
I was meant to be dyeing my hair but then I saw this tutorial and now I’m going to the craft shop 😂 I love your tutorials they’re really great to follow and it’s really reignited my love of crochet!
I've been crochet for over 10 yrs now and never do big projects because I get to overwhelmed. I'm on my second cardigan with a hood and have enjoyed these so much I want to keep making more! (My poor closet, I'm going to have to start giving them away). I also just taught a friend of mine to crochet a couple of months ago and this was literally her first project! She loved how easy it was to follow along and gave her the confidence to make more wearable and learn to read patterns so she can shop on Ravelry. Thank you so much for your content. I know life gets hard sometimes but you truly are making a difference in people's lives.
I would love for you to write a pattern for this. I would buy it instantly! I’ve been crocheting for 15 years and have never had the courage to make any type of clothing. I’m excited to work on this with your tutorial. Thank you for taking the time to do this for us all.
My daughter found your cardigan on Tic Tok and asked if I could make it for her. I haven't made a wearable aside from hats before but she asked and I had to try. I finished sewing in the ends this morning and can't wait to give it to her. Your tutorial was so easy to follow and helped me feel more confident while making it. Thank you!
I just finished making this and it literally feels like wearing a blanket, its so cute and the directions are so easy to follow! Cant wait to see what other stuff you end up making
@@hippiepisces9745 I made a cropped cardigan with border and it took about 17 hours roughly, I just started to make a second one I’m planning on making longer
@@thrishathiyadiki672 Im not sure on grams but it took just under 700 grams, over 1000m of yarn. I used 2 skeins of the caron jumbo ombre for the cropped cardigan with cuffs and then made a second one that was about 5 inches longer without cuff and that took 1 skein of pound of love exactly.
I made my very first wearable (not including hats & scarves) using this tutorial! I used Bernat Blanket yarn and the cardigan turned out AWESOME! I made it for my mom for her birthday - she goes monthly for cancer treatments and she is always cold. Using that yarn makes it feel like you're bundled up in your most favorite blanket! Thank you so much for this tutorial!!!! I'm now making one for myself (I'm using "I love this yarn" in 'sea muse') Love your channel!
I saw someone wearing one of these and I fell in love with it. She said I made her day. She did a great job. She said it was easy and told me where to find the instructions so I will be making one, maybe more for gifts.
I started working on this over the weekend and I'm loving it! For anyone who thinks they can't do this, trust me when I tell you that you can! Don't get discouraged if you make mistakes...I've been crocheting for decades and when I first got started on this I only did five sides instead of six and didn't realize it until I went to join the shoulder seam! LOL When I made the second sleeve piece I went to join that one and was a row short on one side! Talk about a comedy of errors..I just laughed and frogged back to my mistake and fixed it. So give this a go! You won't be sorry...it's cute and cozy and pretty easy to make. Thank you for this video Kelsie! I'm off to add a hood. You should add a link to that video on this one. :)
I just finished this and I was doing it for over a month. I'm so glad that I completed it without leaving it unfinished. And it looks so cute. Thanks to you, the instructions are so clear. I'm lookin forward to your other videos.
I used the giant spool of mandala brand yarn from Joann. It's 3 weight as well but I used a 6 mm for the hexagons, a 4 for the cuffs, and a 5 for the border. I still have some left over and it's a 1,181 yard skein. Give it a try! I didn't think I could do something like this a year ago, but here I am with my first clothing item!
I just finished making this with all different types of blue hues, and it looks absolutely beautiful! The way you explained everything was super easy to follow, and you covered all of the parts where I thought I would be confused. Thank you so much for creating this tutorial…this is now my favorite cardigan/thing I’ve ever crocheted ❤😂
Hi!! When you do the stitches for the sleeve extension, does your starting cluster stay in the same place? With each row my starting place shifts diagonally , not sure if I'm doing something wrong or not
this is my second time making this cardigan and i forgot how satisfying it is to make the cuffs… they fit around my wrist so perfectly 😭 thank you kelsie!!
I’m only 13 I’ve been crocheting since I was 8. I loved this tutorial!! I recommend it 100%! I’m going to a cabin with all 8 of my siblings and I made a short sleeved one of these for the summer!! Thank you for this tutorial!

Love this pattern. I used it to make 3 sweaters for myself and my family, then made a newborn one for my niece, on the way, by just stopping early in the project! So versatile. Thanks for sharing ❤
The best tutorial ever. It’s so easy to adjust without messing up the whole thing. I used it to make my daughter a cardigan with thicker yarn and it turned out perfect!

Great Video!!! Best I've ever worked with!!! I would love to have a written version of the pattern for the future. I have made 6 of this cardigan for myself and for gifts. I receive complements EVERY time I wear mine. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
I'm just going to comment here on the request for the written pattern, but only because I've been hooking a while, and I've written a few patterns from videos but only for myself. Let me tell you, it's very time consuming, and difficult. You have to get every little detail right, or the pattern won't come out right if you're trying to read it 6 mos or a yr later, when you're stuck somewhere without internet service. Ask me how I know. And that's w/me having a pretty good eidetic memory, so even if I don't have a perfect written pattern, I can still remember the parts I've left out, or got wrong. Not the best thing if you're writing it for someone else. Even if she were to offer it for free, ppl would still expect to have a well-written pattern, don't you think? I know I would. In fact, I know from experience that most parm writers will have any of theirs tried out by no less than 3 ppl, but preferably by 6! And they'll critique it honestly because they'll get to keep the pattern, and if it's got mistakes, what good is it? So, a video of a pattern is difficult enough. A pattern is a whole other kettle of fish! ❤
I feel like getting the multicoloured yarns to come out with an actual pattern that looks nice is such an elusive skill! Thanks for posting. I rely on videos, patterns are basically gobbeldegook to me
I have never understood this method of joining Granny squares until I watched this video. Thank you so much. I have a granny square project that I have been putting off for years because I didn’t understand this technique. Now I can attempt it. ❤
I just finished my cardigan + hoodie in 6 days! I used a 4-ply yarn + 6.5mm hook. I'm absolutely in loce with this pattern and will definitely make it more often. Thank you so much, Kelsie!

I tagged you in a Facebook thing a while back and I don’t know if you saw it but I just want you to know you are hands down my favorite TH-camr!!! I’m 30 and I have crocheted since I was 6 years old. I grew up with kids at school making fun of me and calling me names like “old lady” and a few other things because I loved to crochet. I would do it at recess and when I got to middle school and high school I would crochet during class. My teachers were usually cool with it because I got my assignments done and participated in class (usually more than other students) while crocheting. You are my hero because you’ve helped to make crochet something for everyone and not just a thing for old ladies to do. You’ve made it cool! So thank you for being sooooooo great and having great tutorials!!!!!!
Also I had a thought and I’m going to try it because I’m currently working on one of these cardigans, but when you do your rows that aren’t rounds that start with just one double crochet would it be more stable to do the stacked single crochet?
The hexagon is supposed to be wavy, it will not lay flat until you fold it into the arm shape.

That last line is exactly my thought.
Lol I feel like a useless human sometimes but at least I have this. Thanks 😂
This is the highest compliment any crochet artist could receive, I cant wait to finish mine!!
I agree
For those who are asking how much yarn she used…I looked up hobbi horizon light worsted dk, each cake or skein is 601 yards….I think she used 2…at least 1200-1400 would be my guess. Hope this helps those who, like me, could not find her answer anywhere.
Thank you. That was my first question.
Yes, thank you. This is the reason i was scrolling though the comments
I did it with the same yarn too and I needed 3 and a half skeins while keeping it croped. I usually wear L size and my arms are quite long.
Well done, I bet your Mum is proud of you..👏 🙂 I didn't learn until I was 30yrs old.
@@helenreidt3315 my mums proud but she going mad at me having yarn laying round everywhere
Well done, keep going!😁
I learnt when I was 10 and it has given me so much pleasure and relaxation for the last 30 years.😁
Learning now at 20 years old for me! I learned how to knit only a little during the beginning of lockdown, so crochet is totally foreign to me.
Finally, someone uses the join as you go seaming method for arm sleeves and explains it perfectly! Thank you!!
Hi Kelsie, it is so amazing seeing you young crocheters continuing in the craft from us old folks. You are so inspiring and thank you for teaching this old dog new tricks. Take care.
I am 11 and this was my first crochet garment. OBSESSED!!!
Congrats!!! I’m thirteen and almost done 😁
Edit- I finished and it’s amazing!!!
I've been crocheting for 50-51 yrs now. Your designs are really nice, you're a great instructor so easy to follow! Thank you for all shares! ❤❤❤
Hello to everyone looking for the amount of yarn you‘ll need
I used the same yarn, same hook size, same amount of rows.
What size cakes? How many yards?
@@StageSitterin the video she used 200g weight 3 yarn
the commenter said they used the same
I made a silly decision ans decided to change colours every two rows so now I'm dealing with all these ends but I think it was worth it. This is a brilliant tutorial, I loved it and it's a very fast project also!!!
Look up a magic knot. No more ends.
Get mandala yarn then it changes without the fuss of manual colour change 😊
I just finished my first ever big crochet project....thank you so much for the easy detailed video..just watching this gave me motivation to go ahead and start the project... I wasn't sure, if I'd be able to finish it.. but thank God... I just completed it.
Thank you so much Kelsie for this video... seriously can't thank you enough. 😊
Because I’m a left-handed crocheter, I often find tutorial videos challenging - thank you for making this one delightful and easy to follow!
Maybe something you could try is mirroring the video? My mom used that for tutorials she wants to follow
@Its.sophia it's so fun you should try making a top too!
@@HereForCrochet98 thank you!! I'm making a patchwork cardigan as I'm writing this🤣
Hi kamadothetangyro I wanna ask you how much yarn have you used? I wanna make one but I dont know how much yarn I will need.
How many grams of yarn did you use?
this is genuinely one of the best crochet tutorials i’ve ever seen…i cant wait to try this
As someone who has been crocheting since she was 9, I love seeing all of these young crocheters in the comments! I’m 21, and so glad other young people are seeing this craft as an art form and wanting to keep it alive❤
This comment made me smile so much. I'm almost 2 decades older than you and had the exact same thought.
I was meant to be dyeing my hair but then I saw this tutorial and now I’m going to the craft shop 😂
I love your tutorials they’re really great to follow and it’s really reignited my love of crochet!
How long did it take you
@@hippiepisces9745 I made a cropped cardigan with border and it took about 17 hours roughly, I just started to make a second one I’m planning on making longer
@@WhereamI5 How many grams of yarn did you use?
@@thrishathiyadiki672 Im not sure on grams but it took just under 700 grams, over 1000m of yarn. I used 2 skeins of the caron jumbo ombre for the cropped cardigan with cuffs and then made a second one that was about 5 inches longer without cuff and that took 1 skein of pound of love exactly.
Can you show us how to add a hoodie too please ty
I made my very first wearable (not including hats & scarves) using this tutorial! I used Bernat Blanket yarn and the cardigan turned out AWESOME! I made it for my mom for her birthday - she goes monthly for cancer treatments and she is always cold. Using that yarn makes it feel like you're bundled up in your most favorite blanket! Thank you so much for this tutorial!!!! I'm now making one for myself (I'm using "I love this yarn" in 'sea muse') Love your channel!
Such a lovely thoughtful gift. I hope your mom has a smooth recovery ❤️
This is the first one of my crochet projects that has actually turned out exactly as I wanted it. Thank you so much.
I love everything about this! All crochet, no sewing/seaming, etc. So easy and comfy. Great tutorial!
I’ve made three sweaters in the past couple months from this tutorial and I absolutely love this formula!!
This was the most comprehensive hexi-cardigan tutorial I've seen so far, thank you!
I’m only 13 I’ve been crocheting since I was 8. I loved this tutorial!! I recommend it 100%! I’m going to a cabin with all 8 of my siblings and I made a short sleeved one of these for the summer!! Thank you for this tutorial!
I'm *finally* attempting to make my first cardigan after crocheting for 20+ years. The way you do your videos makes me *actually* understand/see what is going on! Love your videos. (And your work! Seriously, Everytime I see one of videos I'm like, crochet GOALS!)
A lady posted hers on FB the cropped cardigan and it turned out super, loved it and she said she followed your tutorial!!! Love these colours as well!!!
I love this pattern so much for having no sewing components. You are doing gods work with this pattern tysmmmm
I have just finished making my adapted version (I made a hood by sewing 2 granny squares together) and a baby version, thank you for making this soo easy to follow ❤️
How/where did you join the hood? I'd love to add a hood to mine! 😊
Just finished my cardigan - this was an amazing project that was deeply fun to work on and the tutorial is so well made. Everyone loves the sleeves especially! And I got to learn a lot. Thank you so so much for this, I can't express how happy I am I found it!
Thanks to your easy to follow instructions, I am making this cardigan, it will be my first wearable after 50+ years of crocheting mostly doilies. Thank you so much for this video.
U r explaining every detail and it seems easier thanks to u. I bought my yarn and waiting for the shipping. I'm lookin' forward to start soon. Thanks alot. U encouraged me to make it. Thnx for sharing. Take care. 🥰💓👏

Im 8 and i started crocheting about a year ago. Im now making this cardigan and it is turning out soooo pretty! I am working on the rows that you add on the back to add space for your neck. Everything you did was so easy to understand. Thank you so much for this tutorial!
I've got 4 pieces, 2 cardigans, on the go. I think everyone is getting one of these for Xmas. I think they'd look nice on kids too. Great tutorial thank you 😊

I love the way you did the arm joining. Much better than simply slip-stitching across. Thank-you!
i will say I had to add a couple extra strips in the back cuz I am a bit of a bigger gal, but this was amazing, I;m not quite finished yet. still have to add length to the bottom, but loving this so far!! super easy to follow!!

Eeeek! Just finished making this!! Perfect time off project- I finished in a few days. It literally feels like a blanket but with a little ventilation, perfect for spring! First wearable, so excited!!
I just finished this and omg, i am IN LOVE. I will say that I had a minor meltdown trying to figure out the middle back since I didnt realize the second half was done in reverse. Roughly how many yards did you end up using? Love the pattern, about to make my second one!
I watch this and follow your instructions but i have never made granny’s square before so I did it wrong. I watched it couple more times and then it’s finally click. I got it now. definitely will tag you when I complete it. Thank you so much for your tutorial. It’s so easy to do
I tagged you in a Facebook thing a while back and I don’t know if you saw it but I just want you to know you are hands down my favorite TH-camr!!!
