  • If you are a plus or mid size girlie like me, this video has all the modifications I made to a hexagon cardi to adapt it to fit my plus size frame. I love it, and I'm excited to show you how i modified this hexagon cardigan.

    When I make hexicardis, i only make the original hexigans wide enough to fit my arms. For the rest, I add to the back and to the length.

    • @ShannonTalksYarn
      @ShannonTalksYarn  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I hadn’t thought about that but I can see how that would totally work! Especially if the perfect sleeve size is a must. I love it, thank you for sharing, that’s a great tip! 😃

    • @weenbaby
      @weenbaby 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ShannonTalksYarn my first one I made a bit wide so I have huge bubble sleeves 🤣. I’m working on another where I’m making the sleeves about 7 inches flat. When I join it’ll make them about 8.
      There’s a hexicardi video where she makes one that is no sew and that’s the one I usually follow. You should check it out!
      The *only* problem with doing it that way is it kind of stops the hexagon pattern but it shouldn’t matter if you only use one colorway in yarn. I hope it makes sense.

      @weenbaby it does make sense and that wouldn’t bother me one bit lol! 😃

      I wish I read this before I started mine I of course started with one pattern then realized how huge the sleeves would be if I did it the way the pattern maker did on Etsy and then came for this to save it. I’m not going to trash it of course but I think it will be my house sweater for like being cozy on the sofa and make another with the same idea you had. I think that will be better!

    If you make a short, short one, you can sew onto the bottom edge a flowy camisole type fabric to add fluidity which is very flattering- sort of like wearing a longer camisole underneath. I like the thinner yarn version which TH-camr ‘Darya Crochetlife’ used with a 3mm crochet hook. And Brazilian ‘Ela Carol Costa’ used a 10mm crochet hook on her hot pinky red hexagon cardigan which is flowy too. But yours fits you nicely for a snuggly winter version- we need one of each 👍😊 The rest of the world uses mm’s as a Universal needle sizer so we can all understand each other 😊

    I am five foot two. The struggle is real with our clothes making us look even shorter. I am short waisted as well, so that presents some problems. I like the idea of a cropped cardigan.

      Im just about finished with a solid hexagon cardigan. Well that’s not true. I’ve got the 1 panels made. They aren’t sewn together so I haven’t lengthen the sleeves either lol! I’m not sure text which I like better: the granny or the solid. The granny definitely works up faster! I’d love to know what you decide on!

    Your cardi is beautiful - I like he balloon sleeves. I made my first hexi-cardi for an ugly Christmas sweater party (and used super saver too - it's quite bulky for my liking). For my next one I may use Lion Brand Heartland or We Crochet Swish. Thank you for sharing these tips.

    • @ShannonTalksYarn
      @ShannonTalksYarn  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you so much, and thanks for watching and commenting! I agree the RHSS makes a very stiff sweater. I’m so glad you made one tho, I think they’re fun. I don’t have an experience with Swish but I’ve heard it’s good yarn! I made a seat cushion from heartland and loved it. My friend Kristen Crochets made a sweater out of the heartland colorway that is grey with multi colored tweed and she said it pilled really quickly. But my cushion is great so maybe it’s the colorway 🤷🏻‍♀️
      Let me know if you add some balloon sleeves to your next sweater! Happy Crocheting 🧶

    I'm looking to make a fairly large cardigan (probably 3X size) and I'm super new to crochet. in the back when adding shoulder length before sowing I see mostly adding 4 inches (roughly like 3 rows to each side) before sowing together, would it work to just add more rows in the back or would it make the sweater look wonky?
    I appreciate you're tips and will definitely be using them. :)

    • @ShannonTalksYarn
      @ShannonTalksYarn  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I think it all kind of depends on the yarn and the look you’re going for. I made one that was brown with blue trim and the back rows were very noticeable but I thought it worked out nice. For the one in the video it was verigated yarn and I thought my back seam looked a little odd. I think if I would have used plain black to sew it together it wouldn’t have looked so odd!

  • @CaptainMikaylaa
    @CaptainMikaylaa 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    how many rows did you do? I don’t know where a good place to stop is

    • @ShannonTalksYarn
      @ShannonTalksYarn  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I believe on mine it was around 17. But if you measure your shoulder width that will tell you how many inches each panel should be (since 2 folded in half and sew together equals 1) so I think mine was around 20 inches. I like that way better than rows since yarns, hooks and tension can differ so much!

      No problem! It’s Herrschner’s Worsted 8 Halloween Sparkle Yarn. It’s some of their private label yarn. I actually think all of the Herrschner’s brand are good yarns! Not sure if you’ve ordered from them or not? If you haven’t, I would suggest signing up for their email because they send notifications when there is a shipping deal. Otherwise I’ve found the shipping kind of high ($12). But I’m also kind of cheap lol 😂 The website is herrschners.com

    How many rounds on the Hexagon cardigan for size plus 3x

    • @ShannonTalksYarn
      @ShannonTalksYarn  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It will definitely depend on your yarn, hook size and tension, but what I always do is crochet until the width of one panel is the same as my shoulder to shoulder width, since you will be making 2 panels and folding them in half. And if you want the cardigan longer length you can add extension rows on the bottom. Hopefully that makes sense!

    Where can i find the pattern i need one

    • @ShannonTalksYarn
      @ShannonTalksYarn  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hi Karen! I never really use a pattern for hexagon cardigans I just make each panel the width of my shoulders, that way it fits when hooded in half and sewn together. At that point I add extra length to sleeves so they fit and if you want extra length in the torso you add rows then.
      But a friend of mine has success with one from Craft and a Cuppa here on YT, and I believe The Snugglery has a good one too!
