Hi .. my name is Maria and I live in Italy. I hope you read this writing of mine. I bought my first Dendrophylax lindenii, I am not very experienced but I want to try it. I have watched and listened to your videos several times but I have a question: it is true that when you put a Dendrophylax lindenii on the cork support there is a side of the plant that must absolutely stay on the support side? the side is that of the growth of the roots that must be towards the support? I was told so .... and since in a couple of weeks I have to move them to the cork I would like to know all the precautions I need to have. Thank you for reading this message, thank you for your videos and your advice, explanations. Greetings… Maria

Hello Mary! First and foremost, thank you so much for watching! I have not heard that but it does make sense. I would strive to keep whatever part was “mount side down” in the same direction. They do grow from a central point and I feel like once “up” is established, it really wouldn’t want that to change. I know they are VERY long lived in the wild and do not like disturbances of any kind. Remounting is enough of a task/stress for them and I know it should be done with utmost care to preserve them and their precious roots. I have seen them grown many different ways but I believe if and when I ever get more (been dying to get my hands on a true lindenii) I will be mounting them on a cork round/branch instead of the flat. Mine wants to wanted off the narrow mount, which I’m sure is ok, but I’d much rather it’s roots stayed attached. Either way I believe they will grow off in time, as their root systems tend to be quite extensive once mature, but I do think they grow better and happier when attached rather than aerial.
I hope this message made it in time and helps!! Sorry for the delay, I have been working crazy hours and sometimes I get a week or 2 behind. Please feel free to reach out if you ever have any questions and also to share your progress and successes in the future! I always love to see if my tips help fellow growers! Stay safe and happy growing! 😊

Your ghosts are looking lovely!! I cannot wait to see that entire piece of cork bark covered in roots one day with little ghosts swaying in front of it! I think I am going to get a flask toward the fall when it cools down a bit and hopefully the postal system isn't such a gamble.

@@CloudforestVibesOrchidsMore It’s bad…. I watered too much and caused some root rot, now it’s downsized to half of it original size. I remounted it on an upside down clay pot with moss inside to let them absorb enough moist and get a better grip (get a grip!) on a more porous surface. Hope they can survive. If not, then, I’ll give up 😂

Nice ghosts! I got two a year ago, one was a goner after fertilization, and the one left is still ok. They need a lot of moisture to grow. My existing one is placed on top of my Phrag. bessae where it gets misted every evening. Once dried just a little bit the growing root tips get stunted. I am thinking to remount mine too, as long as I get a smooth-surface and unprocessed bark/ wood piece. I read somewhere that a successful grower stuck the plant on the wood mount with air plant glue. Anyway I am looking forward to your updates on growing these plants :)

I actually mounted mine with super glue gel. So far so good.🤷‍♀️😁

I have heard of others gluing them as well. Definitely an option if you don't want to see the line or string. They really are thirsty plants.... I mist then twice a day but if I could, I would have them get misted 4-5 times a day with an automatic system. So far so good.... I have been really careful about fert levels and making sure they are getting flushed more than they are getting fed. I also think the spanish moss is pretty favorable to them, as many would have it in their native habitats. This is my first year with them but I adore them and hope to collect a few more species once I can get the hang of these. Thanks for watching!

    Hey Mr Saucy man lol.
People don't realise advantages of using Spanish moss with mounts. Mine always flowers end of winter and early spring. And I always forget about it until there's this amazing fragrance in my greenhouse. I always spend some time checking my orchids until I realise it is my Spanish moss in bloom emitting this fragrance 🤦🏻‍♂️😅😅
Sound of your dog scratching made me chuckle for some reason. We have Chocolate Labrador and she spends half of day scratching herself 🥴🥴🥴

Milan Lysak lmao.... my dog is such a ham.... she sleeps and is lazy all day until I decide to try to film something. Then all of a sudden she turns into my shadow! 🤦🏻‍♂️ When I first opened the box with the moss I caught a fragrance and thought it was one of the orchids in the box! You wouldn’t believe how amazing the tent smells right now with the Spanish moss and the Encyclia tampensis in bloom. So far I am absolutely loving the Spanish moss on mounts. It’s everything I’ve been looking for for a very long time.... attractive, somewhat quick drying but able to provide extra moisture and extremely natural looking! I’m truly excited to see that happens over the next year in the tent.... I have been thinking more and more about incorporating Spanish moss throughout as it grows and needs to be divided. How often do you have to split/divide yours?

I’d love to know how you grow them as I’m looking to get a few myself just unsure of how Texas will fare for them! Any tips or possibly a video on what you’d recommend?

Thanks for watching!! I know they thrive in high humidity, (80% plus minimum). Intermediate temps, bright light but not full sun and I water them twice a day. They are a bit fussy but once they acclimate, they really do seem to take off! I'll do an update video before too long.

Unfortunately, my ghost orchid is dying.
What kind of fertilizer or environment will fit for this Orchid?

    • @CloudforestVibesOrchidsMore
      @CloudforestVibesOrchidsMore  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

They are a bit tricky, for sure. They grow natively in swamps snd HIGH humidity areas. No less than 80% for these guys. Greenhouse conditions are recommended on the online sources I’ve seen. I feed them low and often, between 90-150 ppm once a week or so and I mist them everyday with clean water (twice a day in the heat). They need bright light but avoid full direct sun if possible and their roots can absolutely NEVER be buried in any sort or media. Bare rooted is the way to go or with a tiny bit of Spanish moss, if you desire. I am getting away from the Spanish moss though and want them to be bare booted. If you can find Cyprus wood you’re golden, but cork bark works as well. I’m still learning mine but that’s about all I do know. They are considered difficult by everyone who I’ve spoken too but mine seem to do ok so far. VERY slow growing though....
hope this helps! Thanks for watching!

CLOUDFOREST VIBES......I don't think SPANISH MOSS is the way to go if you want something to help your orchid retain moisture. It is a LIVE AIR PLANT and it will compete with growth and dominate your orchid. You should use SPAGNUM MOSS for moisture or use the COCONUT FIBER.
