You can tell how comfortable she is in a theatrical role. Her voice along with her natural stage presence is enough to win a Tony, in my unprofessional opinion anyway.
I will never be able to get over how happy Dove looks in this video. Ariana and Maddie are trying to be assertive and convincing (really good actors of teenage girls in this situation), but Dove is just a smiley baby! She's just adorable and she's having so much fun while the other girls are trying to stay in character. It literally makes my heart S W E L L seeing all her silly faces!
But.. they're playing a character... They're supposed to be in character, dove shouldn't just be playing happy dove...

I saw it as Dove portraying a confident teen who won’t take no for an answer and is sure she’ll convince her mother that she’s grown up. Might just be my interpretation though

How is no one commenting on how good Maddie's performance as Tracy? She did such a great job and I feel like she's not getting the recognition that she deserves
Honestly, she was my favorite and it was hard to keep my eyes off her, I thought she was the best dancer as well, more expressive!
FUN FACT: This is the edited version of the song from the DVD. On the night of the actual broadcast, the lighting crew hit a slight technical difficulty towards the start of the final verse, causing Maddie Baillio to get plunged into darkness. For the DVD, they edited in footage from an earlier recorded rendition of the song to help make the glitch less noticeable. If you look closely from 3:10 - 3:25, you'll notice that Tracy is not nearly as well lit as Penny or Amber, and you can actually see the spotlight pan over to her at 3:23. The actual broadcast also has a couple other glitches throughout the evening, including a brief moment during "Good Morning Baltimore" where Maddie's microphone shorted out for a couple seconds, but I honestly didn't even notice until I read about it later in an article because I was already enjoying it so much. As the title of this channel states: The show MUST go on!

I think that was one of the reasons why they cut it from the movie, they just couldn't figure out how to film it. But then they had Ricki, Marissa and Nikki sing it on the soundtrack in it was pretty cool
@@nick4leader can someone explain why both the movie AND the TV version cut ‘The Big Dollhouse’? I love that song so much, and since the movie cut it, the TV version REALLY should have included it, it’s such a great song for the 6+ female leads
They’re all wonderful solo! Problem with that is, nobody’s willing to take the vocal back seat so they sound horrible in unison.

I was disappointed that Ariana didn’t use her theatre voice. Although her voice is very beautiful it sounds out of place because she is singing in a more pop tone but the others are singing in their theatre voice (I know she did musical theatre but clearly she must’ve lost that voice).

I think that her cat voice messed up some of her theatre voice, I remember that she always spoke in a higher pitch when she was on that show, even if she was not in character, now she seems to have gotten back to something more natural for her, but puttign that strain on her voice propably changed/damanged her theatre voice, plus she had been off bradway and singing a certian way for so long that it was probably hard for her to not sing like she had been, I feel like if she had more rehearsal time and overall prep then her voice woudl have sounded less pop-y.
I think it works well, also I think playing cat messed her up you can’t blame her?

The ending of this song, just gets me. All of their voices blend well together. I didn’t realize how much I liked Doves voice until now.

It was a difficult decision for the film's director, since Adam Shankman knew it was a well-loved song. However, I can understand why he decided to omit it. This song, with its rapid-fire chorus and harmonies, works really well on the stage but not so much in film. As we saw in this adaptation, it almost completely requires the use of split-screen in order to get the point across of the various arguments between the girls and their mothers, and that would have been incredibly jarring with the style of the rest of the film.... Then again, the movie also features of a photograph of Tracy coming to life and singing to Link during "Without Love," so maybe the director just didn't care about how much realism he was putting into the films style. LOL

Yeah but they used 3 different Tracy's to sing it for the Movie version including Rikki Lake. I think this was a way of honouring past Tracy's X

Because it would've necessitated a split screen shot (similar to phone conversations like you see in most movies) or several cuts to different settings and the director didn't want to do that, and I can sort of get it.

I come here bearing no biases for or against this cast, and I gotta say, they did a great job! My ears already super accustomed to the original broadway cast so usually other renditions sound off to me, but they did great. Dove also really sold it to me with her facial expressions (aside from the singing, which she nailed), and she even made Amber more likable than usual. Nice job.
This was the best live musical they ever did. The talent was unmatched and everyone fit their roles so well. I love revisiting it.

Dove Cameron is really talented - I never even heard of her until I saw the trailer for Schmigadoon, and she's sooooo good. She's FUNNY. A beautiful girl with great comedic ability is not always that easy to find! It's all the little things she adds, like the funny head turn in that one part. She's so good, I'm really impressed. I didn't even look at the other two, sorry to say.

You're right it doesn't sound good. I have a feeling some producer or director told Ariana to keep her signature sound instead of Broadway singing. She (and Dove to a lesser extent) are in this project to bring in viewers. They tune in to hear Ariana Grande the pop star. Ariana's a big theatre nerd, I can't imagine she came into this project with the legendary Kristen Chenoweth and thought her pop-y voice was more appropriate.
