That's the quintessence of Metal... This album has so so much power, that it hurts while it's strenghtening the listener...
MIKE of YOB told me about this unique doom band..This is a great album, its on my top 10 favorite doom albums
There's no other band out there that can capture the specific magic of Solstice. Lamentations, Halcyon, New Dark Age and White Horse Hill all stand distinct from each other in their details and character and, more importantly, they stand distinct from all other heavy metal/doom bands. One of the best.
Absolutetly! Right!... Reich Walker breathes and bleeds Metal... NDA entered my Top-10 in '98 to remain there forever.
Aeternus comes pretty close
Monumental record, in my opinion, it also embodies the spirit of Metal in its plenitude like few others. Solstice is truly a great band.

Completely overwhelming album indeed. Fell in love with it more than 15 years ago and it still gives me goosebumps.

hey, big fan here! Nice to know you got great music taste
One of the three greatest albums in history, imo. At least a fat "20" on a ten scale. Each track a killer with a helluva soul. Uncredibly. Good. Epic. Doom. Metal.
what are the other two
My Dying Bride: The Angel and the Dark River
Deep Purple: Made in Japan
Solitude Aeternus are the best Epic Doom there is, along with Solstice, Candlemass, Sorcerer and Scald!
@@aconsciousperspective5628 SA are great, but because of Candlemass worship, they lack some originality
Such an epic piece of music!
Love this; very infectious!
for anyone looking to jam/learn the songs the guitars are in B standard tuning - a testament to the guys skill to make it sound so tight and no flapping from the lower tunings
Would you have any idea on amp settings?
@@ArghoslentCheerleader1865 not sure on wha studio set up was but live Hamish on this tour used a JCM800 with marshall 4x12. Think he had a boost for solos but the distortion was all from the amp. As far as i remember it was pretty much centred at noon with gain around 7. Clean tone was just the amp as well .
Masterpiece!!
A fucking solid 10 out of 10!!.. Well done Solstice!!
Band I was in supported them on this tour on a couple of gigs, had a great time on stage playing through Hamish JCM 800 and drinking after \m/ great days
Thank you Fractured for introducing me to these guys, amazing!
"The Sleeping Tyrant"
Out of reach in realms beyond
All light and truth the hidden son
From bloodied womb father creation
Narcissus high among the suns
Under inanimate lakes of carrion pallor
Where the weight of purity bore him down
Enthroned on thorns of brimstone fury
The thief of always anoints his brow
Legion guide us, calvary calls
Entwined in threads of earthbound lust
The blood of Hubris rising (fearful)
Cast him down, nay cast him out
Beneath sombre forest funeral halflight
And moonsoaked spires of mighty oak
Titans march to summers death throes
Valour gilded hearts to overthrow
(The Sleeping Tyrant)
But really. Just how flaming well beautiful IS this album? A towering Monument of its kind. May they continue anon. Such power and so cherished.
Where in the hell I never found this before.. Thanks for sharing mate..
I listened this album more than a decade ago. Ages like fine wine.
Work of art.
a gem of an album
What a fantastic album, how have I not heard this before?! Unbelievable...
Let me bet, you are new to true metal?! Anyway, you've got an exquisite taste...
I'm 44 years old I was given this album when I was 25 old doom so you love for reminding me about moon soked Spiers of mighty oak's .😍
Very first time heard , sounds great!!!!
Hammer of Damnation!!!
5:19 best moment in the whole metal music

legion!! insane record
That accent..love it!
i love
this is as good or better then most of the so called great metal albums
because the masses are no reliable scale for great, good or any overused superlatives
What a fucking great album, i still have my CD copy.
great doom metal album
in Top 10 doom albums for me..
Hammer of Damnation!
No you.
What?
my brain is melting
Damn. Why haven't I heard of this band until now. Holy cow.
Opus of Epic Doom
The part at 7:44 sounds like Darkness In Paradise by Candlemass at 3:34
🤘🎙🎹💀😈🎼🍻
honestly, I'm still looking for some doom
I love this. Who cares whether its doom or not.
ridiculous listen that reason music..
People who came here to listen to doom metal, after listening to their first album
Got this when it came out no clue what happened to it though got it at eruptions from below=1998???...it was a cool little underground metal store in Toronto I saw cryptopsy the same night
this album is tha shit !!! in my top tens metal album
SALUDOS DESDE LIMA PERÚ
Ceará, Brasil! Jr, Pantáculo Místico 🤘
How the Fuck did I miss this band?? Seriously???
Joshua Smith you must have been asleep for several years
"New Dark Age"...and also the last one I would say.
only four comments ,what the fuck ?this is good.
I love this, is this normal doom metal or a subgenre? most doom metal I know is quite different, closer to a dark power metal, while this is much more atmospheric.
I don't consider this doom at all personally. If anything it's melodic death metal or just classic heavy metal.
Chief "Reich" Walker usually refuses the term "Doom Metal"... he calls this wonderful stuff "Epic Heavy Metal".
You can call this Epic Doom Metal. More close to type of doom you hear in Candelmass' music. The "default" doom metal in most people's mind is probably more closer to Doom/Death (My Dying Bride, early Anathema) or Doom/Gothic (Paradise Lost, Tiamat).
There's a sort of "folkiness" to it. As strange as it sounds, two bands that immediately came to mind when I started listening to this were Dissection and Rotting Christ - even though those two are VERY different in a lot of ways, there are some guitar hooks that just struck me as connecting very strongly to stuff from RC'sThy Mighty Contract and Dissection's Storm of the The Light's Bane and Reinkaos albums.
@@caljerm yeah man, I can see that now that, now that you mention it.
Where can I download this album digitally? In high quality of course.
Buy*
you can download full discography on metal tracker
Who is the vocalist on this album ? Great voice.
Fox Hunter one of my best mates lol morris ingram x
DHORA
Which Solstice came first?
Its a fantastic cover but i wonder about the cover what are exactlly both witches with spiders in belly and some other blackthing evil creature down from between no legs, i dont know if that things are dressed or undressed
Still prefer Lamentations for its pure doom approach but this is cool too.
How did they do it?
With talent.
With something thats called talent.
Wow some ereb altor vibes!! Doom on cabroes!!
if ever ereb altor have some solstice vibes, or both have Bathory vibes. I see what you mean, but this album is from 1998 :D
Sade in my suggestions, wtf, she has nothing to do with doom metal.
Maybe not, but she makes me want to kill myself
+Ken Harness hey thats ALMOST metal right?
+metalskirmish the suicide thing not that byatch
@@kenharness WTF??
Sounds like Pebtangle
10άρι Ακατέβατο.-
at 1.5 it sounds like power metal
clearly doom metal..
in a way, interesting?
Great music but if you listen Bathory Hammerheart, twiligh of the gods, blood on ice ,maybe you will find more answers
this is a different solstice than the one i wanted. this makes me sad
this solstice is also better so GG.
How did I get from Slugathor to this... stupid youtube
lol same thing, just from Archgoat xD
+Brian Peniuk You say it like it a bad thing you ended on Solstice =)
your hot looking
take that back no way. I for once value life.
The only thing bad about this album is the vocals, they sound so amateur. Too bad because the guitars are beyond great.
They sure sound odd... and the r-sound is very Dracula... ha ha ha
Yes. I don't think they're terrible, pero definitely not great, and everything else is great.
Idk, I kind of like how the vocals are at odds with the music, if that's what it is. They sort of float above the riffs. Def under-powered compared to Messiah's vocals, but more prominent than Wino's.
Vox are quite weak, but whatreyagonnado.....
Vocals are strong and classy. This is doom metal, where singing is a must, not cheap growling
Excellent album, but that singer is ... Meh. Sometimes very accurate, sometimes just getting me out of the song.
meh, heard this before, not very original
better than candlemass shit..
i dont understand, why compare bands, no sense at all?
Crap doom
Manowar's Into Glory Ride hss also epic doom elements.Secret of steel, Hstred, Gloves of metal and of course Dsrk Scenger drom rhe debut.UK' s Solstice is one of the best ever epic doom metal, on par with Atlantean Kodex and much better than Sorcerer, Solutude Aeturnus etc who lack good melodies to make the result really epic.of course, Candlemass are in a league of their own with their first 4 masterpieces
