As much as your step three is correct and highly recommend anyone to use this technique on your low end, you forgot to mention that depending on your genre of music you're making, sub bass notes usually don't stay on the same note and rhythmic patterns also mess with the phase of sub frequencies. So, the phase rotation cannot be set in one place and then carry on, you're going to have to rotate the phase in your synth so it can match the note that your sub is playing at and the rhythmic pattern also. Hopefully this helps others in understanding how phase rotation actually works when getting a balanced low end. :) BTW all your other steps are completely spot on!
Yes, and if the sub bass sound is not a pure sine wave it's going to be so difficult, but I wanted to mention it in case it helps anyone for specific cases :)
