Dark skin actually looks really beautiful, the way it shines. I used to try becoming more beautiful when I was a little kid but not once did I try to become fairer. I'm a pretty dark skinned girl but my skin was never a problem for me. But having dark skin automatically makes you ugly, that's what some people believe. My paternal family are all fair skinned and I was like the first dark skinned child born because my mom is dark too. So now whenever a child of my cousins are born dark, they'd say that the child takes after me.

I find it fascinating that Indians make such minute distinctions between skin shades. Most of the time, unless you are talking about Bollywood actors, the differences in degrees of fairness are minimal.
Indian come in all colours everything from eye colour to skin. Light eyes, dark eyes, light hair, dark hair, light skin, dark skin we have it all. As we go towards the north generally people are lighter-skinned as we go towards the south people might be darker-skinned. If we go northeast people have more East Asian features and can easily be confused to being from some of the South East Asian countries.

I don't understand the language fully but I am getting angry on the girl's side actually. Why do you want to negotiate with a family that gives importance only to skin colour? Why does the scene feels like selling a jewellery and negotiating terms? Why do you want to convince someone into marrying your daughter if that family clearly doesn't have any respect for her?
I do understand that this is a made up scene but these things happen in real life too

This seems dramatized beyond belief. In a practical scenario, it is possible that the boy's family would just get up abruptly and walk away from they don't like the girl. But of course it is a social experiment.
The point of social experiment is to see how the people react. I'm sure you meant it nicely and yes practically, what you said would've happened. Let's instead try to focus on the fact that there are people who are good and will stand up for what's wrong instead of practicality or not
