I had a friend tell me that "horse riding isn't a sport because it's super easy cause you just sit there and the horse does all the work" so I took her with me and put her on my horse. I put her on a lunge line and as soon as the horse started trotting, she lost balance and fell. Never said a word after that and finally started respecting equestrians.
People say in school "oh that is so easy,I have rode before and it is sooooo easy" but they have only done a pony ride!!! I get people asking me questions like "I know why you smell like poo!! It is all the horses poo!!!"but I just ignore them! We train hours on end and never give up! We get thrown we get kicked but we just get back up and try again!! We have to trust our horses/ponies!! Ponies/horses are everything to us equestrians!!! We would to anything for them!!!! Thank you soooo much Samm for saying this!!!!!!
I’m also an equestrian and I HATE it when someone thinks or says that the horse is doing all the work because the mare or stallion isn’t doing all the work and your right that it’s a partner thing. So can non-equestrians stop complaining that the horse is doing ALL the work!? And equestrians keep on doing you beautiful work and stay happy and let no one tell you anything!
The very fact that I had to slow it down to 0.25x speed and pause it on each one just to read each of the "what we're always thinking" just drives home the point even further (so well done on that part especially!) - we are constantly thinking and adjusting and reminding ourselves the entire time! And definitely 100% on the partner thing - we are a team, and my horse trusts me just as much as I trust her, to the point that I am comfortable taking her out totally by myself out in the desert for hours, miles from any cell phone reception, because we trust each other that we will still get each other home safe (can't say that for most of the other horses on our ranch - some like to pull fast ones on occasion, dumping their rider and running off, sometimes running the 1-3 miles back to the barn).

Not only just this. We have to plan to help our horses as much as possible. We have to be ready to react if our horses get scared. We have to be there for our horses when they need us to be there for them
yeah, I saw a vid where a girl was on her horse and said,"Why isn't he doing a piaffe on his own?" as a joke to prove that if we just sat there, the horse would too lmao best thing I've seen, other than this :D

So many people that were in my school always said ‘horse riding isn’t a sport’ ‘ horse riding is so easy’ and then they never listen, horse riding is one of the most dangerous and old sport in the world and I think people need to pay more attention to how much we work all day long!

I absolutely despise it when people say that. Do you know, besides the grit, effort, thought, and strength in it, how FREAKING brave equestrians are? We are on a massive animal that if it wanted to, it could KILL us, VERY painfully. We ride an animal that, at any time, could race of, bite us hard enough to make us bleed, buck us off, rear, and then TRAMPLE US TO DEATH. Like-think about what you’re saying before you speak. And to all my sweet baby horses who as good boys/girls and don’t kill us, I LOVE YOU YOU DESERVE KISSES, SNUGGLES, AND TREATS, CUS YOU DO DO SOME OF THE WORK(not all) And to my equestrian besties-have a snuggle break with your horse. You both deserve it.
I've always loved horses, and the idea of riding fascinates me. I'm going to be taking my first lesson soon, and I'm so excited. But I'm also scared. I know how hard it is, but I want to put everything into it to make it work, even though I've never even done it.

@@karimu_aoi7620 I relate! Some of my relatives are somewhat horse-y but they lived really far away and it was up to me to kind of take initiative with my riding. Luckily I found a really great barn and everyone there is super helpful and supportive! I hope you found the same!
I ride horses and I agree and my family went on an organized trail ride where the horses go every day and you don't have to do anything because they know to follow the horse in front, and my sister went and said it was easy and that she could do any of the stuff I do.
A very funny story, my brother always says riding is so easy, but then he tried it out and he was having such a hard time lol! Which sucked for him cuz he is such a sore loser and basically throws temper tantrums when he isn't right/isn't better than everyone (He is older than me!)
Fair, although if you fall off every day I'd be concerned that the horse is experiencing pain, too green for the rider, or they are moving to fast in their training together. Correct me if I'm wrong, I certainly don't know the experience for upper level professional riders, but to me falling off every day seems excessive.

I've done riding and caring horses, and my friend has over 25 horses, and yes it requires some effort from your side, but most of that effort is keeping the horse, feeding, medicine, food... that's the hard part. Horse riding itself is easy; falling from a horse is bad but other sports have other injuries that are from just your own sheer level of strength and coordination you need to achieve. When you horse ride, you share that effort with the mass of muscle that is a horse; the mass of muscle you nurtured. And you know what, that's fine; what's the problem with that?... humans came up with horse riding because it was easier than walking or pushing weights around. I don't like the elitism in horse riding; riding isn't hard, keeping a horse is hard. There's a reason it's a good thing for little girls, it teaches responsibility, confidence, and it exercises them; despite how weak and uncoordinated they are, it's great, but it's the horse keeping the hard part, not the riding, otherwise it'd be impossible for such small girls to pull it off.
I agree to some extent, there is so much skill, effort, and knowledge put into horse back, it takes years to get down the basics and really understand the spot. It also requires lots of muscle and stamina to ride. Don’t forget the mental part of it too! There is so many things you have to think about at once. So I would say it’s more difficult then you are stating but hey everyone experiences things differently so that just how I see it!
“I’ve done riding” yes, on a circus pony, obviously that’s not hard. So don’t speak for real equestrians who have done all the hard work. Have you ever tried jumping? Or even dressage? If you did you would keep your mouth shut.
I do competitive dressage. People compare it to playing golf. They say, you just sit there, they say, the horse does all the work, they say, I have ridden before. Let me tell you something. You have not trained a green horse to be a dressage horse. You did get bucked 15+ times. You did not put in the sweat, tears, and determination that I did. You sat and watched while "the horse did all the work." I put in hours of training, hours of work, just to see my horse lose at a competition. All to get up and do again, because I have an unbreakable bond with my mare. So no, I don't just sit there, no, the horse doesn't do all the work, and NO you have not RiDdEn before.
