    The awesome thing about HPI is the support. I broke a 35A ESC (old Bullet), sent it in, and I got a 60A Waterproof ESC and an apology note back!

    Before anyone asks, I always ran the truck on 2S LIPO. I did get the new CVD axles in the front before I sold it, but kept braking hex pins, hexes, and hub carriers. I think rcnightmare may want to do more testing and rethink his review. Fun factor was a 1 or 2. Could never get through a battery pack without breaking something.

    Great review. I love the new style because it makes sure you cover everything about the kit. And I realized the shocks and electronics are really grinding your balls... every category those two subjects brought it down.. Hopefully HPI sees this, one of the best reviews I've ever seen

    Man I love this channel. Ive been SCOURING the internet for my first RTR truck and I really wanted to settle on this, either from finding the closest truck to what Ive been looking for in a truck...or because Im just tired of searching. either way I value your opinion as well as your partners on these things. Thanks and keep up the great work.

    Hello, i own the bullet (1 generation means no waterproof, no 3s) since 2 years now and i never had any heat issues, in my opinion it is because of the waterproofing.. i never had any problems with it and it still runs perfectly fine, the only problem that i have is that bones break regularly, but i bought cvd s now...;) greetings from europe

    Very good review, and your 100% right. It does need work but this would be an awesome kit. I bought the nitro version when they first come out, kept breaking hubs so decided to leave it on the shelf until no pups were available.. Now the wr8 is out ill be using the upgrades off that and converting it to a brushless setup. Love the new review system you got going dude. Keep up the good work!

    Upgrade it! Integy makes full range of aluminum parts now for c-hubs and so forth.
    I did exactly what you said, replaced esc/motor with wp-sc8 and 550 for 3s use. Now it rocks!

    Based on what you said here, I'd give it a 2.5/5. RTR with unrealistic electronics is un-forgivable. Better off having a well-set-up brushed system. Riddle me this: If you just went down a couple teeth on the pinion, would it be good on 2S? Or would that slow it down to where it wouldn't be enough fun for the money?
    Last thing: I just picked up a Stampede 4x4 VXL. Great truck. Now, I want something that is just as durable, but handles flatter, and still with enough ground clearance to run on short/medium grass. I want to try to avoid 1/8 scale and the dual batteries. But if I have to go that route, I'll probably just stick with Traxxas and get an eRevo.

    One thing; the new Hpi Bullet vehicles come with a 60a ESC and a 4 pole 4000kv motor. This combo is no longer used. Just saying for future buyers the new combo is much much better than this one.

    • @ps3customgamer
      @ps3customgamer 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The current one has a newer ESC/Motor than you mentioned. FLUX EMH-3S ESC which will do 80A constant current as oppose to 60A and 35A in the old flux reload V2 & V1. Burst current on the new ESC is 540A instead of the 190A in the V2.
      The new motor is a true 540 instead of a 380 motor with a weird heatsink casing spacing it to 540.

  • @Gavs_rc_hobbies

    very nice review, totally agree with you regarding budgets, $500/00 rc car is not cheap...this toys are expensive and some of us expect them to last for that kind of money especially the RTR models, my baja 5b" steering servo went bad after only 10 half tanks of fuel, approximately 1 month, not really happy, had to install Hitec servos" which added another couple of hundred dollars to a very expensive buggy

  • @RandomRelay
    @RandomRelay 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    The flux reload v2 is actually a Hobbywing 60A ESC, which is usually combo-ed with full sized fin-less 540 motors, so why not just spend 25 bucks on a Tacon motor instead of an entire new system.

  • @shawnfarmer9291
    @shawnfarmer9291 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    its a love hate relationship for me. I thought this truck was going to be so bad a__ , but it has turned out to be such a disappointment. The first trip out end after 15 mins of just trail riding after a bolt holding the hub assembly in came out . After that was fixed and is was running again the second trip ended after 10 mins when a dogbone broke. I think the truck looks so cool so I wasn't giving up on it just yet so while I was online ordering a new dogbone I accidently hit " one click buy " on a full aluminum upgrade kit for it, so needless to say I put that on and the new dogbone.Aand wouldn't you know it, after just 15 more mins of running another dogbone broke. Needless to say im very disappointed in this truck. As I was of the stampede vxl that I had purchased before this. the stampede hubs and axles couldn't hold up to a 2s battery that's why I purchased the bullet. Trying to find a decent 4x4 truck. Im not happy with either of them. Im not going to sugar coat anything. Combined with upgrades, replacement parts and the original purchase of these 2 trucks, I have over 1000.00 dollars of junk. I wish I could say that I ran these trucks hard but that's not the case, that's why I feel the way I do.They are now both in cardboard boxes marked RIP. I lost all desire to even look at them anymore let alone try to run them.Just ordered a Traxxas Slash 4x4 with onboard sound as well as the stabilization system. I guess I will see how that turns out.If I were to recommend a vehicle it would have to be the Traxxas Rustler. All I can say is OMG, I beat the heck out of this thing and it keeps coming back for more. I have broken nothing on this car yet. Although it isn't a 4x4 it is awesome to rip around on the street and to jump. OMG it takes a beating. I even put a castle creations motor { momba max } on it and still hasn't broken . it lands jumps 12 feet in the air and keeps on going. The motor, a 3s battery and that's it. well several sets of tires from burning them down to nothing JUST A AWESOME CAR.I hope the slash is as good as this.

    Great video! The only comment I have in regards to review is the terrain you drove it on. Living Los Angeles County, there aren't many grass fields, more street or dirt places for me, so I guess my question is, how is the heat on those types of terrains? Thanks again!

  • @RCman720
    @RCman720 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    dont get me wrong, the XO-1 isnt like a new version of a slash 4x4 or anything, it is only loosely based off of a slash.. one of the most significant similarities would be the drivetrain, which is basically the same other then the driveshafts

    Shocks are terrible, electronics are terrible. Yes, you were VERY generous. Here's what you should do: Take out the stock electronics and either throw it in the (flea)bay or save it for an appropriate kit. Throw some Traxxas shocks on it, if they'll fit. They're amazingly cheap on ebay. People take them off of E-Maxxes 8 at a time, and they're good shocks.

    on a side note though my buddy runs a stampede and has replaced his esc twice, his motor once on 2s. I don't buy traxxas so I don't know what issues they may have with production but I do know he had to replace his outa pocket and those esc's arent cheap like a 100 on ebay, comparison the esc for the bullet is only 65. I don't know if u were like me and lucked out with your esc or if he got screwed either way he still had to drop another 300 not counting parts of the truck also was a lot of $

    by biggest problem really is the fact that you simply cannot run it as it comes out of the box..it's supposed to be an rtr ya know? I worry for most people who just cram a 3S in there and go....

  • @murdrox_87
    @murdrox_87 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Don't get me wrong, it's an awesome little car. But the fact that i have spent more time repairing the suspension and controllarms is really annoying, since the plastic i got with it (and ordered) is very fragile. If i had to give it 1-5 i would give it 2.5/5.

    I had the Bullet MT over a year ago. I had to sell it. Fun truck, but everything broke. It was hard to get parts and no upgrades. Put traxxas velinion system and better servo in it. The axles popped out or broke. The hub carriers, hex pins, hex's themselves, front differential gears all broke. Could have been a really fun truck, but I think they went the cheep route on the drivetrain. Not worth the money.

    Wouldn't a simple pinion gear change solve the heat issue?

  • @nerdyrcdriver
    @nerdyrcdriver 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Dang tablet. Pressed the wrong button. What is the longest running velenion system you have? Everyone I know had the vxl ESC die under normal conditions. It is stupid that the battery is supposed to be unplugged rather than using the power button. The motors are pretty good other than the shaft being to long for many gear covers.

  • @AussieRCBasher
    @AussieRCBasher 11 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @logitechz3
    @logitechz3 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Putting big brands in this car is a waste of money if they are a must buy, then you have to go for something cheaper. It cost 350$ + 110 for the castle and for 460 bucks you have a bunch of better alternatives, and buying a better servo is a must too, so... by the way 4600 kv is too much for a truck. (Turnigy trackstar 80A esc and 3650 4000 kv motor for 50 $, just an example)

    double shocks for axle is double trouble and work every time you will change the setup. also to keep the shocks in condition. if my baja 5t woud be double shock it woud be too expensive for me.

    Hey guys, been watching some reviews, thinking of getting back into the RC hobby. Want 1 car to do everything and couldn't find a way to ask questions on your site. I'm considering the stampede 4x4 Vxl but have read mixed reviews on Traxxas in general, this how flux seems cool but I don't like the idea of knowing I have to spend more right from the get go to upgrade it. My buddy got a exc ruckus, and I really like the erevo but don't like the cost. I really like the Kraton 6S heard it is built well and shouldn't need upgrading but I'm interested if you have any input on the Kraton. Thanks Jeffrey

    Hmm, so you are lucky with traxxas electronics but horribly unlucky with castle ones. That seems to be about the opposite of everyone I have ever talked to or seen on forums. Do you have a fan on that vxl esc? I wonder if my friends and I let ours get to hot and the thermal shutdown failed. Although, if I remember correctly two of them just randomly died when we plugged in the batteries with the correct polarity.

    well your score for the electronics is way low but its not your fault. the esc has two big production flaws, it either burns up or the over heat protections kicks on way to much...yours is def the second. I usually run mine on 3s but when I ran a competition venom 2s and had mine geared with a 12 tooth pinion "hpi part" and it ran pretty cool "keep in mind its a 65 amp esc, 2s should never be a problem" but im a lucky one that got a esc with out flaws. hpi should replace it :)

I saw the Halix breaks driveshafts. I don't have experience with either. Redcat Racing sells them around the the same price too, but my local store doesn't have them.

  • @richardlively1492
    @richardlively1492 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    the electronics isnt as bad as you said, i only ran 3s in mine and never fried my esc, and that motor has insane power way more than it ever should givn its a short can motor the only thing thats under power is the steering servo but even then it still does the job. the price is only 350 for a solid amount of aluminum parts stock and 8 shocks and all water proof and brushless the only thing ive broken is the right hub carrier 3 times and not from impact but from torque of the motor "still has original left hub carrier and ive owned this basher for 2 yrs" compared to the pede which is all plastic...even the freekn drive shafts and its almost a hundred more dollars makes the bullet the truck to get. my buddy had done nothing but buy replacement parts on his truck running 2s and has had to buy 2 esc's and 1 motor which tells me the traxxas electronics isnt "bullet proof" not to say that the bullet ones are perfect but if it fries its cause someone ran 3s geared up and with overheat shut off, if u run 3s with the 8 tooth pinion or even 9 u wont have an issue.

    • @richardlively1492
      @richardlively1492 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      oh plus the pede esc doesnt come fan cooled or even include a power switch...unless this has changed in the past yr, and hpi always gives great tires on rtr's that usually m2 or softer compounds

    ive had 4 VXL esc's burn up. ive had 1 Ezrun 35amp ESC burn up. the ezrun 60a ESC can power a 4x4 that size. The only reason the vxl is better is cause traxxas will replace them for free (most the time) when they burn up. and they do, even on 2s.

      Joseph170 sounds like my SC10rs....5 months, 40+ lipo packs threw it or around 20+ hours of runtime. Ive had to replace the rear tires cause they went bald, and I broke a drive pin. That is it! I cant think of another Rc ive had that I put that much runtime on that needs so little work.
