Volk is a truly an inspiration. Went up a weight class, fought a man everyone thought was invincible, didn’t look back. He put a beating on Islam too. If he was afraid, he didn’t show it. Well done Alex, you should be proud.
First of all, I scored Volk winning. Mak is a joke. Him and Khabib made a career outta fighting glorified featherweights.
I'd love to see Mak and Khabib fight the likes of Usman upper weight like Volk did. He'd get destroyed. But they won't. They know their limit's.

Still my pound for pound number 1. He has more defences in his division then Islam and he really made this a tough fight for Islam that got more and more tired in the later rounds. Crazy cardio by Volk in last rounds. He went up to another division and was closer then many tought. Should not be deranked for this amazing performence against a much bigger guy
Honestly Volk is one of the best inspirations in the fight business today. They guy went up weightclasses, took on one of the best wrestlers in the game, humble and honestly sharp as a razors edge. I'm a huge fan of him before, during and after the fight. Mad respect to Volk!

Volk’s pace and nonstop feints kept Islam’s striking in check a bit too I think.
I didn’t think I could be more impressed when watching Volk’s previous fights but this was insane performance by him.
One of my favorite fights ever.
The first time he rocked Islam, i noticed he remained patient, didnt swarm and started feinting the knee. Brilliant.
That being said Volk had an off night in terms of his striking. Same looping overhand, over and over. And his kicks looked like shit. His wrestling was on point. But had the Volk who showed up for the 3rd Holloway fight showed up I feel he would have beat him.
@@usernotfound904 That differential in striking is the effect of the threat of the takedown from Islam. Against Max there was no threat whatsoever so he could be absolutely loose, and use his full range of motion and repertoire of weapons. Famous examples of this would be Khabib knocking down mcgregor, or Kamaru knocking out Jorge. Striking wise they're both not as good as their opponents, but the threat of the take down is so great, that it opens up opportunities for the wrestler, while closing opportunities for the "striker". Also, training an entire camp to fight islam is probably gonna be a lot more wrestling heavy than usual, so that may have played a role.

Volk is an amazing fighter but what sets him apart is the fight IQ. He’s breaking down the entire fight so technically literally moments after and hasn’t even seen the film yet. He remembers every move and every detail. One of the greatest ever.

They both nullified each other in their strongest parts of their game. True MMA match and was very close to judge.

I love this man. I was so convinced he was going to win in the lead up and still believe he should’ve got the nod in the end. Volk has become my favorite fighter just by being himself. He’s one of the most inspiring people on the planet the way he carry’s himself.
3-2 either way is just about right. Great fight, both men were fantastic. Definitely run it again just for our entertainment because that was brilliant. Respect to both guys.

After rewatching the fight he may have slightly lost the match, but he definitely won the actual fight. Islam really was holding on for dear life multiple times, and honestly now I think about it the new judging criteria really doesn't reward that type of behavior....

IMO he did, and round 4 could've gone either way too. Islam didn't outright win any round to me, but Volk dominated round 5. I'm gonna put money on him beating Islam in the rematch.

Bruh I had my first grappling competition today at 22 years old, this shit is a whole other type of cardio! 5 minutes left me like a puddle on the floor and meanwhile volkanovski went 25 minutes with the best and he was still jittery with energy in the cage

No matter how high intensity something was you're never gonna breathe heavily for more than 10 minutes, and this was probably at least 20 minutes after the fight ...

Very tight fight. We couldn't expect more given the great level of the two athletes.
Islam could have done better but underestimated his opponent.Over confidence is dangerous.
I think Volk wins the rematch honestly. He was playing it a little too safe but I think if he went all in, he pulls out the victory. Also the walkout music and the crowd energy was legendary
The counter argument to that however is now Islam knows exactly how good Volk is and he can adjust accordingly. As Volk said, Islam thought that once he got Volk down it would be fight over. It wasn't so now Islam knows what to work on.

Everyone underestimated Volk. Even diminishing his accomplishments like getting out of Ortega's choke by saying "That wasn't Islam. Islam won't let him get out." Saying he was too small and too weak. Saying he stood absolutely no chance. Volk proved a lot this fight and showed he's 100% one of the best fighters. I would love to see a rematch and can't wait to watch him against Yair

I became a UFC superfan like a year and a half ago, didn't believe in Volk until seeing him absolutely starch Holloway in their third fight. That Ortega fight is worth your time too. Volk vs Chad Mendes is great too, the UFC never promotes it though since Mendes is a BKFC star now.

yea he so hesitant on the leg kick out of fear of the takedown, but every time he did go islam never caught his leg into a takedown, only time islam got him was when he over committed to his punches

Like I've been saying on.many video's, rugby strength is just different. Anyone who's a rugby player will know how tough you have to be strong. Volks was strong and tough throughout the rounds.

In the rugby field, you don't care about size and Volks really did many rugby players proud. Imagine if rugby players cross over to play UFC. They need time to learn the sport and get experience. Me speaking from experience, I know what rugby has really made me a tough.
I am not a follower and only occasionally watch UFC. Haven't watched any of Volkanovski's fights before, except this one with Islam Makhachev. Still trying to understand how Volkanovski became one of my favourite fighters just watchinfg this one fight!!
