This is one of those situations where nobody lost, Islam showed he's world class on the feet and beat the #1 p4p, Volk showed he can hang with the boogeyman in the wrestling department in a super close fight that made Islam look human, not to mention his star power sky rocketed, and the fans definitely won.

This fight kind of reminded me of Khamzat vs Burns. In both cases the underdog made the boogeyman look human, even if they lost. Islam usually you were making weight in Saturday morning and fighting Sunday night but this time UFC changed timing and you needed to fight on Sunday morning does it effected your recovery after weight-loss? Islam said of course it impacted because we body has recovery process and gets used to it and if you give less time to recovery it will not be recovered fully. Also in the morning I felt that my body wasn't fully recovered cuz I was looking skinnier than usually.

I feel like there's a number of reasons why Islam didn't stop Alex during the fight. The change in atmosphere, Khabib not being in his corner for the first time, The bad weight cut, and Alex's good chin played a factor aswell. Alex barely has a neck so he absorbs punches better than the average person.

Amazing fight! Volk really impressed me - you can never count him out. Islam was also great - he went into enemy territory and got the job done. Sometimes Champions have to really dig down and Islam did this using all facets of his game. Hopefully we'll get to see this one run back.

Amazing performance by both guys! I think people are seeing it as closer than it was because they expected so little of Volk. I also think in a rematch that Islam would fight smarter and wrestle more. Either way absolutely incredible fight and incredible card.

I thought the scoring is now based on damage. What damage did Islam do when he got top position? He didn't even threaten or attempt any submissions. Islam said of course it impacted because we body has recovery process and gets used to it and if you give less time to recovery it will not be recovered fully. Also in the morning I felt that my body wasn't fully recovered cuz I was looking skinnier than usually.

Hey guys, back again translating the Russian part for you. The reporter said, that Khabib said that there were some mistakes in this fight and Islam needs to work on them. He then asked "What mistakes do you think you made tonight, Islam, and what should you have done differently."

I feel like there's a number of reasons why Islam didn't stop Alex during the fight. The change in atmosphere, Khabib not being in his corner for the first time, The bad weight cut, and Alex's good chin played a factor aswell. Alex barely has a neck so he absorbs punches better than the average person.
Not gonna lie both were super impressive,islam has improved a lot in striking and volk showed that australian has elite wrestling,islam is going to be 10 times funnier than khabib to watch for sure if he keeps going like tonight

@shah Aman khan explain to me how he won the first 4 rounds at all, let alone "clearly" won them. Damage is supposed to be the top scoring criteria. Islam did no damage the few times he did get volk down, and volk won the stand up. If you want to say he won because of the control time, okay, but that isn't supposed to be that important anymore. I'm not a big fan of either guy, so I'm as unbiased as it gets. If anything, I was excited to see a version of khabib, but with better striking. To say he is the pound for pound best fighter in the world, is just a little insane when I literally just watched him getting his ass kicked for the whole last round. And all of the other rounds were close. Anyone who actually knows how to fight knows that volk was pulling away dramatically in that last round. One more round and volk finishes him. But he's the best fighter in the world, better than the guy who almost finished him lmfao.
