      @@A330Driver loved it! To me it shows exactly how serious the beta testing it, and the complexity/detail within the simulation. Great reactions too for the emergency descent! I just need to get my hands on a QRH 🤣 I'll watch your other video now too - keep up the good work, and I've subscribed too 🙂

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@BritishAvgeek That's exactly it. I've betatested for other companies before who a different scope of complexity for their products and I can tell you the PMDG beta is so much more intensive. At PMDG they care about reports about tiny details where in the other betas the usual answer would have been "not in the scope of this product". It's an amazing experience.
      For the QRH - just google it ;-)
      There's at least an -800 QRH available out there. As long as you don't use the performance inflight figures for it it's mostly applicable to the -700 as well (with minor exceptions ie in the air conditioning system).

    I really like and appreciate your content! So good to see a PRO showing how things are done. Not only flying the aircraft but also how to handle certain abnormal situations and how these are handled between the pilot and ATC. I'm sure ATC appreciates you challenge them like this as well. Making their experience acting as ATC more realistic. Then finally as someone else already commented, without all disturbing discussions etc going on in many other videos and streams with chatting and talking to viewers etc during the flight. Instead, your focus is 100% on the actual flight and making it as real as it gets.
    Bravo and keep these videos coming my friend 👍

      Thank you so much! For ATC it’s always a twofold experience on VATSIM. Most people simulating emergencies are not 100% confident in what they are doing and then things are going southbound very fast.
      However when it’s done correctly I’m sure it is a very nice experience for them as well.

    Here's a question for you. I thought when setting the transponder to 7700, you had to be careful not to scroll through 7500, or am I mistaken.

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Indeed you should avoid it. However the transponder does not transmit new squawk instantly but there's some delay in it. If you're dialing in a new 4 digit code then chances are that ATC won't see you going through all the numbers but it'll change from the old to the new squawk immediately and skip all the steps in between. This is provided that you don't wait too long before continuing with the next digit after you're done with the previous.
      However, you're right, you should normaly have set the second digit before the first one, in case the third and fourth are at zero already and the first is not a seven.
      But in situations like this where you are most likely almost task saturated you can easily miss these things.

    I have a technical question in regards to speed, at the start of the video your IA is around 250 knots, so how is that .750 Mach? I have some familiarity with true airspeed and ground speed etc, but why does the indicated airspeed at cruise seem so slow, when it isn’t?

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      In easy words: The speed indication is just an indication of the pressure on the pitot tube. Since there's less air at higher altitude it means that there's less pressure on the tube as well (at the same TAS) since there are less particles hitting it when you fly.
      The Mach Number on the other hands side is directly dependant on outside air temprature. The higher you go, the colder it gets, and therefore the slower the speed of sound becomes. Now as the Mach Number is simply the percentage of the speed of sound that you're flying it means that with increasing altitude and at constant airspeed your Mach Number increases since the speed of sound decreases.
      Does that make sense?

    Richtig richtig gut!!!!
    Ich habe mal eine Frage: Was ist der Unterschied wenn ich beim Climb/ Descent im MCP die Höhe veränder und dazu den VS einstelle ODER ich einfach nur LVL CHG drücke?

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Der Hauptunterschied ist die Art auf die der Flieger geflogen wird.
      Bei LVL CHG ist der Schub konstant auf das maximum für die Flugphase gesetzt und der Flieger setzt den Steigwinkel um die Geschwindigkeit zu halten. Besonders bei leichten Flugzeugen kann das in sehr hohen Steigraten resulieren.
      Wenn Du allerdings mit V/S fliegst, gibst Du dem Flieger vor wie schnell er steigen soll und der Autothrottle versucht die Geschwindigkeit mit dem Schub zu halten.
      Das hat drei Nachteile:
      1) Den geringsten Treibstoffverbrauch hast Du, umso höher Du bist. Also willst Du so schnell es geht hoch kommen. V/S liefert dir im Zweifel aber weniger Steigrate als LVL CHG (es sei denn Du passt sie ständig von Hand an).
      2) Du hast keinen Schutz vor Overspeed/Underspeed Situationen, zumindest nicht bis Du ganz kurz davor bist in eine rein zu geraten. Wenn Du zu schnell steigst oder zu schnell sinkst, kann deine Geschwindigkeit in die eine oder andere Richtung wegrennen. Der Flieger reverted dann irgendwann automatisch zu LVL CHG, aber da bist Du schon viel zu nah an den Grenzen der Flugdynamik. Das willst du nicht riskieren. Dann noch eine Windböe und Du hast entweder einen Stall oder der Techniker kommt zur Overspeed Inspektion.
      3) Im V/S Mode arbeitet Autothrottle mit Schubänderungen um die anvisierte Geschwindigkeit zu halten. Jede Veränderung im Schub bedeutet auch eine Änderung der Temperatur in der Brennkammer und der Turbinensektion deines Triebwerks.
      Und jede Temperaturänderung verkürzt die Lebenszeit des Triebswerks. Also willst Du möglichst lange möglichst konstanten Schub haben, um diesen Effekt zu reduzieren.

  • @MrTurbohampster
    @MrTurbohampster 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Sorry don't mean to sound like I'm picking holes in your video.
    But was just wondering why you don't use the right to left technique for Emergency descent (Alt, Hdg, Spd, Lvl Chg, Speedbrake, Refine alt)?
    Also why did you set the QNH when cleared to FL080?
    Good work clicking everything with the mouse and doing both roles though

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We're doing things slightly different in my airline as we first set a lower level, then press LVL CHG and then HDG SEL and select the new heading.
      I did slightly deviate from the SOP in the video and closed the thrust levers and extended the speed brake before going for HDG SEL, that's true and should have been done the other way round.
      You see, we are basically using the right to left technique, but slightly modified compared to yours. We first make the airplane go down, then start the turn and then put up the speed if required.
      Setting the QNH is part of our SOP in the emergency descend. Now, normally you'd descend to 10.000ft, regardless of the transition level. Imagine maining FL100 while the local QNH is 1043. Then you'd be almost at 11.000ft and take off your oxygen mask. Therefore QNH is used regardless of the level you're descending to.
      I decided to descend further to 8.000 as 10.000 is the absolute maximum where you don't need oxygen. But why go to the limit?
      At 10.000ft your night vision will become impared if you maintain it for a longer time. At 8.000ft things are much easier for the human body.
      Finally, why did I use QNH at "FL80"? That was due to tactical reasons on VATSIM. I could have requested 10.000ft or 8.000ft but many VATSIM controllers will think you don't know what you're doing and start explaining you the difference between altitude and flight level. At that point I did really not want to bother with such explanations as I had much more important things to do. Thus I simply did it without asking for it.
      Of course ATC needs to be kept in the loop and thus when I got handed over to approach I told him that I'm maintining 8.000ft and not FL80.

    • @MrTurbohampster
      @MrTurbohampster 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@A330Driver thanks for the explanation. Was just wondering as right to left is a very common Boeing technique for emergency descent. Obviously if your airlines has a different procedure. That's what you follow.
      I'm rusty on my 737 systems haven't flown it for over 15yrs 😬.
      But doesnt the QRH and the regs state mask must be worn with a cabin altitude greater than 10,000ft aka 700hpa of atmospheric ressure as per the regs.
      Which makes sense as our ability to absorb oxygen is down to the atmospheric pressure, not the exact height above the ground.
      So even if the QNH is high the cabin alt should still be 10k @ FL100 as cabin altitude is referenced to 1013hpa pressure setting.
      Now if you descend to 10,000ft instead with a low pressure setting say the opposite of what you said 983hpa. The cabin altitude will be 10800ft, a worse situation.
      Anyway it's kind of irrelevant as you wouldn't remove the mask until the cabin alt is below 10k.
      Was just interested as was first time I had seen that procedure. Thanks for the detailed explanation.
      Completely agree about descending below 10,000ft/FL100 if able though

    beautiful plane it's just a shame how bad msfs 2020 is.

      It's not THAT bad. Infact in my personal opinion it's about the best sim we have at the moment.
      True, flight dynamics might not be as good as in X-Plane, but they aren't totally horrible either.

      I recommend watching the PMDG official channel, that is where the official tutorials will be uploaded to. Obviously with the aircraft still in beta it would be silly to make a tutorial on a system such as the FMC when it is subject to change so I would not expect a tutorial on it until closer (if not before) the release date (which is yet to be announced)

    Landing feels so bland without head movement. Yuck.

      Those landings where your head actually moves a lot are typically those which the passengers complain about the most!
