PMDG 737-700 for MSFS - Failures: Dual FMC Failure (on VATSIM)

  • Hi all, I'm a PMDG tech team member and real life 737 pilot and today I've created this video to show you some of the abilities of the PMDG 737-700 for MSFS. It is intended as first in a whole series to follow where I'll be showing some non normal operation of the airplane.
    Before we start I would like to offer my sincere thank you to VATSIM Germanies Regional Group Bremen, who managed to facilitate me on todays online day. Great job gentleman!
    RG Bremen runs the Hamburg online day every thursday from 187 to 20z and I can strongly recommend to visit them!
    In todays video we will look at the dual FMC failure.
    Many of you think modern airliners are dependant on their computers. And you're right to a certain extend. In this video we will see what happens when those actually fail and we are left without an FMC.
    How do you navigate? What about approach speeds?
    The video has been taken using a pre-release beta version of the product, so you can expect to see some issues that will be fixed before release. There's no need to point those out as the team will be aware and working on them already. One example is the missing trim sounds which are still to be added.
    If you like my videos please consider a small donation as it's taking a lot of time and effort to create these.

    And if you really love the videos, consider becoming a Patron:

    This series of videos is not intended as tutorials, even though I occasionally do some explaning when I think it is worth it, but they are intended as a demonstration of the capabilities of the PMDG 737-700 for Microsoft Flight Simulator and what it can look like when being flown by a professional pilot.
    I'll be closing this introduction by saying that I'm not a professional TH-camr or Streamer and these videos are my very first that actually get more than a hundret clicks. I have never before created such content so bear with me for doing beginner mistakes.
    I record straight from the sim without any fancy stuff going on in the background.

    Very good landing, You landed it like the real one. I feel that this plane have his own accurate physics and ground model. Amazing.

    So interesting to hear your reasoning and what you take into consideration when deciding on which airport would be most suitable for diversion. I also loved to hear how you mistakenly used the "two blue one read, engines dead" callsign 😂

    Nice demonstration and nice video.
    But what I would like to note, Germania had a base in Bremen, where the planes were also serviced there.

I flew in and out of gravel runways up North, FO was very busy with bleed configuration for takeoff and landing. FO was busy with manual weight and balance and making TOLD cards on each leg. Enjoy the new stuff buddy, it’s fantastic equipment.

    Emanuel, sag mal, wie lange fliegst du schon in der Airline als aktiver Pilot? Das ist einfach immer und immer wieder so krass beeindruckend mit welchem umfangreichen Wissen die Leute im Cockpit sitzen. Wieviele Themen so verinnerlicht sein müssen. Ich meine... die ganzen Themen rund um Luftrecht, Flugzeugarchitektur, technische Feinheiten und Zusammenhänge der Technik (zb. while Eng start packs off) alles in allem zu berücksichtigen, dann noch alle Systeme zu monitoren.. dazu noch Funk, mögliche Meldungen EICAS.. Checkliste, ich komm da einfach nicht drauf klar. Ich bin selber seit ich 18 bin am FSX und bin immer noch überwältigt wieviel man allein in der NGX wissen muss und wenn man online fliegt. Und wenn ich hier die Videos sehe ist das schon mit einem Schmunzeln anzusehen wie "leicht" das wirkt.. Wieviel einfach in "real" zu tun ist. Unermüdend beeindruckend!

      In meiner jetzigen Airline seit 2018. Ja, es ist eine Menge, aber man hat ja auch eine super Ausbildung absolviert. Pilot zu sein heißt niemals auszulernen. Sein Leben lang wird man fortgebildet, sei es durch Simulatortraining oder durch Seminare. Das hat auch definitiv seinen Sinn.

    Amazing videos, I love how in-depth you're going with the systems and procedures, the exact kind of content I was hoping for regarding such a high complexity aircraft! Also, I was just curious, is there a specific reason why you speak to the ATC with a stronger accent? I'm not used to hearing the ATC in Europe so that's why I'm asking! Thanks and hope to see more videos!! You're doing an amazing work!!

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mmh, no reason that I can think of. I guess it's just being used to it from work.
      I do notice that when I'm flying over the UK i usually speak with a british accent, in Maastricht airspace with a slight Dutch one.
      In flight simulation it kinda averages out a bit.

    Great video again, thanks! If you make another failure video, would you mind showing how you set it up?

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think I might rather make a seperate video about it at some point.
      That video could be used also to explain how to pick "your failure", which systems you have to fail for it, etc.
      For example for the manual reversion video you can not just select "Manual Reversion" from the failures menu. Instead you have to choose: Either you fail all hydraulic pumps (seperately) or you can also let the reservoir run empty. Which is the better choice for your scenario?
      Explaining all of this would very well be a video of its own.

    • @Ronald9540
      @Ronald9540 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@A330Driver such a detailed video would certainly be fantastic!!! I really hope there are options to set random failures as well, to test my awareness to something unexpected (I'm pretty new to flight simming, so i have no experience with such detailed planes)

    heyyy you did an excellent work on this wonderful plane, I was waiting so much for the 737 to arrive at mfs2020 can you predict about the price when it drops? and will it only be 737-700 or also the bigger version of the 737 so 737-800?

      @A330Driver  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Is navigating via Airways using VOR's acceptable in Europe? Then take care of problem at destination, since not an emergency (this is how aircraft navigated prior to 1990)

    Hello, thank you for your very interesting videos. I have a small question concerning the failures: are they random and linked to bad manipulations or with low probabilities, where are they necessarily created by the pilot?

    • @A330Driver
      @A330Driver  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can program failures to occur either based on the air frames service life, by chance (you can set the percentage yourself) or you can directly trigger certain failures from the FMCs failure menu.

      All aircraft I know of (even the Airbus) have navradios where you can tune the frequencies outside of the FMC. As source of the data simply use the approach chart, it's all on there. We do that even when the FMC is still working.
      The LOC and GS modes of the Autopilot work independant of the FMC. Both Localiser and Glideslope are ground based radio signals. The aircraft does not need an FMC to process those.
      Basically, when both FMCs fail you only loose LNAV and VNAV modes. The rest of the Autopilot functions is not based on FMC data and therefore still available for use.
