That spec with the painted shield looks fantastic. So far I have never seen a badly-specced Pista, and the styling suits Spider form really rather well. And this thing is devastatingly fast. Terrifyingly so.
The Pista is best supercar of the las two or tree decades!! If you drive it at the limit with the electronic aids turned off, it's one of the most fun and aggressive cars ever made! It's nothing like the 488 GTB!
The V8 Ferraris have been getting worse looking ever since the F430, this included. The F430 added some edges to the 360's curves and looks like a baby Enzo to a degree - after that, aero dominated style.
On British roads with speed cameras, horses, high hedges, blind bends, tractors, potholes, cyclists, geese etc etc you are rarely going to be able to red line cars like this in anything above second gear, third at most. And with power like that the fun will be over in very very few seconds. So for non track cars things like sound, feedback, balance and beauty become more important than sheer performance.
Yes - the dangers you describe make your comment true in the States as well. For most of us, it is about the overall aesthetic, which as you say is "sound, feedback, balance and beauty". My AMG S63 Cab is the same - from time to time it is possible to open it up, but mostly it is about cruising in a phat ride.

Yes. My Ferrari is 36 years old. 270 bhp manual. I’ve renewed the suspension. It’s fast enough and handles nicely. It’s inexpensive to run. It cost £31k and it now worth £38k. It’s wonderful on country lanes as it’s narrow. Chris Harris has one. It’s a 1988 Mondial 3.2QV Coupe. Chris has the Cabriolet version. Ferrari are making the same error as BMW, making each successive model more ugly than the last, but that looks lovely, especially in that colour...the Yellow stripes not to my taste though.
The 488 Pista is absolutely gorgeous, but it is not the last pretty Ferrari. That honor goes to the 296 GTB which is a stunningly beautiful car in the flesh!
A mate brought one of these over and I took it for a rip on my favourite road. Was frankly a bit too fast to really enjoy in my first drive, made a GT3 feel completely pedestrian. But was it more fun? No way.
I love the Ferrari 488 Pista. It´s one of my favourites cars ever made. I collect it in 1:64 scale and I try to buy all the colors that are available. All color combos fit with this beauty
You know, that bit at the end with the "It's certainly a great car! But perhaps not so raw" or not so fun even, is my problem with modern supercars I love them of course, but all of them just give the feeling that, they are no longer driving machines, they are modern, insulated trophies for how wealthy you are, so you no longer buy a Ferrari, go to a mountain road and DESTROY the mountain road. You instead buy a Ferrari, and cruise arround towns running errands and take photos of it for your IG :) And the same happens with 911s now, I feel like Super Cars have become too capable and too good for the normal world, so unless you are at a race track, they aren't so fun. So to me, I have looked into Sports Cars for my PEAK driving experience. Namely, cars like the GR 86, Cayman and even though this crosses the line as a trophy: the 911 GT3s and S/T. Not to say I wouldn't want a Super Car, but they just aren't the same anymore 🤔
If things keep going the way they are then I think Lewis might be thinking that as well; Mercedes has made gains the last few races at Ferrari's expense.
Epic was 458 NA. All the new turbo cars not sure. The sound of the NA made the hair on your back stand. You are driving Ferrari for the experience . You are not tracking the car, worrying about winning DE nor are you taking the car to the drag strip. The extra power and torque of the turbos is irrelevant. 458 all day everyday or even for more raw feeling get a 430. Beauty is subjective and the clean lines of 458 beats the newer cars.
I just got the 488gtb and i really love it besides all the lights come up because of a weak battery all of a sudden😂 everyone said its a ferrari thing but coming from an audi r8 v10 plus i was thinking all sportscars where "perfect" as it
Good review but the conclusion is totally dumb, OFC a GTB is the same for this type of shy dynamic drive, you need to push harder to realize the difference, and only then you will that there's indeed a gap between the two!
That feeling when you own a coupe whose looks are ruined by a front number plate but you put up with it because you don't want to be 'that person' who thinks rules don't apply to them, and then you see Ferraris reviewed on JayEmm with no front plate. Yeah... It's a lovely car I'm sure but the owner's attitude already annoys me just for that so I won't be watching this one.
Just a shame the exhaust note lacks the scintillating highs of the 458 Speciale. Ferrari can do all the work they like, but nothing beats the drama of natural aspiration and at this level, outright performance surely takes less value than sheer drama and history within the Ferrari cannon.
The big question is...how many minutes of driving before it has to be towed to the dealership? The second big question is...will it break down before the end of the video?

Even though I wasn't keen on the 296 at first I now think the 296 is stunning. It is more feminine/curvy than the Pista, far less aggressive but the sound is amazing and it is far quicker.
Nah, the 296 looks way too much like a McLaren. Switch the badges and you would barely notice a difference. As for the looks it's alright. Doesn't strike me. And it has the wrong engine. People only like it because of how fast it is, yet uncontrollable everywhere outside a highway.
Love these! One of my favourite modern Ferraris. And, as you say, the styling fixes the few things that are wrong with the 488's looks. The Pista is one of my dream cars.
Best looking sub $1MM modern Ferrari. SP 1/2 are even more special but that a very different price bracket:

Am I the only one who think the idea behind a huge "458 Pista Spider" metal badge on the dashboard? It's not like I am going to need to be reminded what car I am sitting in, am I?
Going to have to disagree with you strongly on the looks of the 12 cylinder Jay. I thinks it’s beautiful. Elegant and simple. Free of stupid ducts and canards.
Aesthetic is always a matter of taste. In my opinion, the 12 cilindri berlinetta is the ugliest Ferrari twelve cylinders ever. Pininfarina will be regretted for ever
I find F12 to be really messy in design. Front-end does not play with the design of the center, and back-end seems like they tucked on whatever they found and added that weird center design on rear bumper. 12 cilindri uses same design elements throughout the whole body.
I understand your feeling on the GTB & the Pista not being different enough BUT it's all in the name ; Pista This is a track car, and thats where the difference is actually pretty big. There's a 21 second difference on the nurburgring, 2 seconds on fiorano, 4 seconds on anglessey... Indeed you wont find the difference in grip, downforce etc on the road. Another fine video mate !🎉
The 488 was built on the same chassis as the 458 so Ferrari didnt have redo all the crash testing. The upgraded the suspension and replaced the N/A V8 with a turbo V8, changed the styling a bit and called it a day. The 488 is life cycle refresh (as some would call it)
Can people stop talking about fecking 488s please. I have just started thinking about getting one and now they're getting los of attention. Can't you all go back to praising the 458!?!??!!
not sure on the IKEA spec personally but each to their own. These are fantastic, fantastic cars indeed, and I think there is hope for normal folk to eventuall own one. The same 20-30 pista coupe cars have been sloshing about on autotrader for the last 2 years, none of which have sold, which tells me that eventually the price will drop. Amari sold a very lovely black one recently and within 3 months it was back on the market again for the exact same price which is odd. It also appears that no one has actually driven one, given the milage average on AT being so bloody low. It such a shame, go out there and drive your ferraris people!
Jay I feel like you’re fairly skeptical of a lot of new designs and with time I really think the 12 cilindri will grow on you. I think it’s absolutely beautiful, the black cladding is off putting at first but I think it will become its calling card over the years.
Pista is the best car I’ve owned. Feels mega special and I would say very engaging so disagree with your comments. Best looking Ferrari too. Basically you feel like the king.

Even though I wasn't keen on the 296 at first I now think the 296 is stunning. It is more feminine/curvy than the Pista, far less aggressive but the sound is amazing and it is far quicker.
@@JayEmmOnCars Oh I don't think so Jay.
It’s a bit silly but the logo looks nice
Going to have to disagree with you strongly on the looks of the 12 cylinder Jay. I thinks it’s beautiful. Elegant and simple. Free of stupid ducts and canards.
Aesthetic is always a matter of taste. In my opinion, the 12 cilindri berlinetta is the ugliest Ferrari twelve cylinders ever. Pininfarina will be regretted for ever
@@UmbertoNacamuli guess we’ll just have to agree to disagree 😊👍
12 Cylindri looks aweome, very pure design.
Yess@@neiladam2832
I find F12 to be really messy in design. Front-end does not play with the design of the center, and back-end seems like they tucked on whatever they found and added that weird center design on rear bumper. 12 cilindri uses same design elements throughout the whole body.
You're so so soooo wrong about the upcoming 12 cylinder that I had to watch the Pista review twice.
Wrong how?
@@JayEmmOnCars IMHO, it's beautiful and honors the 71-72 era Daytonas in spectacular fashion! I love it!
He's not wrong, he just has a different view from yours.
I understand your feeling on the GTB & the Pista not being different enough BUT it's all in the name ; Pista
This is a track car, and thats where the difference is actually pretty big.
Quickest turbo ever! Porsche 912.2 GTS with E-Turbo Hybrid...... HOLD MY BEER!
"Number fetishists" ...😂 I thought it was only in my head happening. I am not alone!😂😂😂
Thank you Jay for the video!
The pista solved the aesthetics problems of the standard 488.....
For a mere double the price 😂😂😂
Well done ferrari
The 458 looks better than the 488, but the Pista looks better than the 488 and Speciale. I’d still go for the Speciale
Jay I feel like you’re fairly skeptical of a lot of new designs and with time I really think the 12 cilindri will grow on you. I think it’s absolutely beautiful, the black cladding is off putting at first but I think it will become its calling card over the years.
Love the way Italians love and support their Italian car makers.
Germans will always support VW group or Merc engineering.
Pista is the best car I’ve owned. Feels mega special and I would say very engaging so disagree with your comments. Best looking Ferrari too. Basically you feel like the king.
Interesting colour scheme. Not in a good way
Vastly overvalued imho
The sound, or lack of sound should be taken care of..
The exhaust noise isn't special enough for me.
Wonderful car overall, no doubt!! But I don’t like how they designed the S duct. It looks fugly….😢
How is the driving position? I'm not sure if its the camera angle but looks like you could headbutt the top of the windscreen whilst braking?
Nice spec 458 is the one all day. Looks "value" and performance. 458 is peak modern Ferrari style wise.
What a superb spec tantalizing me with an emotional outburst. I am lusting over this and I have a Pista coupe in Scuderia red...!
That is one extremely sexy automobile. There’s no way you can get out of it and not keep looking back at it. Thank you for sharing.👍👍👍
