A note for rainmaker: the rainmaker holder paints a lot and doesn't build special. If the game is stuck, feeding easy turf to paint over to the enemy is a sure way to get shredded by a barrage of specials. This happens a lot on Port Mackerel notably.
I've always noticed that the special charge a little over time, but I never knew the conditions, I honestly thought that it was consistent in every situation- this was quite enlightening
I noticed there was special charging up for no reason, and I assumed it was cuz the enemy held zone or had the rainmaker or whatever I just didn't know the specs
1:24 So _that's_ why I hate tower control, lol. I'd always have games where it feels like we're dominating for the whole game only for the enemy team to do a 180 at the last possible second, and I guess this is why
Yeah tbh its kinda dumb that you can be as much as 1 point behind the other team with still 3 minutes on the clock and then be able to build a pretty huge special lead and using it to snowball for at least 1 or 2 teamfights, ive never liked comeback mechanics tbh they should be heavily reduced or just completely absent when the lead is small, otherwise you just get some situations like “win more by losing” or stuff like that, ofc their effect is not as noticeable in a game like splatoon because of its naturally high volatility compared to like Arsene in Smash Ultimate, that mechanic is absolutely busted and unfair it just turns so many even or otherwise fair matchups in completely unfavorable for the other character because you didnt / couldnt manage to kill him before he could actually activate Arsene so now he actually gets a huge lead with both damage, kill power and huge hitboxes along with also slightly improved frame data thx to the extra hitbox adding more hit and shield-stun. 💀 So yeah in other words i prefer Tower Control because youre actually getting rewarded by pushing tower instead of playing passively despite the snowbally nature of it, and tbh all other modes should also either have it removed or give a bonus to the actually attacking team, and then just have the map geometry favor the defending side instead of both. So yeah TL;DR: Screw comeback mechanics they encourage passive play and sometimes you can take advantage of them by like stalling to build a special when youre losing by very little points to build a huge special lead and then completely destroy the disadvantage for like at least 1 or 2 fights. 💀
Like imagine youre 2 points behind from KOing the other team while they are actually 1 behind with like a minute on the clock, youre unironically in an advantage because you can just build specials before going for the last push, tbh i think this only works for SZ but for every other mode since you can stop before a lead to build specials it just doesnt work (the mechanic i mean, it works for SZ because you cant abuse it there other than situational situations where youre retaking and the enemy team is wiped out and its like 1 point away from taking lead so you let them get lead [if its not too big on the clock] and then you cap right after so you have full passive special-build-up despite the very minimal point difference [which is also a lot bigger in case you didnt have a huge penalty while the enemy team did]), i wonder why not more teams just do stalling more often to take advantage of this, and i know its not always possible / or feasible to do but cmon, AT LEAST in some situations it should be possible.
I've been looking for this all the time. usually I realized that in TC, my special goes up when I'm riding the tower, and I don't know the situation in other modes. I never knew what keyword to type in order to search it, and then this video came out. your analysis is on point, simple, and quick, so I like it. thanks for explaining all of the special scenario Chara :D
Very helpful, thank you! I always knew there was a passive special charge but never knew when it activated. I just noticed my meter ticking up slowly by itself one day and thought "huh, that's kinda neat."
Funny how you asked a question and chara hearted it but didn’t respond it to lol lmao. Luckily you can just go in a Private Battle and test this with a friend or 2.
In regards to one of your previous videos where people don’t get on the tower because riding it is boring, I’m sure the special charge it gives is there to help incentivize riding the tower.
Tbh i like riding the tower, especially when im dodging all the bombs like crazy, hopefully others also take the inspiration from me especially when i have a weapon that is just completely useless on the tower and is better as a slayer option most of the time. 😂
Btw snowballing is when one or a few mistakes result in a huge disadvantage for the losing team such that they are unable to stop the winning team from leading.
3 year old comment, but i think i do understand the reasoning behind it. in order to push on tower control, you need at least one teammate on tower at any given time. since the best way to win is to push ahead of the tower's path before it reaches there, it essentially means one player can't contribute to team fights. rainmaker is similar to this, but in rainmaker you have a giant weapon of destruction and you're also much more mobile compared to the tower's set speed and path. (i'd also like to point out that TC isn't the only mode where passive charge can be given to the winning team, it occurs in clams too.) the passive charge is way too overtuned, but if it were reversed (with the defending team receiving passive special charge) i think attacking would frankly feel awful.
Honestly, in rainmaker it helps me after being splatted and enemy took it(rainmaker). After Respawning with Comeback and enemy push it charges inkjet a bit faster 😼(using octoshot)
I'm done. So last night I learn that in salmon run when you get attacked by a fly fish, there's an arrow pointing to where the fly fish is. And now i learn that there is passive charge for special! Why doesn't nintendo EXPLAIN THESE THINGS!!!!! Thank u for making these tutorials.
You have a power clam and they don't? Charge. You losing but you both have power clams? Charge. You losing and there ain't no power clams? Charge. That is indeed very simple.
I hope they improve all the special points for the weapons like the splat charger and the BPN gets a special nerf for the next splatoon 3 which I’m very excited
Have you made a video about inkjet (specifically what maps it's good on) yet? you often reference "inkjet maps", but I'm not sure which ones those are.
I thought I individually gained passive special just by holding a Power Clam regardless of game status. Looks like I'll have to pay closer attention to see what's going on specifically. Thanks for explaining Tower Control. The passive effect here is actually quite... frustrating. This mechanic is punishing to players that just try to rush the tower and force the enemies off. And there are a LOT like that in SoloQ.
I have a few questions about the passive charge. 1. Since you said all the numbers shown were examples from a 200 PFS weapon, does that mean the passive PFS/s is different for each weapon? (Ex. A weapon with a special cost >200 would gain slightly more passive PFS/s, and vice versa for specials
Just for clarification, do you know if this gain is percentage based where it'll always charge with a fixed percentage per second, or is it a fixed amount where specials with lower cost will overall charge faster with passive special gain?
Wow so I can be winning in tc and still gain a slight advantage over my losing opponents just by riding the tower?? That’s kinda crazy Its like getting a 100% when the highest points possible is 50/50%
Yes you can expose yourself on the tower and have a little boost, it's some kind of high risk, high reward. But not sure about the viability of this move if your opponents aren't all dead !
Welcome back to another episode of “key information splatoon 2 doesn’t tell you”
This is what we need
Someone explaining rank mechanics that the game doesn’t tell u about
Thank you for making this video
You can check out flc vods on twitch if you want to know everything about every mode.

Also, love the phases of the deep sea metro music lining up with the progression of the video chapters!
100% unintentional

In all my years in splatoon I’ve never known that you gain your special passively
I been playing for 2 months and knew it, but I just didn't know how it worked
Same. Im today years old. Now I don't have to run so much dang Special charge up.
@@XAEzl welcome to Splatoon ! Have fun 😃

Tower control is like rainmaker but slow and painful.
@@VGF80 and laggy
@@PrettyINCs ...yeah that too. Sometimes the tower just stops and then all of a sudden dashes like a son of a binch.

Wow. I never knew this. That’s a lot of detail!
Very helpful, I learned a lot from this!
It's weird that they give points to help when you win in tower control while every other modes gives point to the losing team.
It might be because of how slow the tower is?
Still, really weird
This makes sense, actually, considering how hard it may be to survive while on tower.
Although giving special point to all team instead of those teammates who are riding the tower is pretty much overkill
stingray

This is good! Now I can figure the perfect game plane of coming for a counter push. And how to prevent a counter push from the other team!
Fascinating. Another thing I haven't known until now.
This definitely helps with knowing how to change the game back into your favour.
THANK YOU. I couldn’t even find this info on the wiki

500+ hours into the game and I used to think it was an effect of special charge up.... Now I feel dumb lol

I totally forgot about passive special charge up until like, two days ago lol
I always get my special from passive special stuff like I’m always just a bit away from special and then I get it from passive special charge😂

I only knew about the clam blitz one 😭
Maybe I should pick the ball up more then
tenacity?
So say i use brella in tc. I do what i do, riding the tower and such. Would special charge up be useful? If so, how much is needed?
I dont use it but i wouldnt do more then 1 main
Just for clarification, do you know if this gain is percentage based where it'll always charge with a fixed percentage per second, or is it a fixed amount where specials with lower cost will overall charge faster with passive special gain?
its points for special that it gains on, not percent.
Lower points for special weapons/special charge will go faster.
interesting
How does double armor work? I keep seeing double armor comps and I was wondering what’s so good about them?
jus extra hp makes it hard to kill
I recently see a video of a solo q match against a quad armor team this is just ridiculous.
