I feel you on the painting/fighting thing. Before Dread released, I was playing Nova and Luna. When I played Luna, I always got upset that my teammates weren't painting more so I could fight; when I played Nova, I always got upset that my teammates weren't going and killing the guys I was shooting at/marking. I feel like Dread gave me the best of both worlds lol.
typically nintendo follows a pattern of the first two kits of a weapon being a more aggressive oriented playstyle and a supportive playstyle. Since I'm pretty sure dreads current kit is the more aggro play style kit its only looking up from here as its next kit will hopefully actually suit the weapon in that it will the be more supportive kit
I’m in agreement that a different kit is all dread needs to be good. Going from Range to dread feels like night and day because you just play similarly and all of a sudden you blink and everything is your colour.
I’ve never touched this weapon outside of salmon run but man it’s a killer weapon. It shreds hoards of salmons and does awesome damage. It was in the rotation that got me to 999 and I loved it.
no reticle no ink tank popping up when he swims the sloshes don't 100% follow the camera and once i noticed these i checked for a name in the bottom left. I'll nerd emoji myself now 🤓🤓🤓🤓
Nah, that's almost too good!😂 that kit is like THE kit that every weapon wants, so it should be reserved for particularly underwhelming main weapons, like undercover Brella or L3
The one complication is idk if they're gonna give ink storm to a THIRD slosher. The only weapon class to get the exact same special three times is shooters with crab. Storm would 100% be the most fair and maybe best special for it besides cooler, but I don't know if it's particularly likely.
I could see it being a solid Screen weapon, You have a large damage hitbox so the Special won't cause a lot of problems and enemies can't walk through it due to fear of a one shot. We'll definitly see more weapons get the Special given how new it is and Dread seems like a perfect fit.
@@sonicrunn3r895 this is one of the reasons I don't think we'll get charas fabled splat bomb kraken kit. There aren't enough blaster weapons in the game to justify having more than two of the same sub on a weapon in that class and unfortunately both clash and luna already have splat bomb
Suction probably isn’t bad on dread it’s just slider is… slider. If only splatoon devs would remember slider is an actual special in this game and make it good
Would love to see Dread get Torpedo/Point Sensor as it's bomb and then a good support special like Ink Storm/Cooler. Could see it being a very good support weapon that would slot right into any comp. Crab would also be a solid special for it.
I'm gonna just say: As a community we need to experiment with new mains in the game a lot more before writing them off. Granted it's a more extreme example than Dread but Snipewriter's dominance came out of nowhere shortly after being buffed and a meta change, but before that being considered complete bottom tier. And then everyone realising Dread was extremely underrated as a main just because of not being range and having reefslider. I am just kinda glad we at least recognised this before it'll likely get its second kit revealed in a few weeks (going by previous patterns of the new weapons), but even still. This should be somewhat of a lesson for the last 4 main weapons we get (dualie, brella, splatana and stringer, maybe discount the stringer tbf) to at least give them more of a chance to show their strengths before dropping them into the mid-low tier abyss.
Given the history of second kits... yeah this thing is gonna get a passive NON bomb sub and a passive special cause most kits either have one bomb/one passive and same for specials being aggressive/passive. Also tri exists for cooler and we know it's at 210p so they clearly don't want a high farming cooler with a bomb and one of the best painters in the game.
@@Dula8207 yeah s blast is kinda weird. booyah is kinda of like the epitome of a supportive special to me and burst bomb is the epitome of an aggro sub to me so its kind of like a support-aggro hybrid. But they did ultimately fuck up its first kit so they owed us its second kit
@@Dula8207 Not really. The general trend seems to be giving a passive sub and an aggro special or the opposite. With obvious exceptions being an aggro sub and an aggro special or a passive sub and a passive special. Sprinkler was a passive sub while slider was an aggressive special. Burst is an aggressive sub but booyah is a passive special at the very least in comparison to slider.
Ive been playing Dread well before this video, and hell, even more, you said you picked it up, but ive always enjoyed using this weapon. Its one of my favorite weapons to use.
5:27 Counter argument: the trade-off isn’t actually a loss of a player AND a special because Reefslider is so bad that it’s as if you don’t have a special to begin with, so really you’re only losing the player.
I played this weapon quite a bit when it first came out. Except I played a bit of a different build. I wouldn’t call myself a top tier so I never built a QR build for it instead opting for a run speed survivability build with the main purpose of painting on moving quickly to avoid enemies. I run a main and 2 subs of run speed and I found it was enough to usually trip up enemies when engaging in a fight. And then making sure I don’t run out if Ink since I use suction a lot so I used ink recovery and qsj stealth jump to get back in after a fight. Like I said probably not effective at high levels of play but you gotta use what works best for you that’s something I find a lot of people don’t do they just copy what top level players use but don’t understand the builds fully because that’s what works best for each individual pro. I enjoy my current build but might look into trying something else based on what you talked about
Normally I hate playing slow weapons,, but Dread feels like a bit of an exception. I’m not very good with it at all, but it’s still fun to play. If it gets a decent aggressive kit (Torpedo/Booyah Bomb would go kinda crazy IMO) I definitely might consider picking in up more seriously.
Dread wringer might honesty be my favorite main in the game, just give it an interesting kit and im sold Or yaknow make dynamo usable but thats way less likely
I had trouble using this weapon as I never can get the second slosh to work as there is nothing visually that indicates that the second slosh is coming. It is hard to spread your sloshing around perfectly at 2 targets.
I think Burst/Cursling + Wave Breaker would be a good kit Curling for the mobility because the weapon is very slow or burst because it can combo with 1 slosh but i'm afraid that it will be too strong so i prefer curling. Wave breaker for the same reason than burst. What do you think ?
I feel like Dread would've been a fantastic weapon in Spla2n, while in Splat3 it's just... Okay. Not bad, there are weapons screwed over by 3's mechanics and specials much more, like Dynamo and Luna and even some new stuff like Painbrush, but overall it's just out of its element a bit. If 4 goes back to more compact and urban maps again it'll thrive.
Reefslider Trade or damage if you’re lucky or do nothing or die and do nothing. there is no in-between. Zones cheese is just a cherry on top of a slab of cardboard in terms of viability for competing against other specials in this game. Pencil, as a main weapon, IS zones cheese, you can just paint half of any map with 2 to 3 charges, AND you don’t instantly die after doing it. Reefsliders value is extrinsically tied to its explosion, which needs to be inside the enemies position to be valuable, and combined with endlag, you are going to die because you are in said enemy position all the while being highly telegraphed
It's funny, basically everything you said about this weapon sounds like how I describe Reeflux, with the exception of some AoE stuff. It paints a ton by accident, it's really good at doing 90, it can do tricks to spread its hitbox out, it has an easy time just moving around the map, it wants other teammates that just consistently do damage. Basically everything you said applies to Reeflux. That is until you started talking about Reefslider. At that point you're talking about Reeflux Deco, and all the downsides you talked about generally apply to it to. Vanilla Reeflux has the entry tool special that solves all those positioning and kit problems you talk about. I think it's kinda demonstrative of what you're saying about the potential of Dread's second kit towards the end of the video.
@@QwertyS3 I could lowkey see it happening with dread idk why. it's not that easy hitting the second slosh with dread so it wouldn't just be free combos everytime
Do you think that dread being a high paint bucket makes expo even less relevant? Or does Expo just need a kit that plays to its strengths? It seems like the basic concept of explo is kinda weak in this meta. It is much easier to hit a dread 90 than an explo 90. Movement is much easier on dread. I kinda fear that explo is irrelevant.
I know this is off topic but I know last resort has disbanded and gone its separate ways but I am curious. Do you still lay with them for fun? Or have they retired all together? I would hope you still keep in touch with them because you guys had chemistry. If not I assume you mostly grind it out solo now? I have been wanting to get myself in the scene the better I am getting with Splatoon 3 but I don't really know anyone either. Got any resources for an old squid looking to get back into things?
@@ProChara I'd agree for turf war when you have to be moving around a lot, but I find it very effective in zones when you only really have to go through the startup once to contest zone because you're able to stay in a safe, far away spot with its long aoe range. Wave breaker is very easy to get and toss out too when the ink tank does run out, and since one painbrush swing paints so much more than a couple shots of a shooter or something like that, you can somtimes down your swings and still out-paint your enemies to remain ink efficient. Sometimes I find myself capping zone with a couple of swings on maps with smaller zones.
