    Great points, Fernando. I have been 100% iPad Pro since 2019. Just got my 1TB M4 13 inch and it is a beast. I hear the arguments from the majority, but from my perspective, the simplify of iPadOS actually allows me to be more productive. A few years ago, we had to develop a lot of workarounds, now, there is no function I used to do with MacBook that I cannot accomplish on my iPad.

    I've never understood why people want an ipad to just be exactly like MacOS. Kind of defeats the purpose of being the ultimate hybrid device imo.
    If you are willing to open your mind a bit more and realize you can accomplish the same things they just require a slightly different approach, then you might find yourself perfering it over MacOS.
    For me personally, the ipad is Apples' best device, hands down. But I understand at the same time it's not for everyone.

    As a UX designer, merging macOS and iPadOS would be nearly impossible due to the different interaction models of touch and mouse input. Apple is already achieving something incredibly difficult by delivering advanced functionality within a fully touch-supported UI and design patterns. Trying to balance both would introduce conflicting user experiences and compromise both platforms.

    The iPad's horrendous files app is what kills it as a productivity tool. If all you need to do is web stuff it's fine but the moment you need to import/export files everything falls apart.

  • @Andy-rc9db
    @Andy-rc9db 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I don’t disagree with your specific thesis: the iPad is good for productivity because it forces you to focus on the thing in front of you. Fine. I get that. I enjoy that about the iPad also. That, however, is no excuse for the severe limitations in file management, the inability to natively manage multiple audio feeds, and the lack of true multitasking. It is, frankly, ridiculous that on the supposed powerhouse which is the M4 iPad Pro, I’m unable to render a video in the background while I, say, browse with Safari.
    And so, for me, it’s important to understand what the iPad is (from a design/philosophical standpoint) and where there are true gaps which, frankly, should have been addressed years ago.

    Sometimes I think that the majority of the people whining about iPad OS do it because they see some TH-camrs whining about it. They don't know why they don't like it but they do because they're not supposed to like it.
    I preordered the iPad 9.7" in 2010, preordered the iPad Mini 2012, Preordered the iPad Pro 12.9" in 2015. Now use the iPad Pro 12.9" 5th Gen. It does everything I need with ease. The day they announce the iPad Pro 15" or 16" I'll be preordering that one. I don't have a problem with the last few versions of iPad OS. Works perfectly for me. I see people always complaining about the file system being hard to use and I just don't get that. I find it very easy to use and it works perfectly. In some ways I find it easier than MAC OS file system. Do I want more things in the OS, of course, everybody always does. But I'm not dissatisfied with what we already have in any manner.

      It's hands down the best hybrid device experience imo. Everyone who has tried to do a hybrid device makes it desktop based, which has been a horrible experience. It's not perfect, but the balance it strikes between a great tablet experience a solid desktop alternative as an in an on the go laptop when needed is great.

    Here’s the thing, it’s not that I would want the full form macOS on the iPad Pro, but I think apple should gear the iPad towards an actual “desktop mode” and then a “tablet mode” that iPadOS already is. Stage manager is very nice, I use it pretty often too but it ain’t nearly enough for it to replace an actual Mac or windows computer with and it will continue to hold the iPad back no matter how powerful apple makes it.

    I have been using an iPad Air as my "second" computer for years. I also have a Mac Mini M1. I have the iCloud Drive and Desktop and Documents Folders set on (in the iCloud settings) This keeps a synched copy of all my iCloud files in the Library -> iCloud folder. I then use Time Machine AND a macOS app called Get Backup Pro to keep ALL my data (including photos and videos) backed up using two different methods.
    I have recently upgraded to an iPad Air 6 13" and love it. There are only two things that prevents the iPad becoming my main computer: the Files app (I'd like it to be more like Finder) and the lack of iPad based backup. I'm reluctant to trust iCloud as my only source of backup for my only computer when it's an iOS device.
    I would be really interested if you could address these issues (tell us how you manage these tasks) in a future video.
    Thanks for your content!
    Regards,
    Peter

Being able to run macOS equivalent plugins in Logic Pro. Having a working IDE from companies like pycharm or Microsoft. I think it’s more leaning in further, creating more momentum with 3rd parties.

    I love the ipad for some things. I love the mac for other reasons. The reason why I would like to see a hybrid is because I can cart around 1 computer versus 2 (ipad and macbook). I would love to see the ability for going into different systems just like mac used to do with mac and windows options in bootcamp. I don't want ONLY Mac on the ipad, I want ipados AND macos to allow dual booting so I can carry around ONE machine. I would even buy the overpriced mac memory in order to do that. IT is all about the convenience of one machine versus debating if I should bring my mac or ipad or both on trips outside my home and office. I love apple and we have the technology to make this happen. For those who don't want to use macos on their ipad as well can just not use it or install it if that is an option.

    I love my iPad Pro m4 . Still I cannot use it professionally . I love some of the new functions of the Apple Pencil Pro , the apps for design are great but file management is tedious , no plugins for logic , not an extra port … still I owe a m2 iPad Pro 12.9 (2tb)inches and decided to buy a new 11” m4 iPad Pro with 1tb and the main advantage is the portability of the 11” . I do all the things I can do in the 12.9 and it is much better to carry around and hold in my hands . In fact I think , after trying all those , a MacBook Air 13” makes more sense rather than the 13” iPad , at least according to my portability use and pro apps . I am not a huge fan of FCP for iPad . I preferred Da Vinci or LF

    I think it's a very silly take to say that iPad should be a single app device and that's why we dont want MacOS on an iPad. Easy multi-tasking is what makes a modern computer a great computer, especially for power users. And the iPad is far from a device that can easily multi-task. I would be happy with iPadOS if it had a proper windowing system and a more robust Finder.
    I was so hopeful for iPadOS 18 before they unveiled it as a disappointing upgrade. It's the reason why I bought a Surface Pro 11 instead of the iPad Pro M4 while my desktop computer is a Mac Mini.
    The wait continues, maybe iPadOS 19 will make it better.

      And then, pay up to five times more for my music apps and other programs/plugins???
      I don’t see the “value” of the surface, very good tablet but even more expensive and I don’t like windows.
      IOS or Android are much simpler to use and get anything done that I want or need.

      And no, the Surface does not blow the Ipad out of the water, maybe for your way of using it but for most people not.

    I always enjoy your content but I have to say this video is way off the mark and short sighted. It’s wonderful that the iPad works for your workflow but I don’t think your workflow represents the average user. I don’t believe the apps you outlined fit your title of ‘powerhouse’ like a CAD program or graphics rendering program does. Touting the lack of true multitasking as a feature has to be a joke. Having an issue with distractions is a separate topic of managing your own focus vs removing the feature to force focus. It’s always better to have the option and not use it. In my workflow I must view a PDF, excel and sometimes Onenote all at the same time on my PC, the iPad misses the mark, and I own the M4. I’m fine with iPadOS being a touch first designed OS but it’s not on parity with Windows or MacOS.

  • @jdtransformation
    @jdtransformation 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Totally missing the point: We don't need MacOS... we just need *reasonable* capability on the iPad. Example: Just today on my M4 iPad Pro, I wasn't able to change text size/color inside the Apple Notes app!! Something easy to do on the MacOS version. There's some hacks to change visibility of an entire app - but totally lack ability for individual text. As a result, I had to lug my MacBook Pro in addition to my iPad... WTF! There's no reason to *remove* functionality like this, but again-and-again you just keep running into things you can't do on the iPad... so much so I (as a professional) can't trust that this crazy-powerful device can always handle even the simplest of workflows. It's so f'n annoying, IMHO...

      Download from where? You can certainly download apps in the background. Surely anything else you could leave open in a window and let it download in the background. And clearly iPad OS can support background operations and downloads, I found the developer instructions on how to enable it in a few seconds searching online. All the stock Apple apps I tested just now on my iPad mini 6 downloaded things in the background. Can you give any more specifics on your scenario?
