    Cedh for me is “on the stack, Mindbreak Trap”

    A casual game is played on the table state. A cedh game is played in the hand. The table state is just an indication of what is in your hand.

    Cedh annoys me a bit bc there is so much played on the stack. Games are pretty samey fighting over a draw engine, play as many tutors as you can, and go for the best wins in the format. Sometimes thats fun, but there are times when you want to turn off your brain and play some landfall lol.

    Edh is fun first, winning doesnt matter to u ur just playing funny cards or tribal. High power is somewhere in the middle, super efficient commanders like kalia, Edgar markov, johda etc where ur beating the crap out of janky decks but do nothing vs the cedh meta.
    Cedh has an actual tournament meta and competition, high power are just good cards you like playing

    Let me clean up my first comment and put it like this. This is simple;
    You are trying to define cedh when the literal rules of edh implicitly do that already.
    What needs to be defined is “casual” or “high power” or “mid power” and those aren’t real formats and don’t have actual definitions and so it’s near meaningless to talk about unless you are actually trying to define them. In which case maybe another format would have been helpful. Like “here is what we mean by high power as opposed to cedh”.

    Great content as always I just want to add my two cents;
    This topic is nebulous and hard to grock because it’s starting w a false premise. The false premise is that there is this thing called casual edh. There isn’t. It’s not a real format. What the actual format is ends up looking like cedh. This “other format” only exists in the minds of people who think they are playing “normal 🙄 commander”. But it doesn’t have rules (I mean it’s got “cedh” rules”) it doesn’t have actual form to it. I used to wonder how such a thing could exist and survive so long being basically a group hallucination but then I started going to different lgs’s and playing w different play groups and realized it already doesn’t really exist. You have 4 LGS’s? You’ve got 4 different fake formats w a bunch of people who all think they are playing the same one “not cedh” format. What I don’t understand is how that illusion can survive the experience of going to something like a command fest or something. But people are typically masters of self delusion and willful blindness.
    Make rules for “casual commander” or you are playing the same format as cedh players you are just not trying hard and playing really really bad decks.
    This would never happen in chess or basketball or soccer or really any other thing I know of. It’s super interesting to me. I don’t think there is anything wrong w it. I’m happy it continues to pretend to be “a thing” I just think it’s a bizarre anomaly. I keep waiting for it to fall apart like the house of cards it is but there is such a belief in “regular commander” it seems to persist 🤷‍♂️. More power to you people. Or less power to you 😉
