Born and raised in Frederick. Moved back about 7 years ago after living in MoCo and felt so happy to be back there. Was proud to be back .Fast forward to this year, we just moved to HoCo. When I was a boy there was a horse farm beside U MD in the 50s, and the trip from Bethesda to Rockville in the 60s was through farmland. Gaithersburg was a post office and a country store, no more.
In 75 we lived in Rockville. It was considered the best town to raise a family then. When we flew the coup, we started in Germantown because Rockville was too expensive for us and we wanted to be near the farms on Rt. 118. Then the farms were gone and sf homes started atound $350,000 so we moved to Frederick County to be surrounded by farms and trees. Our new house was $190,000. We could afford that and for 25 years we raised our kids here. Today, Frederick is turning into MOCO II. Sorry to say, but that mentality of DC Monty is infecting Frederick as they move there since it’s easy to commute (thanks, 270), and vote the same. Having lived in the area for about 23 years, its really sad to see Frederick making the horrible car-centric planning mistakes that every other city in America seems to be making. It is great to see that they are extending Carroll Creek though, that will be nice. I think the Brickworks neighborhood could be nice, but again, I see too many parking spaces, not enough green spaces, and yeah the style of architecture is horrid. Make it match all the beautiful brick and masonry in Frederick. Its crazy to have seen this small town turn into a city.

No plans for traffic increase, no attempt to compliment existing architecture, just too little in terms of infrastructure. Carroll Creek at least resembles a semblance conscious planning.
From reading many of these responses, I get the definite sense that many of you live in a nostalgia-addled fantasy, where you will only be happy if your surroundings remain exactly as they were when you were growing up as a child. The fact is that Frederick is growing fast and HOW it grows, not WHETHER it grows, should be our highest concern. We moved to the area when, to someone coming from another city/state, Frederick was distinctly quieter, slower-paced, and more pastoral than all destinations to the south along the 270 corridor. This to me was the best reason for living here. That's changed as the population has grown and continues to change, and to be honest, our moving here contributed to that growth. Therefore, it would be quite hypocritical for me (and anyone else who has moved here in the last 40-50 years) to issue blanket condemnation to all future development. Instead we need to be wrestling with HOW the development proceeds. For example, do we want to have a 30,000 unit Urbana-style development, where every square foot of space is packed with townhouses, directly adjacent to downtown Frederick, or something on a smaller scale that is designed to be complimentary to the existing character of the area? How much open space are we (as a community) willing to pay for, and fight for, in and around these new developments? How much tax advantage are we (again the engaged citizens of Frederick) willing to trade for ensuring that businesses locate and remain here and adhere to environmental regulations. All of these things have to be dealt with realistically. Falling back on the 'when I was a kid everything here was green and beautiful' sentiment will not help with these issues. There is no going back, only forward, and there are smart ways to do it.

Frederick County has a policy that there will be no bus routes if they live within 1-1/4 miles for elementary schools and 1-3/4 miles for middle and high.
Before the city of frederick spends another penny on growth, they need to fix the busted sidewalks downtown. Seriously, I have no idea how a person confined to a wheelchair can negotiate those streets.

There are plenty of opportunities elsewhere, including PA where I'm from and want to return to; big mistake not to have done that 25 yrs ago. I watch Peter Schiff, and he's predicting a destructive recession. Powell just gave WS a quick fix to promote Obama's re-olection and his own re-oppointment. I'm intrigued by the idea of speculating in just a handful of stocks. Unfortunately, the one I picked, CTAS, immediately wen parabolic and I missed it. WS has been celebrating the Obama win; hard to tell whether they will celebrate again when the Dems win or whether it will be a sell the news event. However, the Fed has been bailing out WS throughout the financial crisis that began in 1971. I know that Trump is a lifelong Dem, but the collapse of his campaign will destroy any chance Republicans can win Congress, for he is a Wrecker. The election is not close. Trump will be buried in a flood of harvested mail-in ballots. The Obamas are creating an authoritarian soviet-style people's republic. I agree with the 3/4 of the people who believe this country is broken, but I do not believe this is fixable. This country cannot lead the Free World. Other countries will have to figure it out. Trump is more likely to get shot than elected. I wrote a piece ten years ago called "Trump Triumphs at National Press Club." If he had done what he promised he would do, he would have been re-elected, but now he's just a failed apprentice, just like he failed at so many of his business adventures.
Overcrowded, congested, overpriced, ugly. Could these developers come up with an uglier design for these homes and buildings in general. Why ignore the cities history and historical architecture? When are developers going to learn modernist, minimalistic drab architecture has no appeal or charm. Not to mention homes will sell and resell for higher prices if they are of a more classic design that fits in with the surrounding communities architecture.
People need to stop voting for pro development county executives and council members. People are moving up from Montgomery County and are taking their crazy policies with them.

Im in Urbana...terrible NO school bus...
Thanks for this comment! I would love to see Frederick use some tax dollars towards this.
Been to frederick a few times its definitely lost it's charm over the past 4 years.
Hey thanks for commenting! I've seen big changes over the past 4 years, BUT because of the influx of new residents, we're seeing a lot more restaurants that are able to keep their doors open. If it weren't for Firestone's closing down, the downtown area would have a solid record the past few years!
#1 of garanteed smelling weed whenever you go anywhere
That’s what I’m afraid of, whenever I have to drive to PG county or NE DC I know I’m there when I smell skunk weed. It’s always the ghetto areas, so it’s scary to think I’ll have to be smelling it here.
Clean rooms are for semiconductor manufacturing, not for pharmaceuticals. Good video, thanks!
Thanks for the comment! These particular buildings are cGMP purpose-built buildings for bio manufacturing. Not semiconductors. It’s an expansion to the life sciences industry here in Frederick.
Ugh... moved here to get away from Montgomery county. Lord help us, please don't bring Montgomeries politics and traffic here too
They did that throughout the 90s. You just see the surface stuff. I was involved, civicly - and just threw in the towel 20 years ago. It IS like MontCo now.
SAME ..little did i know that all of germantown had the same idea
Sadly developers and the county are not taking schools into account with all the new developments
I talk about a new moratorium than can be used by the county in my most recent video: th-cam.com/video/Xs1ax9spYUM/w-d-xo.html
We can see by the number of Commenters - Frederick is not far behind Balt, at this point, and alotta folks realize it.
DR Horton LOL!
Hey thanks for commenting! I take it you don’t like DR Horton. They’ve had some pretty large projects in Frederick recently
Now more problems in Frederick MD
DR Horton is one of the worst builders in the country. Ryan homes isn't far behind. The 100 yr old homes in downtown frederick will long outlast the new builds
@@buttaman34 I love the late 19th century homes in Frederick. Especially those with enclosed entryways, they have a ton of character
I will be surprised if home prices are higher next year given we are heading into a recession or depression.
You mean like the depression we were supposed to have when Biden was elected, and then has been predicted by right wing pundits in the financial sector 24/7 since then?
@@mberk007 we would need a major catalyst for home prices in Frederick to decline. Inventory is still relatively low and rates are improving. If nothing changes we’d see healthy appreciation again.
I lived in Frederick for five years and hated the Frednecks.
Why is that? We are considering moving there… are the locals weird?
@@Akrus15 Exactly right, weird and nasty. I think Frederick is overpriced compared to any place but Washington.
No matter how much you vote and complain, your politicians always do the opposite of what you demand them to do. Because they work for ....you???
Overcrowded, congested, overpriced, ugly. Could these developers come up with an uglier design for these homes and buildings in general. Why ignore the cities history and historical architecture? When are developers going to learn modernist, minimalistic drab architecture has no appeal or charm. Not to mention homes will sell and resell for higher prices if they are of a more classic design that fits in with the surrounding communities architecture.
New homes look like they're built with leftovers from Lowe's.
The "charm" of Frederick is superficial. It is three blocks of G-town and otherwise overpriced tract housing.
Curious what towns have charm throughout every single street outside of their downtown district
People need to stop voting for pro development county executives and council members. People are moving up from Montgomery County and are taking their crazy policies with them.
Thankfully they have a moratorium they can use now to prevent school overcrowding. I cover it some in my recent video: th-cam.com/video/Xs1ax9spYUM/w-d-xo.html The question is, will they use it?
Hey Maryland, is great - except for taxes, woke Government, and being ordered around by PG and Montgomery Counties. Gee, I wonder why this wasnt built in Baltimore/ YOU KNOW WHY!
I would caution if you want a nice place to live.. DO NOT MOVE TO FREDERICKS MD... it will be a massive developer nightmare, crowded schools, crime, and not enough cops, schools, and HIGHER TAXES..
Progressive is good. Just avoid progressives.
Under the soviet Obamas allied with Hamas.
I hate that Montgomery County people are moving this way, they are brining that rudeness, and not so friendly attitude into Frederick. Stay in Montgomery County with your aggressive driving.
Do you know how many car accidents happened in Frederick County before people even began to move in big numbers???
Literally your whole entire comment is false. Your no better than the Frednecks who supported Mike Hough.
buying a tenth acre with a 2k sq foot home for 500k+? its laughable.
Trash houses being built. Another Montgomery County.
I'd love to see a builder today making houses with some old-growth timber like they used to!
Your dumb
