    Fair play if you can get away with it!
    Ive been working as an international your leader for over 20 ears and I have never asked for tips, nor would I recommend you do.
    I run a tips kitty for other staff and helpers throughout the trip which sets the scene. If you do a good job then tips will come your way.

    I have been a driver-guide for 15 years and have never asked for any tip or gratuity. If my tour is good people will tip, if it isn't they won't - their choice.

      Try to encourage just in the beginning by welcoming them to their tour. 😁 Of course, I believe you're more experienced than me. But it's always good to share knowledge in between our job.

      A lot of customers do not realize that this is a job where tips are expected for a job well-done.

    Some companies one may work for may not allow the word "tip" on the tour, including using the nickname 'Tip' , as in then saying " Hello, I'm Tip, Tip the Driver!" I think your advise to let your guests know ahead of time that they can ask questions and thank you at end of tour is perhaps better than using the word that to some means they have to. Yes, a good tour should get them also thinking of thanking you. If everyone just gave a dollar ( for shorter tours) it would be so great, but most must feel it must be better to give nothing than a mere dollar, which actually adds up! A token is MUCH better than nothing, ... but has to be conveyed just right to be effective. Some write out "Thank You!" In multiple languages

    Asking for the tip directly is not good. First of all we have to provide very good service to the tourists and rest is up to them.
    You can ask to them who are not coming from those countries where Tip is not a common practice.
    Thanks for the video.

    Tips is the worst thing in tourism industry , the travel agencies don't pay good wage to the tour guides and drivers and portier because the tourists will pay tgem tips ,, but the tourists don't pay good tipping

    Thank you, but most tour companies do not advice to ask for TIP, saying it is the interest of the guest? I am confused

    • @NickManningAuthor
      @NickManningAuthor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Asking for tips can sometimes have a bad reputation because a lot of people ask for them the wrong way. This is why some companies don't allow it.
      We should never pressure guests to give them tips, only educate them and then let them decide. I think asking and explaining tips can be helpful for both guides and clients, when done correctly. However if you work for a company that disagrees, then you should follow their advice - they're the employer, after all!!

    How about if you are a local guide and you spend only 2 hours with them?

    • @NickManningAuthor
      @NickManningAuthor  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Same concept - be up front and honest - if you want tips mention it at the start in a non-threatening way:
      "I'm really excited to do this tour for you. This is my job, and I love it. We are now going to walk from point A to Point B. The tour will finish in approx 2 hours time at Point C, where we will say goodbye and I will be available to receive gratuities, should you wish to give them. Tips are not compulsory, but I do appreciate them (wink) and I'll be working very hard to try to deserve them."
      ... or something similar.

    I would like to know that how to ask for a good score on evaluation

    • @NickManningAuthor
      @NickManningAuthor  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Best quick pieces of advice I can give is to:
      1. give good service,
      2. explain how important it is to get a good score for you
      3. explain that the score is just for you, and
      4. explain what each 'score' on the evaluation means.
      What I mean by those last two are there are a lot of people out there that might mark you down because the weather was bad, or they didn't like lunch, or whatever. If you explain that the score is specifically for your service, that will help. Then if you explain what your company expects a 10/10 score to represent, that will help too.
      eg. "If my service was above your expectations, if you found me engaging and entertaining, if I kept you safe and you would recommend me without hesitation to your friends... that would be 10/10. If you think I could have done better in any of those aspects, that would be 9/10 or below. Of course, if I did a terrible job, please mark me however you wish, or better yet come see me personally so I can learn how I can improve."

    It is a bad idea to ask for tips . If you deserve it people will give you without asking .

    Asking guest to have gratitude seems tacky and unclassy. Give them more than they expect and you'll be highly rewarded. The company should or could explain common tipping amounts but the employees shouldnt. Have higher integrity. 6:32

    • @NickManningAuthor
      @NickManningAuthor  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In my experience I've found that many people aren't aware of tipping or come from cultures where it's not practiced. Giving people more than they expect is 100% the right thing to do, but it still isn't a guarantee that you're going to get tipped. Asking for tips gives me more money at the end of the tour. It's as simple as that. Still, each to his / her own. If this doesn't work for you, ignore it! Choose the path that is best for you :)

    Sounds a little like begging.I have a good basic salary as an off and on tourguide and if they give tips its just great, if they dont, fine anyway.I had tours that went perfect but no tip and tours that i feelt less great but great tip.The company should pay you american guides a good basic salary so you dont have to worry about this.I can understand you but mentioning this like that wouldnt work for me i think..Local guides always get tips, thats important and i tell them to tip.If they give me just great but i dont have expectations.Work with swedish tourists in China

    to even mention tips is bad practice , tips are given anyway to good guides if not then begging for them is so cheesy and tactless

    • @NickManningAuthor
      @NickManningAuthor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a tough one. Begging for tips is bad - I totally agree. But some cultures don't understand tips, or how important they are. I think for those people, a gentle reminder that they're a part of your wage (I've done free tours, where i only got paid in tips!) and an explanation of how they work can be an appreciated and valuable service.
