You might try looking into satuma orange trees. I have one unprotected in the ground here in Virginia and our area is 7b and it’s been doing really well. In your coldest month(s) you can cover the tree with a frost blanket with incandescent Christmas lights on underneath to provide additional protection on cold nights. Plus the lights will have the added effect of looking festive because it’s usually during the holidays. The same method should work for your calamondins.
I think it is neat you live in Tennessee I live in Bristol, TN and I have had my own big calamansi plant growing for many years, probably over a decade. I am starting new ones from seeds too. I gave away the first seedling, and currently have two more. I love the flavor and tend to eat them whole occasionally, which is not too sour for me. But I also love making a sort of meringue pie out of it too. Love your video!
First tamsak here day, so yummy to see fresh calamansi, i wish to grow it here but can't survive in cold dutch weather, i might consider buying a green house to plant this
Thanks for the video, I thought this is clementine and mandarin together lol, but your face expression while you were eating made me understand I was very wrong. lol I just bought 1 today at lowes. I can't wait to see and taste it.
Fascinating. I see a number of reviews in western world not recommending calamondin but I am this year growing limequat and meiwa cumquat. It would be interesting to compare. I like sour.
I plant them in containers. I have regular lemons, calamondin, lime, and kumquats. We bring them indoor during winter. Calamondin is sour. , their size come handy if you only need a little bit.

Marie, I am so excited to find you. I too live in Tennessee, middle Tennessee. I bought one of these from Home Depot this spring for $70. She is a good size, she had several limes and lots of blooms. She has bloomed three different times I’ve only harvested three small green limes. Today I pulled off a yellow one. I have a sunroom and I’ll place the tree in there this fall. I wanted to make a key lime pie with the limes but I don’t think I’ll harvest enough at one time. Can I freeze the limes or the juice? Hope to hear from you soon. Enola
Hi! Glad you are enjoying your lime tree. You can freeze the lime juice, and freese the peels separately. Peels have nutrients as well. I wish i have a designated sunroom like yours. But we habe big windows in our spare bed room and living rom.
those faces you are making make me think it is not so good! I am in Tennessee, too. Antioch. I first learned about “calamondin orange” when I was in 4th grade and first getting interested in houseplants. i have a lemon and a meyer lemon I have grown from seed since 2014 or 2015 and almost killed a couple of times by letting them get too dry in the winter and they lost their leaves. i also started some kaffir lime trees from seed last year. They would probably be bigger if I had not been picking the leaves to use in cooking.
Thank you so much for this video! I will look for this plant to grow in zone 8A (TX). When traveling in India I encountered a lemon very similar and has sought it since. Maybe this fruit will be a good substitute.
Calamondin will grow well in zone 8. Plant in containers that u can bring in qnd out, and plant some in the ground. Make sure you plant it in the south side.
Hi a few weeks to a couple months. You don't need to wait till it get to yellow to harvest and eat. When the size is big enough and skin is full and tight you can harvest it. Yellow or orange doesn't mean sweet, it just makes it easy to peel as the skin gets thinner.. calamondin is sour 😆
I love the taste of it I eat it as is. I have a tree and started a bunch of seeds. It's a cross between kumquat and a lime so the flesh can be eaten like a kumquat.
I got two plants in late Feb 22 and just now started to eat the fruits whole as I'm seeing them recently change from being green since I got the bushes. I've almost choked a couple times like you because I'm anticipating eating them so much as a snack and had some juice go up the back of my throat.......lost the ability to talk for a few minutes.....LOL I'm going to get more if I can find them at Lowe's in the spring. Does anyone in zone 7 (Central VA) keep them outside in a small greenhouse?
Hi just let them grow and transfer them to bigger containers when they get big. Calamondin frim seeds takes a while before it produce fruits, just fertilize once a year it will help.
Hi yes, they can produce year-round. Most of my calamondin plants are producing right now even if it's winter. Flowers smell really nice, it's a natural sweet scent in our dining area 😃
@@wellnessandcountrylife Hi, and thank you for your reply! Most citrus produces in the winter where I am. I'm hoping it will flower throughout the year while it's maturing fruit rather than flower in the winter and take all year or almost all year to mature the one crop.

Please try grafting cuttings from the Lowe's calamondin onto your 11y/o tree it will fruit more because it comes from an older patent plant genetics. Definitely worth trying
Yes, Lowe's have them on seasonal occasion. Fertilize your calamondin to help expedite its recovery and growth. Repot it when it gets bigger, and position it properly compensating the sideways position so it grow's stairght up.

I've tried pruning at the beginning at the summer....composting....etc. They are so healthy & beautiful, but my heart is broken because of no fruit (I plan to put in an iced lemongrass tea!! - SARAP!!)
