Quadrajets are a great carb and easy rebuild, lots of information, books and support out there.
Glad to see someone with as much junk as me in their yard, only I’m in to old Trans Ams. Always carry a fire extinguisher in them old carbureted cars.
Should put throttle return springs on like the factory had them. Connected to a bracket across that mounts torear carb bolts and the springs connect to the bottom of the throttle lever below the throttle shaft and pull straight rearward closing the throttle, The way you have it way out board will cause premature wear on the throttle plate bushings and invite the possibility of the throttle sticking full throttle if it cams over the pivot point with the spring at a angle
With these new ethanol fuels have to see how it holds up.
Nothing like having a new carburetor.
Glad I watched this because I just ordered one from ebay, just to get a rebuilt 283 going for first time start, but if it continues to run well I will keep it on, yours appears to sound real good actually specially for a knock off.
The real test is to see how the secondaries open up when you tromp on it.
Exactly…
Yeah, where is that video?
Or don't in the case of many previously monkeyed with quadrajet problems vehicles I've gotten ahold of over the years and figured out most of them...
I had my 1979 Q-jet restored to better than new at JET Performance Products in Huntington Beach, CA. I went with their Stage Two Performance build. When I opened the box I was blown away by the quality service that totally restored my Q-jet to better than new condition. Simply amazing with a simple reinstall of my original carb as it was when I removed it from the engine. I was cautious to make sure I received my original carb and not some off the shelf rebuild by taking detailed photos of my carb ID number before I shipped it to JET and sure enough I received my original carb back from them. NO Games Played! So how did it work you may wonder, One word defines the results, PERFECTLY! Starts immediately, warms right up, NO STUTTER or BOGGING, PULLS HARD AND SMOOTH FROM IDLE TO FULL THROTTLE! My 383 Stroker loves it! So do I. I don't miss one penny of the $450.00 I spent for this restore by JET PERFORMANCE PRODUCTS. Ronster
This $150 carb is for people who don't want to spend $450 for a rebuild or buy a new name brand carb. When you spend 3 times more for parts building a car then you end up putting $30k into it rather than $10k. Makes a big difference between a profit or big loss when it comes time to sell.
Always a good & entertaining video Lee I love the 78-87 El Camino My friend had a 78 he put in a 327 I had a 80 I had a Mr Goodrench 350 put in mine
Good deal on that carburetor. Just bolt it on and go! Sweet! Thanks for sharing that!
That Aspen RT super coupe has my mouth drooling 🤤 we had one bought new in 78 and my brother fell behind on payment. I've looked for one to build since. Very nice cars. I had a 77 nova rally that I raced. Great cars
One thing it still does some awesome burnouts
Good morning clunkers classics and cats 😉 it's nice to see that carburetor worked out for you Lee. It sounds really good. Keep up the good work and the cool videos 👍✌️🇺🇲
Thanks 👍
awesome work lee im glad the carburetor works excellent have a great weekend you and nikky
Thanks
Got mine on my sbf with the adapter took a few test drives works great only thing is i had to tie open the choke because i don't have that intake part for it. Just a little hard to start but once warm it works great.
I have a Chinese knock off ford 2 barrel works great did have to grease gaskets on power valve plate. Other than that small leak. Works great.
Nice I have a 78 ss El Camino I just dropped 150 on a mock carb hoping to get mine up again
Glad the carb worked out for you. It's 60 year old technology with no electronic parts and by now I'm sure the knockoffs are OK. Did you notice any weight differences between the carbs and the knockoff being lighter?
about the same weight
Are u located in Texas
So how is it going so far with that carb? I’m going to order mine today? Any new issues? Smoking anything?
The Problem with one of these "replacement" Carbs, is what was Fuel Delivery Curve set up for? The Q-Jet was offered on tens of thousands different Engines and HP ratings, and few had the same Fuel Curve
If the Choke is NOT opening Fully, the Secondaries will be locked out, so your Bimetal Choke, with the Welded Link is Questionable. The Old Carb looks like pre 1975 chevy, Calibrated quite Lean, and all the Jet changing in the World isn't gonna Richen it much, in regards to its tip-in Delivery. Some serious rework of the Non-Service Parts of the Fuel Bowl need recalibration
The 'New' Carb has an entirely different Choke Mechanism, far less sophisticated
The Idle Solenoid, wasn't just used on A/C cars, it was often used on non-AC ones to prevent/reduce Dieseling when the Engine was shut off. In the early 70s, lean Idle Mixtures combined with retarded Timing, required a greater opening of the Throttle to attain Idle Speed. When the engine was shut off, more air and thus Fuel was still moving, and the Higher Temps from the Forementioned Parameters would often result in the Engine kind of continuing to run without spark. The Solenoid would shut the Throttle in an Attempt to Starve the Engine of gas-air
Big difference on the Linkage between the Primary Shaft and Secondary Shafts, Angles are different too
It seems to run not too bad, out of the Box. It will be interesting how it runs at higher Speeds, keep us informed
Glad it worked there is a lot of hate out there on the chinese quadrajets. I ordered me one gonna try it next week on my Small block ford.
You got yourself a good one bud if you get a good Quadrajet man it'll do you write that one it's good
Great that it works, hope it lasts!
I've been looking at these carbs on Ebay and Amazon lately for my '68 C10 pickup. I figured that i would do some research before committing to one.
i have rebuilt over 1000 carbs 500 of them qjets , made some from 3 or 4 parts carbs about 75% worked fine they have very finicky needle and seats warped air horns stripped inlets shot throttle shafts, i think they are good for mileage but for ease and value very hard to beat an edelbrock performer (used) i have had good luck with holleys too as long as you replace all gaskets and needle assembly , imo qjets are a pita to deal with but when you have 5 gallon buckets of them you use what you got. i'm sure that new one worked better than rebuilt ones.
Sounds great Lee! 😉✌
Thanks
Good deal! Thats a feisty little El Camino now ! lol
Here to support
Love the cat's assisting you.
Those primary throttle blades should be perpendicular and not moving around as you accelerate. Something needs tightened?
Nice carborater it sounds great!!!!
Thanks
Personaly I like the Q-Jet because its really easy to tune and modify. Until you get an old one that isnt right... That can take a man down "The rabbit hole"...
I been running the Chinese knock off motortcraft 2150s on my fords for a few years. I’ve had real good luck with them.
I bought one from Amazon for my 68 Deville but it was a bit of a dud and would diesel. I returned it and bought an Edelbrock instead. It's nice to know that the problem was wish mine and not all of them.
sounds like a timing issue
good luck with your carb
Quadrash!ts we’re actually great carbs, yes very tuneable. There downfall is usually attributed to the small float bowls. Bowls could be sucked dry faster than they were able to refill in a performance application, fuel starvation in cornering, and acceleration applies. Rebuild, check float level & keep orifices clean. Accelerator pump ok? Check fuel pump output. Go enjoy.
Good informative video. 👏. Thanks,
You need better Kick down bracket.
Excellent
Sounds good to me 👍🏻
Done lots of quad junks pretty good carbs
$850 to get a q jet rebuilt/renewed here in Perth w.a. only 1 guy willing to do it.
Two thumbs up to you Lee. The black beautie is running like she should.
Thanks
Them ol Rochester carbs will suck the paint off the hood not bad for what you paid
What about the TV cable did you connect that and see how it ran how it shifted? If I was you I'd get the old carburetor rebuilt.
3 turns out at least on the idle mixture screws
Wow interesting. I saw these only $150. Then found this video. Cool
Qjet great carb for lower hp uses. If you are making big hp you will probably suck the bowl dry if your fuel system is not perfect.
Awesome
Cool
Excellent give us some feedback over time cheers 🥂 😊
I bought the knockout for my truck and it literally caught on fire every time I tried to start it. Not just a lil spark it caught on fire and almost burned my truck up. Put the original Rockchester back on and it worked fine again.
strange. mine is working fine still.
Cheap carby changeover , saved hundreds , cheers
Chinesium! From the Shanghai Speed Shop
Sweet
Hahaha! I just saw an ad in the middle of this video for an electric car!
Scan ass for no better than that but for a 150 bucks I tried one usually they squatted us when they were right they were right forever
You have many Al Pacinos now.
When it gets cold, put that solenoid back on… with it on , with or without the heat stove / riser , the engine will
start easier …
That solinoid is for air conditioning. All it does it raise rpm when compressor is on. It litteraly does nothing else what so ever.
My 1973 Nova SS w/ a 350 v8 Quadrajet has that solenoid and has never had AC since I bought the car in 1973… my car is a 4 spd… the plunger rod physically pushes the primaries open during cold weather starts til the heat stove/ riser kicks in…
A fellow shitbox enthusiast with jeans that look like hot garbage. This is my kind of youtube channel. Thumbs up!
Thanks
Yeah great good job on the 1982 El Camino runs better
runs great now, no more idling and stalling problems
Carbs are still *much* cheaper than the efi kits currently available.
Hey Lee, can ya post the eBay ad no. For the carb ? I need that exactly same carb. Thanks 👍
go to ebay and put in rochester quadrajet, a bunch will pop up
exact heading is: Rochester Quadrajet Carburetor For Chevy 350 400 427 454 750CFM 4MV 4 Barrel
Buy a carb with a proper choke not this useless heat riser intake crap
What is it with Smokers getting close to things that emit Gasoline Vapours?
Is that you uncle Tony??
Confidence Bud! Confidence!
Throttle shaft play!!!!!
Is the carb still working good? I just got one in today gonna try it.
yes
@@clunkersandclassics awesome these chinese carbs get alot of hate. But I say if it works it works. Can't wait to try mine.
@@clunkersandclassics got mine on got it to idle only thing that I had to fiddle with was the spring on the secondary air doors. I adjusted it and they open now. Can't wait to test drive it.
You think it will work on a stock 88 454?@clunkersandclassics
Is it that Quality Brand 'China'?

@@clunkersandclassics ya just installed one workin good so far . I call 71 impala the China clipper now lol
Rebuild it they are not that complicated.
The first old carburetor, anything could be wrong with it, Missing parts to not adjust right, Back when we had carburetors, everybody was rebuilding them, China Junk works, made the engine sound great,
these cats catch mice?
I hope so
Just put the damn thing on😅
Have you had any long-term issues with your new "knock-off" Rochester Quadrajet carburetor? I have, and they've been very disappointing.
I bought one of these carbs off of Amazon on March 20 to replace the worn-out Edelbrock that was on my 68 C10. After watching a few videos on these knock-off carburetors, I figured that I would take a chance and try one out for myself. I've been rebuilding engines and carburetors ever since the 80s, so I've seen quite a few over my lifetime. At first, it seemed that the new Q-jet would work just fine, but I was wrong. It won't stay idling until the engine has warmed up to operating temperature, despite all of the tuning and adjustments and engine timing that I have done. Plus, if I let the truck sit for a few days, all of the gas has drained out of the fuel bowl. The well plugs are leaking. I have to prime the carb in order to get the truck running. I've got up until April 20 to return the carb. Thanks to these issues, I'll be returning this carb and going a different route.
I haven't had any problems from mine but I don't drive it much. I have to prime all my cars after they sit awhile. There is a bunch of different manufacturers of these carbs so all might not be the same.
Send it to me
BR549, Clunkers & Classics, you buy we sell. Used car lot.
Nope 2.5 on a Rochester min
3.5 to 4 is the sweet spot
Say it ain't so...
My god had a friend in Georgia middle school. Same type land cars galore. Brings back memories real american mentors in this country. Anyways would love to buy the long cool woman in a black dress. Let me know.
There's literally almost nothing in that carb!! A child could rebuild those things! ha ha
Make great drag racing carbs as do Thermoquads!
My knock off works great
