What about getting back to basics!Build the vehicles that people need and want. Not everyone needs a high end vehicle or a mid range vehicle. Some of us would be very happy with a basic vehicle. I would love to have my old Dodge D-50 with a standard transmission and four wheel drive and a almost 8ft box. Standard everything. Windows, seats, ac and heat, basic stereo. You say you want to save the environment, but yet you want all this throw away technology? Give me back the basics and you guys will sell more vehicles.

They are selling $45K trucks for $100K so 35% isn’t enough . They need to start selling the higher end trucks for $45K to $50K and offer $27K models for the lower trim models . I’m just being realistic here and I realize they can’t sell these for 20K that they are trying to sell for 100K but they can do it for 45K and they better figure it out . The car car companies need to higher fierce negotiators to explain to the morons in congress and the epa the difference between reality and fantasy too and work together as a whole to refuse to comply with a lot of their outrageous regulations . If all the auto companies refuse to comply with their dumb regulations at the same time they’ll stop because they will be blamed when things go down hill and government bureaucrats never want everybody pointing the finger solely at them for all the problems that are going on . By doing this they can cut cost even more and a mechanic wont have to have a degree in rocket science to be truly competent in vehicle repair . All this high tech mumbo jumbo is going to require serious degrees at some point in the future resulting in much higher repair costs . There are so many things wrong with the auto industry right now due to greed and the government and very few if any politicians have been a mechanic, engineer, factory worker, or car salesman so they have no idea what they are doing when then write legislation on anything to do with automobiles .

The key word in Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) is "Suggested". That's why they called dealerships and not automotive retailers.

No Fkn Way! I bought a Tundra TRD Pro for a total of $91k only because my previous Ford, Chrysler and GMC products were hunks of junk! By the time I paid them off after 5-yrs I had 100k miles on them and I'd essentially paid for them twice when factoring in all the repairs! I bought a Tundra new in 2007 and drove it til 2023, it had 285k miles and was worn out from parking 200 ft from the ocean for 14-years. In all that time the only mechanical issues were the serpentine belt tensioner wheel, the radiator, and several batteries. By 2023 the constant exposure to salt air had rusted the body, frame, bumpers, etc...

Critical and 'not as critical' engine components made of plastic is what the buying public should be more outraged about. Vehicles with premature failures, not matter what they cost, is what should cause consumer backlash. But most people probably never open the hoods of their cars, so manufacturers continue to get away with it; which is why current vehicles are just 'lease-mobiles' or 'after warranty throw-aways'.

Most mechanics that have plenty of experience (meaning they are old generation) will tell you that turbo charged v6's wont last as long as a V8's and are way too complicated to work on (more parts...more to go bad). I've been keeping my v8's as long as possible (RAM and Chevy trucks) because of that stupid decision to get rid of v8's. They are NOT more efficient. You only typically get 2 miles a gallon more but all the trouble they cause with repair bills you will be losing money in the long run. People like me (farming) need the v8's for power and dependability.

Don't know why they kept on showing the former CEO, whom they "retired". Hopefully Tim Kuniskis will be able to right this ship. Follow Toyota's lead on their current trucks. They have major quality problems but are backing up their product--replacing engines on 110,000 '22-24 Tundras and replacing transmissions in the new Tacoma. No, they shouldn't be having these quality problems but they are addressing them without being forced to in lawsuits or NHTSA recalls. A similar problem with Ecodiesels at RAM was met with denial and delay in backing their customers. Their trucks are the best riding, most comfortable, quietist, and best interiors now all they need is to raise the quality and drop the prices. And, contrary to a number of just plain silly comments below, that means drop prices by 20-25% (saying they need to drop prices by more than 35% is rather stupid--look at SUV and car prices and a 20-25% drop will make the trucks cheaper than the SUV's).

I have a simple solution for the big three….. quit forcing everyone to buy vehicle safety equipment we don’t really need! I KNOW YOU WOULD HAVE TO NEGOTIATE WITH THE GOVERNMENT. Airbags , not everyone really needs them , seatbelts do the bulk of the work and are not super expensive like airbag systems, anti-lock brakes, not necessarily needed, tpms systems not really needed, ADAS SYSTEMS (VERY EXPENSIVE) NOT REALLY NEEDED, SUPER EXPENSIVE STEREO AND DISPLAYS SHOULD BE OPTIONAL!
IF I CAN JUMP ON MY 200 MILE PER HOUR kawasaki POCKET ROCKET IN MY THONG SWIMSUIT WITH ABSOLUTELY no safety equipment of any kind and hit 60 mph in 3- seconds what’s the !@%£#¥!@& governments problem! You could probably cut 20-30 thousand dollars of the cost of the vehicles! Let the rich people order those high dollar options if they want them.

I bought my 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie in March 2019. It was priced at $57,100.
They sold it to me for $45,000 or 20% off the MSRP because it had been on their
lot for over 6 months. Today, a similarly optioned 2024 Ram 1500 is listed at
    $67,500 MSRP. So, 35% off $67500 would be a price of $43835 or a $1165 lower
price than I paid in 2019. This seems like a good deal to me, but my truck has been
so good I have no plans to trade for a V-6 turbo powered pickup.

My 2019 GMC Sierra Denali 2500hd with duramax window sticker was $63k brand new. Today the same truck with more technology features is $80-110k. My theory is they raised all of these car prices to equal the value of the EV vehicles and offset those costs of being built. EV’s in the beginning were way more and who can afford them right! So let’s level the playing field and that’s what they’ve done and try to push the EV’s on us and make them look more affordable.

In 2004 a loaded 3/4 ton Ram Diesel had a msrp of roughly 35,000. Using an inflation calculator, $35,000 in 2004 is equivalent to $60,000 in 2024. Factor in all the tech and gadgets in today's truck VS a 2004 Ram and you can see that there is so much more in the current truck.
$70k-$80k for a fully loaded 3/4 ton diesel in 2025 is more than reasonable. Factor in sales and rebates and promotions that happen through the year and an average price of $75k msrp with the possibility to buy under $70k during sales promotions is more than fair.
i think Ram and Dodge have many good things to look forward to with Tim Kuniskis back at the helm. Hopefully he will find a better suppliers for outsourced parts with better quality, have enough operating cash to even increase in-house parts that have the largest margins, and sell the hell out of vehicles again.
Regardless of the brand, more than passenger vehicles I truly believe pickup owners have a sense of pride in their trucks and hopefully... the MSRP drops will be the start of a fierce competition with the top 3 to make better trucks at a lesser cost to the buyers.

Stellantis raised their prices over 60% from 2020. Companies like Subaru only kept up with inflation and raised prices 24%. Stellantis was ripping people off and they are now paying for it with fewer customers. Them slashing prices by 35% brings them back in line with inflation, they’re not doing anything.

It's a start, but it doesn't go far enough. In the long run, the manufacturers also must design the vehicles so that they can be better and more easily maintained. You can't just design a vehicle where maintenance items are not accessible, because it means that maintenance costs will be much higher. And people cannot afford to buy new cars as they did in the past.

35% MSRP cut is a nice start. But it's only a start. The MSRP has to match consumer potentialities.
They need the metric to fall into this... What is the percentage of the MSRP level with the result of default on payment. What has the default rate become? Bring the prices down to the point where people shouldn't have to choose between making a car payment or feeding their family.
Now put pressure on the government for passing laws that force the MSRP upward for features NO ONE wants or cares about.
