It is not only expensive and difficult to achieve a native 4K resolution and even more so if we add ray tracing to the equation it is even more difficult. 2K seems like an excellent resolution to me, which is the one I play most of my games at, they should bet more. for 2k and not complicate it, they would have excellent performance in fps as well as a very good resolution.
Yup, everyone praises PC and it's quality until the price comes into play You need 4070 (~550 bucks for the GPU alone, mind you) or more to beat consoles comfortably even now; 3070 is a no-no, around +15% of performance and no vram won't beat rx6700 **comfortably** and after ps5 pro release you will have to have 5070/4080 super or more
I'm a ps gamer and yes we should of been on 1440 it's like we skipped that and went on to 4k...these consoles are "able" to do 4k but not master it. If that makes sense.
It really is gonna come down to DF's verdict when they eventually post a video comparing the PS5 version and the Pro version. There's no way of knowing if the Pro is worth the money until we see the difference.
@@dougiejones5719Don't listen to that other guy ps5 pro will have much higher image quality in games significantly higher internal rendering resolutions and an actual decent machine learning ai upscaler to compete with dlss versus shifty fsr 2 on base ps5 buying a ps5 now would be a bad idea imo when the pro is so close to launch.

On point, I have a PC with a Ryzen 9 7950, RTX 4080 Super +64 GB RAM. It cost 3400 dlls. The processor alone is more expensive than a PS5. PS5 PRO will always have bottleneck limiter due to the mid range processor (Zen 2). So bye bye GTA 6-Native 4K @60 Fps

@@cartermoth6447Most of the time no, but console manufacturers don't care, cause mid-gen refreshers will sell like pancakes, especially when marketted as a "pro model".
That's only because Rockstar refuse to do anything about it, not because they can't do anything about it. If they wanted to, they can definitely give RDR2 a current-gen upgrade to 60 fps, and even some graphical improvements. It's the PS4 Pro and the XBOX One X versions that are currently playing on the PS5 and Series X.
It's still one of the best games ever, I currently play the PS4 Pro because the 5 doesn't have too many games out right now that makes me want to rush and get one, but I'm going to grab one in the coming months
Performance mode should be the basic mode when developping for consoles and Quality mode should be the “extra” one. RT should NEVER be forced in any mode. But all these projections suck big time. I just don’t have the cash to build a pc when a good GPU card alone can cost multiple times what a PS5 cost. I just hope that those 30fps games will have unlocked framerate and that they will run within VRR windows on the Pro. Speaking of which, I wonder if the Pro will have full 2.1 bandwith and 40-60 VRR instead of 48-60
Nah, I'd rather have a game like GTA 6 be more demanding on release so that it still looks impressive a decade later, running at 60 fps only on more powerful machines instead of out of the gate.
Ps5 has few games at 30 fps, the vast majority run at 60 in its performance mode and if a PS5 Pro really comes out, it will run the games at 60 easily if it meets all the specifications that have been leaked. In addition, we must remember that not all they have tvs with vrr
@@funcioguerra9998 I know VRR is far from being a mainstream household technology but I fear that even with the Pro it will be a must to get a locked 60 on games like Dragons Dogma 2 for exemple. These DF videos just bum the fuck out of me since I’m a console player exclusively and I’m tired of hearing people with 4000$ PCs saying “just buy a pc then”. Lets hope Sony is giving good incentives to developpers to really use the Pro advantages to push performance and not just rely of the extra raw power.
@@Spoopy_man I know you are right since GTA 5 has been on 3 console generations so I’m sure Rockstars don’t give care about 60 for this generation because they must be future proofing the game for at least the next one.

They will always cater to the masses who do not know any better and think theres no difference between 30 and 60 fps, and think every game on consoles run at native 4K.
Yes, if they drop the native res to 480p. Jokes aside, there too many games on the ps5/series xs consoles that drop to sub 1080p just so that they can maintain (keyword "maintain") 60fps. We'll see what rockstar can pull off.
The problem is different here, resolution can be upgraded as rendering quality, the problem is that if the game is CPU bound it will stay CPU bound in terms of max FPS, not in terms or rendering quality which is more GPU dependent.
GTA5 online can't run constant 60 if drops heavily at times ps5 pro comes this year so you will see tests and mark my word, unlocked fps games won't hit 60 either, GTA6 will have bigger density of NPCs and better AI which is handled by CPU, so it won't run at 60 even at 720p that's it.
@@gillesfleury2619 ah so the situation is far worse than I thought. But hey, maybe they can pull it off??? Rdr2 ran exceptionally well on the ps4/xbone(especially the premium ones) considering the fairly outdated laptop cpus they had. The ps5 cpus is in a whole new processing league compared to previous gen, but idk, im sceptical that gta6 will even run at a stable 30fps😂
@@ThereIsOnlyOneRandom Basically if a game could work in 60 fps it will work also in 60fps with higher resolution and better rendering, if the games couldn't hit 60fps there are two caes, GPU limitation, in this case fps will rise, or CPU limitation, then it will still be an issue to hit 60fps.
Its worth something that almost all PS5 games have a 60fps attempt and at least fall within the VRR window (I hope the Pro has a larger VRR window, 20-120hz) I know its a pair of super nerfed Zen 2 clusters but a lot of games only have the issue of lower resolutions if you look around. I think it actually makes a lot of sense overall that its just basically the same, I'm sure they would have increased it more than 10% if they could but the faster VRAM+GPU is the priority. CPU time on PS Studio games are really impressive when you run them in VRR, I think its a lot of sloppy optimization at fault regardless of the PS5's CPU being a bit on the weaker side. Its just a midgen refresh after all and the GPU/AI engine has me kinda excited, maybe there's more to that 10%
Did Digital Foundry already test GTA6? They keep talking about the PS5 Pro not being able to run it at 60fps, but as far as I know they don't have access to GTA 6 or the PS5 Pro. I hate when people make guess statements as if they were facts. Why not wait until they have tested everything to make definitive statements? For all we know GTA6 could have a 60fps mode for the consoles. Also, for all we know the game might be primarily GPU bound. We just don't know.
they always correct, and if you know how GTA5 runs online on ps5 then you can test it on ps5 pro when it comes out and check yourself if game runs better, mark my word, it won't run at stable 60fps, and that's outdated game, at least you will have idea how it looks like and GTA 6 will have bigger density of NPC and other things so that's why it won't run at 60 CPU is simply too weak
Your comment just sounds like you're still clinging on to hope but the thing is Digital Foundry is hardly ever wrong when it comes to stuff like this. Games like GTA are very CPU heavy and the CPU in the PS5 is pretty outdated at this point and isn't going to be improved much in the PS5 Pro so that 60fps mode just ain't going to happen.
Nah man, this just proves you don't understand how games work. Gta 6 won't be primarly GPU heavy, it will be CPU heavy. Open world games have a lot of assests, a lot of npcs and whole bunch of stuff going on between them. That requires a lot of complex calculations and that takes a toll on CPU, that's a fact. Gta 6 will have the richest and most complex open world in any game ever to date and it's gonna starve that CPU. If you knew all that, you would understand how someone like digital foundry comes to such conclusions. They are not some amateurs, they understand these things very well, I mean they are among most credible people on the internet when it comes to all of this. Now if ps5 pro intruduces some kind of magic like they are saying, crazy new upscaling, frame gen or something that can bypass CPU limitations, then it may somehow reach 60 fps but just depending on the CPU alone, nah. Have in mind that Rockstar still hasn't unlocked 60 fps for Red Dead Redemption 2 on PS5, probably never will. So, even if PS5 Pro could reach 60 fps in GTA 6, doesn't mean anything. It's still up to Rockstar and they always release their games locked at 30fps.
To be honest we need 60FPS as a base, 30FPS got very high input lag but I know they will release it with 30FPS and auto aim, if it cross-platform game with PC I need 60FPS then!
It’s going to have a performance mode and fidelity mode.. all Rockstar need to do is lower the internal resolution to let’s say 720-1080p and use PSSR to upscale to 4K, this will allocate more of the CPU and GPU power to make 60fps possible. Yes the console is going to be bottlenecked but that’s not to say the GPU and Memory cannot compensate to some degree, most games on PS5 have a 60fps and even 120fps modes on some so to say that a console with 45% more raw compute performance can’t run GTA 6 at 60fps is wrong, doesn’t matter how ambitious this game is, Developers have been developing this game on the Zen 2 CPU’s for a while now to get the most out of the hardware as possible, my theory is that the PS5 Pro will do 4k 60 using PSSR
@@xacvhFAs a lot of PS5 games struggle to hit 1440p 60 lmao, if you’re a developer will you run the internal resolution at 1800-2160p and only have enough resources to run it at 30fps or will you render the internal resolution of the game lower and use machine learning to upscale it to 4k? I hope you realize that most games we’re playing on PS5 are not native 4K.. they are usually upscaled from 1440p and PSSR won’t be using simple upscaling, it’s machine learning tech
That would be the logical thing to do! But game development rarely runs on logic; especially if everyone is creaming themselves because we're finally getting a new GTA and it's merely prettier than the last one ergo they aren't going to hold Rockstar up to new, AAA standards!
I don't understand all this talk about Sony using its own AI upscaler and the Pro still might not even be able to get 60 FPS in new games regardless of settings used?? Imagine paying 600+ dollars and still getting a 30 fps experience in 2024/2025.

In my opinion, the pro will target “feels like 60 fps” by improving on the 1% lows. That’s honestly the most noticeable part of framerate anyways. Also, do we even have any idea what type of memory is being used in the pro? If it is a better memory, then there might be no gpu degradation at all. With how memory is unified on consoles, that core clock increase might be more impactful than on a pc equivalent.
What I think is that people are looking at the PS5 Pro from the perspective that the console will be an ascending performance generator when, in fact, the PS5 Pro will be used to maintain current performance. For example, if Nintendo had released a Switch Pro, would they have more 1080p60 games or fewer? Would Zelda run at 1080p30 with drops or 1080p60? Would Doom run at 540p30 or 540p60? More low-quality shaders or fewer. A Switch Pro would come to fix a low-performance problem of the Switch. The same will happen with the PS5 Pro; it will have more 120fps games? Yes, because the PS5 has few, and those that do, do so in a degraded way. Will it have fewer games with performance drops? Yes, because certain demanding games have moments of drop. Will it have better RT? Yes, because sometimes the RT quality is so low because it's negligible. This does not mean that the PS5 Pro will run everything like a high-end PC but fix several pending issues on the PS5. This can be seen as a relaunch, it's Sony saying this console here will not only not give you the message that it's hot when playing the game online, but now you will run at 60-120fps the next shooter, or they saying that along with the console comes a new Dualsense version that doesn't drop the battery so much, or it doesn't have so much incompatibility with certain TVs, etc. Fixed problems and superior performance. New product.
The trailer was at 30 FPS with the base resolution being at 1440p upscaled to 4K I believe (correct me if im wrong), and I seriously doubt it's going to be hitting 60 FPS at a decent resolution lol. Maybe it'll hit 40 FPS with VRR.

HFW is definitely not a launch title. It was released in Feb 2022 more than a year after the PS5 launch date. I'd also argue that Ratchet and Clank looks better in my eyes than HFW. I agree with you that developers haven't used all their resources to get the most out of the PS5 though.
I've never entirely agreed with the whole argument regarding the CPU refresh being a modern upgrade. Multiple CPUs are released every single year on PC, PS5 and xbox are both using essentially PC components on x86. Every single PS5 game would automatically be backwards compatible if they just stick with an x86 ryzen chip? The changes to the games are already made for the various pc cpus.

I’m not sure but I believe they can improve the performance of the Zen 2 if they decided to layer a 3D V-cache on it if they really want to stick with the same architecture for cost, die area or compatibility reasons. Or maybe shared memory pool already offset the memory bandwidth and latency limitation?
@@badz1497 3D V-cache was first developed on Zen 2, but only released with Zen 3 and latter, and with this being semi-custom, anything is possible. Do You guys see a chance that PS5 will get a "system boost update" as compensation for the retail box text "8K 120FPS HDR" ? I don't need playing games in 8K or at 120 fps. I focus on 4K HDR quality mode in up to 60fps. But SONY can't IMO just ignore the statement on the box of all sold PS5 consols and leave all their customers to look forward to a similar text for the PS5 Pro. If limiting watt usage of PS5 is more important than delivering raw power to demanding games it's really sad. Regards from Martin, Denmark
"If the game's running at 27/28fps, a 10% GPU increase won't do anything but a 10% CPU increase would" What?? It's the opposite! A small fps indicates a weak GPU, not a weak CPU. The CPU becomes the bottleneck if the GPU is overkill or if the resolution is too low (leading to the GPU being overkill once again). 4K or 1440p120hz are anything but low resolutions. The PS5 Pro's GPU is looking great but it's also not going to be an overkill for these resolutions. So unless the game is running at sub-1080p or close to 720/900p, the CPU will hardly become a limitation. There's a reason why we test GPUs at high resolution, so we know how many frames it can push, and we test CPUs at low resolutions, so we know how much freedom the GPU has until the CPU becomes the limiting factor. Again, the CPU does not become the limiting factor at high resolutions unless it's too old or the GPU is a freaking beast.
Yes with the pro only having a 10% boost id say its unlikely to run gta6 at 60fps, better off waiting for the ps6 because it will obviously have a much better cpu to run this game at 4k 60fps

I'd be amazed if it runs anywhere near 60fps on the PS5 Pro without a drastic reduction of the amount of Objects, NPCs, etc that we saw in the trailer.
Mostly every PS5 game is 60 FPS.... so why would Pro suddenly be 30? Make it make sense. He says we didn't expect to see the PS5 CPU limited in this many titles... what is he talking about. The only 30 FPS game I know of is Dragons's Dogma 2. As far as GTA 6 we should probably wait for them to say something. They might do 60 on the regular PS5 and Xbox Series X. There are only 3 30FPS PS5 games: Gotham Knights Industria The Quarry So DF is being very misleading here.
But how many of those supposedly 60fps games have performance issues? Baldur's Gate 3, Jedi Survivor, Helldivers 2 from memory, and all those are CPU performance related issues. Also I'd be curious to see BF 2042 revisited.
@b1zarr01 gamers dont have standards. A whine on twitter wont stop it selling a gazillion copies and everyone playing it at 30 like how people complain about cod and buy it every year or sports etc etc
It's certainly possible from a technical standpoint. But it's a matter of Rockstar wanting to actually do the work instead of just lazily crap out 4k30FPS only which is definitely a real possibility considering all the dick heads that just shrug and lie about "30FPS is fine"
GTA 6, even from the trailer, has vastly more simulation present. Lower resolution and graphical effects have no impact on the performance if the CPU is running on full tilt.
That certainly seems like it should be technically possible; especially with that little bit extra power of the PS5 Pro. Running gta6 at 60FPS would make a good marketing point for the PS5 pro

I'm in the mindset that devs / publishers need to work within the limitations of the PS5 Amateur and Series X to make every single game with no exception to run at 60 fps at something that still looks decent enough. And if they can't do that, they need re-assess their ambitions for this generation. The PS5 Pro should be there for customers that want more than that in terms of resolution and framerate - not just to achieve the minimum that was expected this gen.
the PS5 Pro doesn't have enough power for 60FPS tho (it's still using the identical CPU and many games are CPU limited nowadays). It's just gonna have higher resolution just like PS4 and PS4 Pro. Nothing groundbreaking.
@@ProtectusCZ I know and hence why I think devs need to scale back ambitions a bit if they can’t work within the CPU limitations to allow a 60 fps experience.
This machine isn't meant to be a game changer. The difference seems to be in resolution targets. This machine theoretically should make 4k upscaled 60 fps possible.
okay gta6 will have configuration to lower draw distance and reduce textures so it will run on older hardware, the ps5 pro with newer upscaling will try to achieve a more a stable framerate whichever it may be 30 or 60 fps for the title at 1440p or 4k
If people want the ps5 pro, no problem. However, I'm not buying the same console twice just to have features that should have been incorporated the first time around.
It was not possible to add these features to the PS5 Pro, in my opinion it will run on an rdna 3 architecture if these rumors are true because there is nothing official yet and since the standard ps5 has an architecture based on rdna 2 there are differences since rdna 3 did not exist when The standard PS5 came out on the market and the new technologies that the PS5 Pro brings were not available.
Fair enough. It's probably better for those who haven't got a PS5 yet, don't want a hassle of a PC and a powerful console at their fingertips. GTA 6 is playable on XBox and should be perfectly playable on PS5. At the end of the day, gamers should just be happy to play what they can.
I cannot imagine gta6 not achieving 60fps on the PS5 pro. Like the next opportunity to play it in 60fps would several years away….doesn’t make sense to me.
We've been here before. Neither the PS4 Pro nor the One X provided a big enough jump over the base hardware on the CPU side. Those systems were half-measures & didn't justify the cost IMO considering a few years later they were blown away by the Series X & PS5.
The question is not, if it achieves 60 fps. It sure will ... but maybe only in 1080p performance mode! It's most likely Playstation is resuming it's strategy with a 1440p (or higher with the Pro model) quality mode, more details and shadows at 30 fps and a performance mode with less resolution and details in 60 fps. And by the way: it does make sense: Sony wants you to buy their games as often as possible. A 30 fps on PS5 Pro and a better version for PS6 and PC does mean: some people buy the game twice. Which is what $ony wants.
PS5 and Series X are great 1440p machines. That's how they shuld have been marketed and that should have been develpers target specs. We just aren't there yet with 4k
Im buying a PS5Pro for Sonys exclusives which all run better than 3rd and 2nd party games. That have raytracing that have 60 and 120fps modes. If those games get better than its great news for me and worth the cost. Considering ive had a PS5 since launch day I welcome the upgrade.
an upgraded cpu i.e. not only clocked up higher is not going to be a different arch, its still going to be zen so that remark makes no sense at all. sony could easily put in a hotter cpu but if they don't it's going to be primarily because of cost, they have some fiddle room since they know up front not every consumer will be a target for a pro console, but it still can't be anywhere approaching the budget for even a mid gaming laptop
That would be nice. I'm having my doubts that it'll even offer any way to run it at 60FPS because gamers lack standards these days. They are already creaming themselves at the notion of more GTA. The concept of even offering a performance mode OPTION isn't even in the conversation for them.
I have a series x. Do you think that will run the game good enough or should i get a ps5 pro? I'd way rather just play on my 4090/7800x3d but that won't be happening for a while obviously.
Ps5 pro dev kits have only just reached gaming studios. The firmware and software isn’t 100% final. GTA6 is 12 months away. Code freeze is probably in place with 100% focus on optimising for launch day. PSSR is needed will need learning and rigorous testing. It’s highly unlikely that gta6 will be optimised for ps5 pro hardware in the first 6 months.

1080p 60fps for GTA 6 on PS5 Pro should be doable. Furthermore lets hope PS5 Pro's AI capabilities gets older 30fps locked Games to 60fps. THAT would be a pro argument to buy the PS5 Pro. If gta6 cant run at 4k 60 on ps5 pro why would they even make a pro? The more videos by df i see the more im losing faith in their expertise or lack thereof😐.
It probably could run it at 60 but they'll make it only 30 and save the 60 fps for some incentive to buy the game again on the next console like they've been doing this whole time cause it's all about the benjamins.
Rockstar notoriously does not compress or optimize their games on launch. I think consoles could be doing better of they focused on 1080p and 60 - 120 fps. Their infatuation with higher resolutions have made them lose their way.
So basically, Teraflops don't mean shit. At the end of the day, people still haven't seemed to learn that developers are the ones dragging performance. We keep getting better hardware, and yet we haven't seen any significant improvement in game performance. WHERE ARE THE GAMES? RDR2 (RAGE 8 Engine)runs at 4K60fps on PS5 mod-patch. GTA VI is RAGE 9....... there will be progress, but it will not be a huge gap, so a scenario such as 1080p-1440p, 50-60 fps is in my opinion absolutely possible for PS5, and for the PRO version probably certainly.

Ps5 has few games at 30 fps, the vast majority run at 60 in its performance mode and if a PS5 Pro really comes out, it will run the games at 60 easily if it meets all the specifications that have been leaked. In addition, we must remember that not all they have tvs with vrr

Cope.
To be honest we need 60FPS as a base, 30FPS got very high input lag
but I know they will release it with 30FPS and auto aim, if it cross-platform game with PC I need 60FPS then!

18 Gbps memory in the Pro vs 14 Gbps in the normal, same bandwidth, etc.
Look at Horizon Horbidden West. It is the best looking adventure game in 60 fps on PS5 and it is a launch title. It won´t use the full PS5-Power. The only problem is, that some developers are too lazy to use the system resources. 30 fps limitations at lower resolutions have nothing to do with the PS5 system.
Agreed i said this myself on other videos. Its all lazy devs and optimization. Because that game looks incredible. Has a dynamic 1880p60 mode and a native 4k30 and its a hugggggge world with toooo much going on and it still looks like that.

HFW is definitely not a launch title. It was released in Feb 2022 more than a year after the PS5 launch date. I'd also argue that Ratchet and Clank looks better in my eyes than HFW. I agree with you that developers haven't used all their resources to get the most out of the PS5 though.

I think everyone forgot about pssr , Its the new upscale tech isn't it ?
it won't affect CPU performance though
Playstation systems has a history of CPU being limited and underperforming in mostly modern games

The PS5 Pro should be there for customers that want more than that in terms of resolution and framerate - not just to achieve the minimum that was expected this gen.

PS5 enhanced mode = PS4 boost mode. So the answer is no.

Which is what $ony wants.

an upgraded cpu i.e. not only clocked up higher is not going to be a different arch, its still going to be zen so that remark makes no sense at all. sony could easily put in a hotter cpu but if they don't it's going to be primarily because of cost, they have some fiddle room since they know up front not every consumer will be a target for a pro console, but it still can't be anywhere approaching the budget for even a mid gaming laptop

@a-animal1206 Starfield was in development years and years before the merge with MS, 2nd Bethesda has never been good at optimization, is not a good metric to use starfiled. Look at forza, 60 fps even with rtx so, is possible if the developers plan accordingly
games are not games anymore, they are showcases to push the hardware, this is why nintendo is king atm
