@@jonathanrivera8585 The inability to achieve it isn't even the main issue - the main issue is that at normal viewing distances relative to screen size, 8K is not even perceptibly different to 4K. So what's the point in wasting the performance there on literally nothing when you could push towards 120 fps, or even just save some power? The only situation where 8K makes sense is something like VR or 3D displays (since 3D effectively cuts the perceived resolution in half AFAIK)

I'm still baffled that they didn't add themes as a default from the beginning of the PS5 We spent a whole generation collecting really good and creative themes in the PS4 era just for them to ditch them
PS4 didn't have themes for the first few years and that was following the PS3 which also didn't have themes for the first few years. Hopefully that means they'll come eventually
The ps4 ditched the ps3 themes and it took years for it to come to ps4. If all the themes carries over between generations it would be very limiting to what the new interface can be
This machine has to run games natively 60 fps first and foremost. If not then there's honestly no point of this machine. Fps should be first priority no excuses. Resolution is not as important.
What you say about rise of the ronin and its score is a general problem with gaming metascores nowadays. We have a possible rating of 0 to 100 and everything unter 70 is considered "bad", 70 to 80 is "ok" and only things over 80 are "good". That 0 to 70 span is so huge and yes, games below 70 can also be fun and enjoyable. But of course, potentially fun games are oftentimes not given a chance, just because they got a rating around 70.
To be fair, part of it is also people accounting for review inflation. Given the meme that any old piece of drek can get a 9.0 from IGN, people naturally assume that for a game to rank below 80, it must be pretty bad. Or, perhaps more generously, the competition in the market is so intense, with so many good games (and such high backlogs) that people just don't consider anything "mid" to be worth 40+ hours of scarce free time, when they haven't even got around to finishing Elden Ring yet.
Keep in mind that the review scale is not scaled from something like Suicide Squad (a decidedly mid 5/6 out of 10 game) to God of War 2018 (a masterpiece). It's scaled from stuff like Life of Black Tiger (a clear 0/1 out of 10) to stuff like God of War. We just have a bias towards only talking about the games that fall on the higher end of the scale
Gta5 being 4th in the sales chart 11 years after release almost makes me want to laugh/cry. Is this where we are at? Its 11 years old. How is it the 4th best selling game in march 2024?
To further your question; how are CoD, GTA online, Minecraft, Apex and LoL as popular as they are for so long? I won’t call them “bad games” but, personally I have zero interest in the “spawn, die, spawn, die, spawn, die, restart or break down and build stuff” gameplay with no story types of gameplay. I’m not trying to preach or be holier than anyone, but why are these games so popular? Even further, what draws VIEWERS to streams of these games over streams of games with really good stories? I know it’s all about my opinion, but I’ll never get it.
It's GTA what do you expect? GTA San Andreas and GTA IV were not much different from when they released until the next GTA came out. But also Minecraft exists and that's been one of the top selling games since it went to the 360 back in the day. Good games sell and great games sell eternally
The PSVR2 wouldnt be in this unfortunate situation if Sony didn't gate keep it to purely just be used with a PS5. Allowing it to be compatible with PC on day 1 would have benefited them alot more
Not only that, they barely advertised the PSVR2. If players on PS5 cannot even name a game on PSVR2, it’s not a consumer problem… they see no value in dropping $500 if there are no good games. 100% This would not have happened had we had Astro bot advertising PSVR2 everywhere with their own games exclusively on PSVR2

Uh, I would second that thought on dragons dogma. There’s no new game option so your stuck with 1 character forever, and over 40 dollars in microtransactions at launch, also frame rates are not better on pc, inconsistent.
Capcom had been doing the Day 1 microtransaction dump for the last few Monster Hunter games as well. You also have to purchase a voucher to change your characters appearance. Really obnoxious. People let them get away with it a bit more because they have some pretty big free updates in that series.
The microtransactions are useless. They've been doing this since DMC5. They offer nothing except an outlet for gamers who are lazy and have expendable income to avoid playing the game. It does nothing to anyone but yourself.
Crazy seeing all this psvr2 drama unfold as a psvr2 owner. I own more than 60 games on the device, my backlog is as big as my ps5s. And although I started with VR in 2016, my jaw still drops every time I walk into my psvr2 worlds. I know its an expensive device, but in the VR space its an incredibly cheap device for what you get. WRT the Bungie thing, if it's only senior management types that are leaving then that's a good thing. The real talent that Sony needs to keep are the teams actually making the games. Promotion from within once they get rid of the dead weight on top could be just what Bungie needs.

@MysticRyan Hey, I’m a long time subscriber. Thanks for all the PS coverage over the years. I hope you’ll take a subtle critique/request constructively: I believe you need to process your audio to eliminate much of the plosives and sibilance. Unfortunately the audio has been kinda shrill for a while now. It’s the P and S sound. When it comes to talking about PlayStation, PSN, and PSSR, there’s quite a lot of plosives and sibilance. As an audio guy, I recommend you look into applying some post-processing to your sound before rendering to improve the quality of your videos. Another strategy would be to EQ differently or change your mic to something warmer and less harsh in the upper frequencies. For me at least, this would level up your videos greatly. I appreciate your effort and content, so I’ll keep subscribing, but please consider improving the audio processing. It could be a consistent part of your video production. Thanks.
As someone who has been developing for a mix of VR headsets over the last 2 years as a part of my education, I don't really see a viable future where these games become mainstream. There is just too much that is not in the favor of VR right now. From the current development tools and documentation not being the best to the accessibility of headsets from a cost and usability standpoint they just don't make a whole lot of sense for the majority. I don't personally own a VR headset for two reasons: I have bad vision and need to wear glasses and because of the realistic representation of depth in modern VR headsets, the image will be blurry without my glasses and I'll end up getting a headache. However, VR headsets are not designed for people with glasses, and the weight of the headset will end up resting on your glasses and digging into where they sit on your nose, if you can even get them to fit inside the headset. Either way, it's a very uncomfortable experience. The other reason for me is that in addition to this, I get motion sickness after 30 minutes in VR. This will happen for a lot of people, and at least in my case it has never been something that I have been able to adjust to. It's better when sitting down, but ultimately I'd say trying to play through games in 30 minute bursts is not a very good experience and I will always prefer to play the game on a normal screen every time.
Same here. I love the game experiences, but the nausea is real and the headset is both physically and psychologically uncomfortable. I can't really enjoy the game fully when I'm cognizant that my dogs could be underfoot, the cable might trip me at any moment, etc. It's just too unsettling being cut off from the world like that, especially when I'm standing up swinging around a beat saber.
You can get prescription lenses for your vr headset. That way you won’t need to wear glasses. About your short play sessions, I would recommend making sure you’ve eaten, are hydrated, and had decent rest. I can play over four hours per session, before I have to charge the sense controllers again, with my psvr2. I’ve been playing vr since 2018 with psvr and I only got uneasy in the beginning. Some games I did have to sit and that was fine.
The Bungie vs Sony fight is very believable, Bungie as an American studio and generally independent but agreed to be bought out doesn't mean they won't try to stay independent and can easily see that is causing strife between other studios and bungie, especially the entire point was to bring their expertise to other Sony studios and it really sounds like Bungie is doing everything not to do that, very disappointed in Bungie literally bungling this opportunity and also disappointed in Sony for not anticipating all these issues they should have taken over their board as soon as the buyout happened or tried to do so as early as possible
The whole problem is that Bungie can't even manage to stay afloat their own ship. Bungie wanting to stay independent isn't the problem. All Sony cares about with this deal is Bungie delivering on the expectations that were set forth at the time of the acquisition. How the hell are they going to help Sony if they can't even manage that?
Yeah to me it seems pretty clear it means they took the performance mode and got it to 1440p *using* PSSR, based on the wording. Which probably does make it look decent on a 4K screen. On PC if you go 1080p dlss up to 1440p on a 4K screen it looks soft but way better than just 1080p or 1080p with TAAU up to 4K, and better than FSR2 doing the same thing, since FSR2 struggles at resolutions that low.
So far i am loving my psvr2 but i think the lack of advertising and not having it on pc day one and only having one frist party game hurt it but it looks like the pc release isn't too far away as an update was just released getting it ready for pc release.
@@shadowtitan8545 I think when it comes to pc it will look cheap and it is a lot I think most pc headsets coast a lot more money so psvr2 will be on the lower end and don't forget about the eye tracking tech inside of it still a lot of money but that tech it is worth it there have been some games using all of its features.
The PSVR2 is SOOO much fun imo. I always have loads of fun when I pick it up to play it. Whether that be racing, a shooting game, or something silly. Sony NEEDS to work on their library tho, thats where it shows its ugly side. Good games dont get me wrong, just not many, and a good bit of shovelware in there. Id personally love to see BL2vr get a port over to VR2.. but not looking promising.
When I bought the psvr2, that was the first PlayStation hardware I bought outside of a ps console and if they give up on it, I’m never buying anything outside of a console for them again. I should have just learned from the past with all their other hardware failures but I didn’t. Lesson learned.
Bought a launch PSVR2 and sold it 4 months ago, the biggest thing for me was having watched loads of content, official trailers and stuff from streamers, the actual experience when you use it looks nothing like the quality I expected. Also I multitask a lot when gaming and VR is very isolating imo.
The catch 22 of the VR2 is obvious: no units moving because of costs and limited games, no games being made because of limited unit sales. One bridge to help cross this content gap would be: an SDK that lets developers easily re-map first person game controls. In particular, remapping the “look around” thumb stick to allow it to be controlled by head movements in the headset. Wouldn’t need to integrate all the motion controls of the PSVR2 Sense controller, you’d still play the game via a standard dual sense controller, but looking around would look around in the game. If this could even be done at the PS5 hardware level instead of a specific game level software update, would be even better. This would obviously leave the game not quite as good as a dedicated ground-up VR game, such as not seeing in-game hand movements matching your real life movements (like in creed) but would still be a significant experience enhancement. They could then advertise big name cross-platform releases as “PSVR 2 enhanced, only on PlayStation!” While the dedicated games that are built ground-up for VR would be “made for PSVR 2.” Or something similar.

A couple of things to clarify pertinent to PSVR 2 and also Bungie. I don’t think PSVR 2 is just meeting a bad market. It’s arriving to the market late for what it is. For $500, I can get a headset that can go with me anywhere without cables, and I can hook it up to a PC, or even stream to it from a PC, if I want a higher fidelity experience. PSVR 2 failed the moment it needed a cable to be played. If a PSVR 3 ever exists, Sony needs to have an all-in-one headset that can go places while also having the ability to hook up or stream from a console. I love VR, but I travel, and I don’t want to lug a PC or console with me in order to play. As for Bungie, there’s still room for them to advise Sony studios. That isn’t chalked, because really good talent still works there even after layoffs. Hell, even those who got laid off might even be in very low level talks with Sony in the chance that the board does get wiped. Sony needs the talent. They don’t need the execs, and just because execs scrap talent doesn’t mean that talent is gone forever.
I think the days of Bungie's legendary single-player FPS campaigns are firmly behind us, they're just not that studio any more. But my dream is that Sony will right the ship on their short-sighted leadership & live service monetization, then encourage them to at least keep ONE single-player project in the oven while they're maintaining the live services. Bungie still has the talent to make satisfying FPS gameplay when they're not chasing maximum greed, and Sony has the ability to turn single-player games into huge blockbuster sellers, so feels like a no-brainer to me.
For VR2, I really wish they'd expand to vr experiences. Something like learning, travel and so on. Learning about the solar system by travelling through it on vr would be awesome. I'm sure there would be a market for that. And well, also, I wish I could use vr without getting sick, but I guess that's a different kind of issue.
Regarding Vita (in context of PSVR2): Proprietary memory & low-to-no builtin memory killed The Vita IMHO. You had to buy Sony’s (expensive) memory card to have a worthwhile device. (I say this as a Vita fan/owner.) After years of use, my memory card just got corrupted & it’s still somewhat cost prohibitive to-this-day to replace it.
Love your takes but I think your being a little bit too kind about Sony not releasing 1st party psvr2 games. Was psvr2 ever going to be a massive seller no, but without any support from Sony it has no chance to be even a modest success.

So its sad to say that i might not watch your stuff as much anymore but man you one of the OG ! keep making great content and u got a fan for life as far as i know!!
I wonder if Bungie advised on Helldivers. I kind of think they didn't, and I suspect the Factions 2 game was actually pretty good and they just gave bad advice.
Not really... I don't see anyone buying one by November 2024. good luck though. PSVR is dead and has been dead for a long time. By 2025 none will be sold anyway, might as well not sell them at all. Why bother?
It really is. 4k is already past the point of diminishing returns for any normal display, and the amount of resources required to get a modern game running at 8k is far beyond what a console can do this gen and the next. Upscaling could help but your just better off upscaling to 4k with 60-120fps and fancy graphics
I thought Sony should make games that have a VR mode, but can also be played without the headset. Like RE4 Remake and Village. This way they’re not losing sales by making a game specifically for the VR2.
I enjoy my vr2 almost everyday. Its 90% gran turismo racing with my wheel, and the other 10% is trying other vr stuff, and never really getting into it. But ive decicated this weekend, to playing green hell and some more no mans sky
One thing I think you can get custom images on the explore page is to get onto Google images (easiest way is to message a friend the url) and then find your picture there and screenshot it. I did it a while back to get a custom picture for my profile banner so don’t see why it wouldn’t work here as well?
It was the cost of the psvr2 that stopped its sales. If Sony had focused on PSVR2 with the PS5 pro & had Astrobot on PSVR2, it would have helped on multiple fronts.
ROFL Sonys New VR@ was fail on announcement. no reason to spend 600 on VR2 set when theres no content and the content they have still feels like generation 1 or most times worse.
Sony could invest in a company who can make hybrid VR ports of their flat screen PlayStation games. Similar to how though bought Nixxes to port their games to PC. Uncharted and Returnal could be so amazing. And those are in VR on PC through mods, so come on Sony let’s go!

The best consumer grade gaming PCs out today wouldn’t be able to run GTA6 at 4k 60. The PSVR2 is the cheapest VR headset with its impressive specs. VR is just prohibitively expensive still for a lot of people
Based on the history of how bungie like to do with the job in hands, the best thing for bungie to do is to buy themselves out of sony and return to be an independent studio.
Still don't get these graphical comments about FF7 rebirth. I play in performance mode and it still looks amazing. I will be interested on what sales data is for March though considering it came out on 29th Feb.
FF VII Rebirth runs at Performance Mode is Square Enix fault. They used an old version of a problematic engine to developed the game. Seriously, imo there are much better looking opem World games already for the system.
I think Psvr2 PC support is sony giving up on funding games for VR. They are trying to get sales on whats left of the headset and move on. Shame they gave up too soon. It could have blown up VR in general. The few AAA titles they put out were great.
Sony needs to let people watch videos and movies in PSVR 2. The ability to play 360 TH-cam, 3D movies, and local 3D video files would go a long way. They need to make those apps happen on PS5, or at the very least, let these things happen with PC connectivity.
Psvr2 will be fine if they support it all the way to ps6 and ps6 pro.. this should be a two gen headset.. and only get an upgrade to cut the cord or make it more comfortable.. also hope that Flat2Vr changes the landscape
I don’t think the CPU is really holding anything back. Der8aur did a pretty good video on CPU bottlenecks about a year ago. A better CPU helps on lower res, sure. But on higher res, it’s not going to matter as much (like 1440p+). The GPU is going to drive better IQ and FPS far more than the CPU. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like Sony accounted for upgrading hardware when designing the OS or stipulating developer requirements for the console. So no automatic upgrades for older PS5 titles. Which is the biggest problem I see with the PS5 Pro. Relying on devs to patch for console upgrades was proven to be a losing proposition last console generation.

It's so ridiculous I had to laugh. 4K isn't even the norm yet, tell me one game that does native 4K60fps? FF7 rebirth is on the NA charts twice. The twin pack that come with remake too is number 8.
Who actually cares about review scores. I’m more interested in hearing what reviewers have to say about a game than a number that tells you nothing

Even further, what draws VIEWERS to streams of these games over streams of games with really good stories? I know it’s all about my opinion, but I’ll never get it.

I don't personally own a VR headset for two reasons:
I have bad vision and need to wear glasses and because of the realistic representation of depth in modern VR headsets, the image will be blurry without my glasses and I'll end up getting a headache.

The problem is they're delivering jack shit . Destiny is dead marathon doesn't seem to be a gem either.
The whole problem is that Bungie can't even manage to stay afloat their own ship. Bungie wanting to stay independent isn't the problem.

Too expensive too
Bought a launch PSVR2 and sold it 4 months ago, the biggest thing for me was having watched loads of content, official trailers and stuff from streamers, the actual experience when you use it looks nothing like the quality I expected.

That PSVR2 Bloomberg article is the most "tell me you are funded by Meta without telling me you are funded Meta" article I have ever read.
I guess this was recorded on Thursday since you didn’t really touch on one of the week’s biggest stories which was the Dragons Dogma 2 launch debacle.
I like kepler's speculation that the Pro's CPU clock speed has more to do with future proofing backwards compatibility.
Did Melissa do zoomies on your arm? Ouch haha
I want that explore thing. Solo and focused is my thing.
Regarding Vita (in context of PSVR2):
Proprietary memory & low-to-no builtin memory killed The Vita IMHO.
You had to buy Sony’s (expensive) memory card to have a worthwhile device.
(I say this as a Vita fan/owner.)
After years of use, my memory card just got corrupted & it’s still somewhat cost prohibitive to-this-day to replace it.
Can you:
- view an image from USB
- take a screenshot using the PS5 UI
- then use that screenshot as the Explore background?
Extremely underrated. This guy puts so much effort and professionalism into all of his videos
Wait, where are the ratings at?
And after that it will be PSSD (PlayStation Spectral Super Developers) where many will be too PSSD to understand what that even means.
Mystic and Terrell should do a podcast honestly
Love your takes but I think your being a little bit too kind about Sony not releasing 1st party psvr2 games. Was psvr2 ever going to be a massive seller no, but without any support from Sony it has no chance to be even a modest success.
Been a big fan of yours for some years now. been a sony fan my whole life from the ps3 to the ps4 to the ps5. Just bought my first ever PC. So its sad to say that i might not watch your stuff as much anymore but man you one of the OG ! keep making great content and u got a fan for life as far as i know!!
Hot take: PS5 pro will be a backward compatible powerhouse with hardware PS3/2/1 emulation and card slots for vita games. A boy can dream.
Hot take: no
😂 Sony can't make money on making your dreams come true, but you can rebuy your old library digitally for a very reasonable price.
No.
I'm buying a Ps5 pro, can't wait.
I wonder if Bungie advised on Helldivers. I kind of think they didn't, and I suspect the Factions 2 game was actually pretty good and they just gave bad advice.
I think we have to save money for the 30th anniversary console and merch.
Why is this still not available in the uk? I remember them talking this feature up before launch and I’ve been waiting for it ever since
PS5 Pro gonna be great for PSVR2!!!
Not really... I don't see anyone buying one by November 2024. good luck though. PSVR is dead and has been dead for a long time. By 2025 none will be sold anyway, might as well not sell them at all. Why bother?
I think I’d rather buy an 8k 120 tv instead of a ps5 pro I want to be ready for the actually upgrade when it comes out hahaha
8k is a gimmick.
It really is. 4k is already past the point of diminishing returns for any normal display, and the amount of resources required to get a modern game running at 8k is far beyond what a console can do this gen and the next. Upscaling could help but your just better off upscaling to 4k with 60-120fps and fancy graphics
Don't worry, the PS5 Pro nor the PS6 will do 8K
Hope a system level gyroscope motion aiming software get implemented in the next major firmware update
PSVR2's failure is due in a large part to its lack of backwards compatibility with PSVR1 titles. I would have bought it Day 1 if it had that.
I would've liked a cordless headset as well.
It's dope to here "Dragon's Dogma 2nd Rise of the Ronin is doing well. I can't wait to pick them in a few weeks.
Why is the Explore page limited to US???
Apparently it has ads. Not allowed outside US. I saw a YT article about it. I'm in UK and would rather not have it if it comes with ads.
One thing I think you can get custom images on the explore page is to get onto Google images (easiest way is to message a friend the url) and then find your picture there and screenshot it. I did it a while back to get a custom picture for my profile banner so don’t see why it wouldn’t work here as well?
The FF7 Rebirth patch added a bug making the game impossible to platinum. Chapter 12 quest is impossible to complete.
Bro, I NEEED that shirt! 😲
It was the cost of the psvr2 that stopped its sales.
If Sony had focused on PSVR2 with the PS5 pro & had Astrobot on PSVR2, it would have helped on multiple fronts.
4K 60 was supposed to be achieved with the base ps5. I don’t see the pro doing 8k 30. I will be surprised is it does 4K 60
4k gaming was a lie, glad i still game on my old 1080p tv. 4k tv owners wasted their money
With Sony making lots of cutbacks, you want them to invest in VR some more? VR2 is an expensive product.
They either invest "some more" in the product they themselves have put on the market to continue to make it more enticing or they may as well do what everyone seems to want and can the thing.@@garfunkle5447
My earlier reply was deleted for some reason. All I said was that Sony either needs to invest in the product they themselves put out on the market or they may as well do what so many seem to want and 'can' it.@@garfunkle5447
Hope that UI update comes to the UK.
Ps5 “pro” not hitting 4k 60 on GTA6 is a joke the PCMR is going to stuff down our throats for years.
Maybe PS6 might play it at 4k60.
-PSVR2 is literally MORE expensive than a damn Ps5 in my region.
Playstation in general is becoming a joke.
The best consumer grade gaming PCs out today wouldn’t be able to run GTA6 at 4k 60. The PSVR2 is the cheapest VR headset with its impressive specs. VR is just prohibitively expensive still for a lot of people
I missed Dana Carvey. Glad to see he's doing well!
6:12 Oh yes! Mystic watches PuertoRock! 😁
Is he puerto rican?
I think the 8k is just so they can actually justify having it on the box this time round 😆
