1. Save views by adding different scenes 2. Label these views 3. Use different camera tools 4. Use section plane tool for interior views 5. Position camera tool on a point to precisely look the camera there 6. Change FOV using zoom > FOV 7. You can click and drag using position camera tool to orient what you are seeing
Very helpful tips. Thank you! I’ve tended to use the camera tools less frequently than I would like because I’ve often found them to be a bit frustrating to use effectively. These tips should help greatly.
Helpful video, thanks. Learned about the camera position click and drag to let it face in a direction immediately. One thing I struggle with when navigating with ScetchUp is when orbiting in tight spaces and the camera gets stuck behind a wall. It's a real mission to get out from behind that wall, since the camera controls move much less (since your focusing on a wall right in front of you). I was wondering what I could do in those cases? At the moment I either zoom in on pan a lot until I'm out or I just hide the geometry in front of me. I probably just need to use the look around tool more instead of orbiting. I also feel ScetchUp could really benifit from WASD-like camera movevent controls.
I already use scenes a lot, but never knew how to adjust the camera view, especially for interiors. Very helpful, but it will take some exercise to get rid of bad old habits !
Thanks, that was really helpful. Tip I just figured out - interior views and some camera tools (esp walking) don't work if you're in parallel projection (which I find is easier to draw in) - you must be in perspective mode to use them. :-) Brought to you by the School of "Why isn't it working???????" Lol
Great video. I am a beginner and I found the navigation not very intuitive to be honest. I would like to be able to use my right mouse button for dragging Sketchup doesnt differenciate between click-release and click-hold. I would like to set click release to the drop down menu and click-hold for drag. In addition to this I would like to have the ability to "quick cast" tools. Quick cast in video games is a great time saver. The tool is applied instead of selected while holding the key. You safe time because you dont have to right click. So in conclusion my dream would be in the system preferences Sketchup letting you select between: Clickt to Select-Tool like we have now but also hold to select tool or quickcast to apply tool.
Great vid. I was goofing around with the Position Camera option before I watched this and now I seem to be stuck with the view. How do I get back to my original viewing method? My camera seems to make the walls closest to my camera location disappear.
Awesome, awesome, awesome video. Thank you soo much. I am currently using 2021 version of sketchup so if there are any new tools or other tips n tricks, could you please share a video about it because this is very important for my interior designs, especially when working with small spaces that needs to look more open and not Claustrophobic. Great video
Good day sir , i hope you can help me. What is the name of the plugin that makes you view the front, side, top view. that can help me in making the house. the plugin in the right of plugin named (Style). can you tell me the name of it?
I followed your advice today. So now all my building drawings has four separate named views. And shift creates a new view. This one tip alone has dramatically speed up my work. Thanx.

A keyboard shortcut for "add view" will really speed things up.
I suppose it depends on how often you add camera views, but yeah, that could be a timesaver!
