Found a better example of how an Allied radio connects a 6U5 to the circuit. See schematic for model D312. I'm looking this crap up from the 1948 Radio Industry Red Book from Howard Sams. Can find tube compliment, part indentifications for things like power and IF transformers, speakers, and controls. Good book to get for the old radios 1930's and 1940s! The second edition of this book is often available really cheap and came out in 1950.

Just out of curiosity, what make was the fried transformer you pulled out of this radio ?
There was no markings on the original.
