it is - its likely one of a few survivors - this 1989 was a canada only edition and its all there! Still drives like the day it rolled off the lot (maybe a bit better now with the shock updates)
This video was a godsend. Figuring out how the airbox cam out was made so simple after watching this my 91 DT 200R has been running like a pig lately so i was trying to get the carbie off to give it a blow our with the air. But after removing the bolts couldnt figure out how the dang airbox came out. A bit of good ol elbow grease. And out she comes. Now to reassble.
Will be following the build series closely so i have some reference for what goes where. Hope to see an engine tear down at some stage so ive got some reference material at hand. Not enough people doing DT200s on youtube
@@THE1NATEMEISTER THANK-YOU THANK-YOU and THANK-YOU!! I really appreciate the feedback. There are a ton of these bikes out there but no one has any video servicing them. Stay tuned and we will be showing more maintenance and how-to vids. Cheers
Thats my thinking as well for when I tackle this on my own. A great exercise to do over the winter for sure. My bike is tight and quiet now and rides better than new with the shock upgrades! Thanks for watching and the comment! Lets Ride.
I have a 96 dt200r. Such a fun bike. I wish I knew enough to do a tear down and rebuild someday. Almost at 20k km on it. If you can find a tuned pipe, it really wakes it up. Mine came with one and the original as a spare. the original pipe was only on it for 24 hrs after purchase.
its not that hard to tear down if you follow this video - just keep track of everything. I would love to see what this does with a pipe! But i do love how quiet it is. I am uoloading the Part 2 video this week. Wait til you see it completed!
Here is a quick vid of my bike posted by the previous owner a few months before I bought it. I'll admit it is loud but since I do mainly city driving with it in Montreal, I prefer being heard, it adds a measure of security. th-cam.com/video/YHwvzvMsm7I/w-d-xo.html
I have a 95 200r 3ET Im restoring and rebuilding, I think mines a Japan import. Yours must be a Canada model is it? its a beauty that's all i know! I'm in Ont Canada as well
I'm in Thedford about 10 minutes from Grand bend, Mine had a purple frame and white plastics but there in rough shape and were repainted terribly so I ordered DTR plastics from Portugal! There the same bike basically
Hi Jesse...just letting u know in case your DT200R is running, there is a vintage dirt bike rally in Huntsville this weekend (trails, enduro & motocross)..So far we have three DT's going..Can send u the link if your interested?
Looks like it's been messed with that 200r it's got wrong indicators & rear tail light & the 200r never had a tachometer. that cable guide is on the wrong side on the bottom yoke
@@mudbrats yes I notice your coil was mounted near air box aswell they must have a very long coil lead how come it's not mounted under the petrol tank on the frame.& yes them indicators look like thire of a tzr. & tailight looks like a kmx
@@mudbrats have a look above the power valve servo their should be a bracket where it mounts too orless their is something different that is mounted thire & that's why they did it that way but I just fought it would lose power with the coil lead been so long. I live & breathe these dt125r all my life I've own them but never had the 200r I fought that the only difference between them is 200cc & two radiators plus aluminium swing.whats the black thing near the left radiator side on the frame is it for oil in the frame because I noticed a big nut in the bottom of the down tube yano where the exhaust mounts on at the front what is it a drain nut or something
The 1989 DT200r did indeed have a tachometer and that type tail light..I know because I bought one new back in 89..I also bought the first dt200 in 84..the only components they shared was the tail light, the mirrors and the instruments.
Watch Part 2 (Days 2 and 3) Here: th-cam.com/video/LJYBIidcRZ0/w-d-xo.html
