    Lifetime Giants Fan here. That game was incredible, hats off to the Dodgers for a well played game. Literally any other outcome than what happened Thursday night would have left me satisfied. Strike out looking down the middle. Homerun caught at the wall. Literally anything. The Giants by all accounts had a improbable season and I was just enjoying the ride like hell, but for it to be ended by a clear no swing call FOR THE ENTIRE SERIES. That's rough man. The Dodgers earned the W, but the umps gotta let the Giants themselves make the final out.

    My favorite thing about the way the NLDS ended, is Dodger fans trying to justify it as "karma" for the July 22nd game. Let's compare the elimination game of a playoff series to the ending of a game from the regular season for two teams that would make the playoff either way.

    • @markmayate8923
      @markmayate8923 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The July game would have had them at a tie for the division. Imagine that ending to an already epic season 😳. Imagine that a couple of check swings could have changed everything.

    • @thecarrotmaster7073
      @thecarrotmaster7073 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      thing is (and im not a dodgers fan) it would have put the dodgers in first place provided everything went the way it did, meaning the dodgers would have had home field advantage and the giants would have had to play in the wild card. it isn't karma but a couple of "checked" swings can change everything.

    I think that the check swing call was the biggest mess up by the umpires this season just because of the fact that it was the final out in game 5 which was the ELIMINATION GAME to go to the NLCS. The weight behind that call and that out made it so much more important than a random bad call from any other point this season

  • @seangalvin672

    that Bryant at bat in the 4th inning of game 5 cost us our season. 2 pitches well off the plate and the umpire calls them strikes. Had that been called correctly, We would've scored a run there and the game would've been a 2-2 tie in the 9th inning.

      The Giants season ended I July when LA got Max and the Giants didn’t add pitching. At the end of the day the Giants lost because they didn’t have the arms to keep up with LA. Even look at Game Three. Yes the Giants won but LA had Max go what 7 or 8 innings meaning the pen was rested for Game s 4 & 5. My fear all year was there just wasn’t enough pitching for us to match up with LA or potentially MIL in October. Turned out to be true.

    The reason the umpires called it a strike is because they wanted to go home

    Umps are doing this on purpose. I’m convinced. They want robot umps. Personally I don’t. But the way they call. Is a joke.

    0:47 If that ball had been a bit more up he would have hit it so it was a swing. Also the official mlb rulebook says that any attempt to hit the ball is a swing,

    not only was gabe morales the umpire that missed the ruf and flores calls for the giants, he also missed a swing by seager earlier in the series when he was at 3rd base

  • @MIKELIN8
    @MIKELIN8 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thanks for mentioning the Ruf swing, and saying it was obviously a swing. Since the teams ended the season one game apart, that swing (which would have ended that game) was the difference between 1st and 2nd place in the division.

    The strike zone calls are tough. Sometimes you just miss one. A lot of these are terrible. But out of context it’s tough too because the biggest issue with umps is consistency. As long as they aren’t horrible and have a consistent zone, players will adapt and be ok with it. It’s when out of the blue an ump calls pitches they haven’t called all game that causes a problem.

    The thing that burns me the most is that anything could've happened even if the odds were stacked against Flores in an 0-2 count against an amazing pitcher and the ump took any possibility away. Obviously props to the dodgers for showing up on offense when it mattered even tho I despise them. Only thing to look forward to is 2022 which is an even year. The superstition must be true if we finished the season first and still get knocked out of the playoffs in this fashion.

  • @matthewl40

    The Wilmer Flores K was definitely a terrible call. Especially in an elimination game. Worst calls of all time going back a bit, Derek Jeter’s home run when the fan interfered, and Julio Lugo called safe at home when he wasn’t even close to being safe. He never even touched home plate!

    What makes baseball such a great sport in my opinion is the level of autonomy attributed to the game as opposed to the NFL or NBA. So seeing umpires disrupt the flow of the game to such a ridiculous degree is particularly upsetting. Definitely should look into bot officials for HP.

    The McCutchen baseline one is especially bad because the call at first was actually called wrong too. He was out at first and it was clarified after review. So on that play the umpires called McCutchen out (who was safe) and Joyce safe (who was out).
