Awesome breakdown. I think you're right about it being a dual problem of scheme and execution. I have a feeling that in the second part of the season everything will start to flow and our playmakers will start popping up.
If it hasn't made progress in the 1st Half of the season, chances are it won't in the second half. I hope does by some miracle, but chances are very slim
5:00 "I usually expect a flat zone, but they're playing deeper". Duh! About 4 weeks late. Reminds of first play in TB game where Evans ran right by Stephens for wide TD & commentator said "He had to cover the flat". I screamed *"NO HE DIDN'T...!"*
Added nuance to that play - the other WR motioned across (the one Williams carried deep). So dual WR to that side running deep, the flat defender has to carry.
The problem is John Harbaugh. After the Bills game which was the best the defense played, Harbaugh brought Dean Pees in as the defensive consultant. Dean Pees’ philosophy is conservative, bend but don’t break however, Zack Orr’s philosophy is aggressive fast and physical which the players alluded to during preseason. It also seemed like the style of play that the players on this team wanted. Football is just as much mental as physical. If the players aren’t happy it can negatively affect their play. This defense has Dean Pees’ hand prints all over it. I don’t understand the move because Dean Pees was forced out as the Ravens’ coordinator for the same conservative philosophy. Why didn’t Harbaugh instruct Orr to just duplicate the style and philosophy of Mike Macdonald from last season and brought in a consultant, if needed, with a more aggressive approach?
@@michaelmullin6702 They've given up less points and yards in every game since then. So, yes it has. That was not my point though. Listen, I don't think Pees is the answer but to say Harbaugh brought him in after the teams best defensive performance is simply incorrect. Harbaugh has his issues, but the entire premise of the comment is based on a piece of mis or disinformation.
Agree 1000% bro Belichik said you can't blame Zack he's never been a DC all his help left Mike Anthony (and the other cat) He's alone he needs help.. my thoughts def are since we have all bout Geno Jadaveon and PQ lets duplicate that, any new comer would have support because everybody's in the know they'd be able to say yo do this go there on this scheme… Plus I would counsult with Rex Leslie Frazier same thing Antonio Pierce did with the old heads, Mike would prob give him a few pointers but has a team to coach so Zack definitely is on his own and its Harbaughs fault and Im sick of him… as for Dean👎🏾👎🏾
Defense looked better this game. I think they are going to gel and peak at the right time. Ardarius and Marcus looked much better working together than the other combinations they’ve tried back there. My only gripe during the game is I think Wiggins should take some of stephens snaps.
Whats crazy is how much raw and proven talent this defense possesses. We dont have a talent issue in Balto., its more of what you said, partial execution and partial scheme. Might be able to throw in some coaching as well. Either way, im waiting for it to all of a sudden just "click". If and when that happens its over for the AFC. Just start clicking on all cylinders.
@PessimisticRavensFam Not necessarily. The best version of our defense was more of a zone that became man once engaged imo. Or man, one side and zone the other. Against Allen and even Bo Nix, it makes sense and all the scrambling trends. It's tough, though, because just identifying the route a little bit more can really improve the coverage relationship.
I feel like we are playing a lot more zone to help the pass rushers as well. Having the routes take just that split second more to develop through the zones will hopefully give our current rushers a second more to get home. If that came out as english lol
The best way to help pass rushers is press coverage to be honest, it slows the receiver down a lot and forces the qb to hold the ball longer, playing soft zone does just the opposite
One thing to notice about potential SB..if we face a team like the Lions..their OL is gonna disrupt our LBs how they did with GreenBay, we really need to address a elite pass rusher to counter this
Great technical analysis. I feel like just looking at the stats. Ravens are best run defense in league averaging something like 60 yards or less - its ridiculously efficient. Fans problem is with us defending the pass, which Ravens are ranked 32nd - dead last in the league. We know we can stop the run, we cant stop the pass - its simple and its a communication issue thats all. Every big blown play wasnt some 1 on 1 man being beaten, it was literally 2 guys covering the same player and leaving people open
Base Tampa 2 seems really outdated against modern offenses. I can't think of a worse mismatch of what had been already a core Ravens defense issue (linebackers unable to cover the gaps above their zones) than running a scheme that's even more reliant on linebackers covering large gaps. Tampa 2 was also extremely reliant on having a front 4 that could get consistent pressure (hi Dwight Freeney), which the Ravens lack. That also explains a lot of the coverage busts that game (thankfully Bo Nix apparently just overthrows everything).
@@RoadGradersFB Is there a feasible trade/move you think the Ravens could make to improve the pass rush? I was honestly more miffed the Chiefs managed to snipe Uche more than being able to trade for Hopkins.
SB defenses shouldn't be bend but don't break. They need to attack. I think better designed rushes and blitzes are the answer. Get teams in 3rd and long
Dean Pees did simplify things, because for whatever reason the Ravens were busting coverages at an unthinkable rate. Easy to blame Pees. He's not the DC. He's not on the field
We need to run more man cov, the zone communication is not there.. plain and simple. Pless these WRs to disrupt timing and give the Dline a chance to get home. whn teams run those close formations, u got put hands on the TEs off the line.
Scheme not built for Roquan, hes great in short area, and the multiple deep coverage schemes he shouldnt be forced to do is making him second guess himself. Zach Orr is 100% of the problem here not understanding how to play to any of the players strengths. Could've fooled me he was the LB coach, hes acting like he walked through the door yesterday.
Roquan's legs and body are not poised to spring into action. Too loose. Unprepared. What happened? Look at 14 and 23. Used to anticipate plays and call them. KVN should be wearing the green dot.
he is obviously playing differently in a more conservative defensive scheme than last year. but who tf isn't? college qbs could dissect the ravens d. just ain't that good a scheme.
I think the defense is not as bad as the stats indicate the quarterbacks have been making perfect throws I believe the defense is going to get better each game started with Denver
We need to take Roquan off the field for 3rd and long downs and drop Kyle Hamilton down and move Trent to middle in the dime. Trent is more natural in coverage and athletic.
If you saw the KC game last night and saw WR Hopkins the Ravens aren't beating KC. Baltimore please go after Crosby even if you have to give up 2 first round picks which is nothing because it will be close to 2 second round picks.🤷🏿♂️🤷🏻♀️

Yup, all he does is hire people that either come from someone that was already here (whether they did or didn't work out) or Michigan
Dan Pees was hired on October 9th after the Bengals game
@@lariojaalta890 has it gotten any better since Oct 9th?

What I noticed is that Roquan often has eyes on the qb rather than the route right behind him. Also a lack of press coverage and 5 yard reroute bumps.
That’s sort of what you have to do in zone coverage as a LB

We have no pass rush
Hey Cole first one here. Some of the best sports breakdown.
The defense was still suspect. The Ravens were fortunate Nix is a rookie. A more experience QB will not miss the throws Bo did.
One thing to notice about potential SB..if we face a team like the Lions..their OL is gonna disrupt our LBs how they did with GreenBay, we really need to address a elite pass rusher to counter this

It's definitely not time to hit the panic button because we're gonna win the Superbowl but we're definitely not perfect but neither is nobody
From what I have seen no one is looking at the routes being run they are just looking at the Qb when in zone.
I wouldn't mind a rookie DC if this was on the come up, but the window is now for BMore and they needed an experienced play caller as DC..

Burrow won’t miss those wide open receivers. So knowing that, what do you do, Mr Orr?
Thanks Sir 💯
Smith got far to comfortable. He looks slow & he looks "nfl fat". You can see it in his play.
Yes on Roquan no on Trent he's still learning

DEFENSE CANT STOP BELOW AVERAGE QBS, DO; THE OFFENSE HAS TO OUT SCORE OPPONENTS
Roquan and Trenton were bad before they switched to dean pees, so I’d find a different statement to stand on.
roquan and queen were a duo to be feared
