For the longest time I've actually thought Warren DeMartini and Robbin Crosby of Ratt is one of the best 80's guitar duos and Warren is one of the most underrated guitarists of the 80's, Robbin compliments him well. John Sykes in Whitesnake was a monster on guitar too, David Coverdale got jealous and that's partly why he fired him then later regretted it.

So smooth using ICP's icon to diss Kiss. Almost fooled me. I was so ready to jump on this. There's plenty of 90s cringe, so glad you're not mixing it up.
Hi Mike, you should give a go to The Warning. It's a Mexican band of 3 sisters that have a pretty heavy style. "Evolve" and "Choke" are good options to start with them 😊
Along with Ozzy, I think David Coverdale was quite solid at getting excellent musicians to his band as Whitesnake is essentially his solo band. He had Jon Lord and Ian Paice, John Sykes, Vivian Campbell, Steve Vai, Doug Aldrich, Tommy Aldridge, Reb Beach... am I forgetting somebody... Ozzy propably has his wife Sharon to thank for getting also the best in business to work with his husband. I love the "blizzard" band, and when he had Jake E Lee, Rudy Sarzo and Tommy Aldridge. I'm not a fan of Zakk Wylde though.
Slayer was Death before Death existed? Death was a progressive type sound. Slayer’s first albums were only about a half hour long. Death was ruled by lead guitar. Slayer was thrash and was mostly rhythm guitar. It’s apples vs. oranges.
100% on Anthrax. One band I expected on this list was Savatage. I really enjoyed a couple of their albums. Definitely a lot cringe moments. Criss Olivia was a beast!
Agreed re Axl. I loved them back in the 80’s and into the 90’s. Then til now, I just cannot handle his caterwauling that people call ‘singing’. Awful. Some great songwriting though, for awhile there…
You did not just say that about Megadeth (especially KIMBABIG, Peace Sells, and Rust in Peace) and Slayer. I’m offended lmao but for real I understand, you either love them or you hate them.
It seems Motorhead is incredibly underappreciated in America. They don't even have a Gold certified album (in terms of sales), they don't have hit songs, they barely had any success in the US. Motorhead is more successful, recognized, appreciated and beloved in Europe (esp. in their homeland Britain).
i don't think i have ever heard someone call Slayer similar to Death, i don't get it at all. Chuck is a way better riff, solo and songwriter than anyone on Slayer. Also the music is completely different
Shocked at the high placement of '80's Ozzy. By the mid-80s Ozzy was a total mess again, and he was turned down by the late (and great) Gary Moore as the first choice replacement for the late Randy Rhoads. If you put Manowar into S-tier then '80s Sabbath needs to be moved up because some of them were '80s Sabbath roadies. Tony Martin-era Sabbath has also got remaster coming out soon, so worth another look. '80s Metallica should likely be moved down a notch because they changed their sound and became a big band in the '90s.
Megadeth dont write good song? thats just not true Have you ever heard Tornado of Souls, Holy Wars, Hanger 18, In My Darkest Hour, Wake Up Dead or Symphony of Destruction

Nah the Anthrax place is a bit too much, they're definitely better than Slayer at least. Joey is one of the better vocalists from the Big 4, and Scott Ian's riffs go hard. But yeah production on their 80's album does suck
Glad Bon Jovi got a good rating. I 100% get why people hate them. But there are too many songs that will get stuck in your head to just write off because they're not objectively bad in any sense. Plus they have a decent variety in their catalog over time. And no, Richie Sambora doesn't get anywhere near enough credit, he's a good song writer and great with the guitar.

Took me like the first 3 MF albums to start liking the voice but I powered through the discography regardless and went back afterwards.
But man those riffs and solos though are SO GOOD
Absolutely God tier songwriting as well
For the longest time I've actually thought Warren DeMartini and Robbin Crosby of Ratt is one of the best 80's guitar duos and Warren is one of the most underrated guitarists of the 80's, Robbin compliments him well. John Sykes in Whitesnake was a monster on guitar too, David Coverdale got jealous and that's partly why he fired him then later regretted it.
What I would to see is you reacting to Def Leppard’s new album, would love your take on them now. Surprised you didn’t give Rick Allen any props only having one arm
Headless Cross is to this day among my favorite metal albums from the 80s. Liked it so much more than anything else in their entire catalogue.
Ratt has to be atleast B tier, riff writing for Back For More, Wanted Man, You're in Love, Way Cool Jr, Body Talk, Slip of the Lip, Never Use Love is one my personal favs. Also would've loved to see Scorpions and Cinderella on this list
Check out my new metal band Lymphoma Gorilla, now on tour
Yes, Manowar transcends all tiers. Also I love how their official photo is the meme picture in itself lol.
“MANOWAR!!! FUCK YEAH MANOWARRRRRRRR” - Manowar
I'd bump Black Sabbath, Dokken and Whitesnake a tier (or two), the rest seems pretty on point.
When Mike showed that clip of Kiss and thought Vinnie Vincent was a woman 🤣
LOVED the FZero metal mix rip up the sky at the 10.30 mark. Mute City. Fantastic Tune.
Leopards are awesome. Officially in Tier Zoo's A tier.
I wished that I could be as high as you were when you made this list. Judas Priest, King Diamond B tier and Black Sabbath and Motorhead C tier. Holy shit! 😅 Stop listening to metal and start listening to country my guy.
Great video, but where's Quiet Riot
I'm surprised I didn't see Accept anywhere on this tier list considering that their Koolaid song is kind of a meme on your channel, even if that particular song is more recent. I'd be interested to see where they'd land on this list.
The riff from Balls To The Wall is far, far better than Motley Crue's entire career.
@@Powerslave214 To be fair, Accept still makes good music. Tf happened to Motley? I think Vince ate the crue.
I'm naming my next band Lymph Seabiscuit in honor of this video.
Can't remember David Coverdale's name?? Wow, I thought you were a rock expert!
Joe Elliott as well lol. He gave them good Tier list tho, so it made me wonder how he didn't know their names lol
So smooth using ICP's icon to diss Kiss. Almost fooled me. I was so ready to jump on this. There's plenty of 90s cringe, so glad you're not mixing it up.
That picture of Ronnie James Dio looks like Howard Stern. Wait, Kiss is ICP, maybe that is Howard Stern lol.
Its Carla Cheers. Its not Dio. It's Danny Devito's Wife😅😅. Im not kidding. It's Litterally a picture of Rhea Perlman
@@cliffhass9158 That makes it even funnier.
@@brians1793 yeah I know. But I don't know if if he did it on Purpose or accident. Its hilarious either way
@@cliffhass9158 well he did have ICP as Kiss😂😂😂
@@rothed16 really? 😅🤣. Then This video may be my favorite he has ever done
Death was ruled
by lead guitar. Slayer was thrash and was mostly rhythm guitar. It’s apples vs. oranges.
100% on Anthrax. One band I expected on this list was Savatage. I really enjoyed a couple of their albums. Definitely a lot cringe moments. Criss Olivia was a beast!
I should have included Savatage
I do love me some Savatage. Can't deny lot of it is cheesy as heck but I love cheese lol.
Calling the leopard the least fierce cat 💀
Having Metallica in S and Megadeth in B will leave a lot of people butthurt. Seems like a valid placement to me.
It seems Motorhead is incredibly underappreciated in America. They don't even have a Gold certified album (in terms of sales), they don't have hit songs, they barely had any success in the US. Motorhead is more successful, recognized, appreciated and beloved in Europe (esp. in their homeland Britain).
all he said for ratt is so accurate
A Prog snob with bad taste in music? Next you'll tell me water is wet
“Hmmmm, the pretentious snob really is made of pretentious snob here”
Well it's not that bad when he has Maiden and Metallica in S tier for me, but Judas and Megadeth in B is where I get annoyed.
i don't think i have ever heard someone call Slayer similar to Death, i don't get it at all.
Where's Spinal Tap?
I plan to get Knight School. There has been some weird shit going on with my card, however once that is fixed, I shall get Knight school.
Got a new band name: Lymphoma Gorilla
No WASP?
Mike I’m guessing You love Maiden so give us your top 20 Maiden songs. 🤷♂️
Megadeth dont write good song? thats just not true
Have you ever heard Tornado of Souls, Holy Wars, Hanger 18, In My Darkest Hour, Wake Up Dead or Symphony of Destruction
M-head was the first speed metal, no? That’s something.
Dokken is absolutely my favourite band to come out of the 80s, George Lynch is so underrated
I can't find the Brian seagraves vocalist video
Def Leppard and Manowar above Megadeth? What in the hell?
If you think The Black Sabbath 80’s catalog was shit, what’s your opinion on their 70’s catalog ?
surprised he didn't like gnr's deep cuts. I feel like some of the deep cuts on use your illusion are some of the best songs in gnr's whole catalogue and have some of the best guitar work. their deep cuts help push them to A tier for me above Bon Jovi and Motley Crue
as a king diamond/mercyful fate fan i understand you but i can't imagine any other singer in this band
I love 80’s Testament, The Legacy is my favorite album of all time, definitely recommend
But my favorite 80’s of all time is Voivod
Imagine putting Bon Jovi under 80s metal tier list but not Accept or Queensryche 😮
Nah the Anthrax place is a bit too much, they're definitely better than Slayer at least. Joey is one of the better vocalists from the Big 4, and Scott Ian's riffs go hard.
But yeah production on their 80's album does suck
Another great solo guitarist with same level as Randy Rhoads is Criss Oliva from Savatage! RIP both of them..
No stream?
Glad Bon Jovi got a good rating. I 100% get why people hate them. But there are too many songs that will get stuck in your head to just write off because they're not objectively bad in any sense. Plus they have a decent variety in their catalog over time. And no, Richie Sambora doesn't get anywhere near enough credit, he's a good song writer and great with the guitar.
Damn, no love for anthrax and Judas Priest. But it's OK. The video was very entertaining.
15:43 skip to where it matters
I was ready to hate you until you gave Manowar their just placing. Now I am your brother in metal
Many of the metal and rock bands of the '80s formed what the sound of '80s metal and rock would be going forward? You don't say.
