It IS indeed a CG hand, I was working as a camera runner for Double Negative VFX when this movie came out, driving back and forth from Pinewood to our offices on Shaftesbury Avenue delivering and maintaining digi-double capture rigs. No-one noticed the gloved Daniel Craig during this sequence and it was never re-shot. They only realised the blunder once they got into post production. Andrew Whitehurst was the VFX Supe on this, I don't know whether it was him who fixed it, but he would know the truth of just how much of a nightmare it would have been to fix it.

That entire James Bond section about the glove is the sort of stuff that has kept me coming back to this channel since the first VFX Artists React. SO entertaining.

Especially now that Hollywood is in on it and they put out this "behind the scenes" clip with the CGI glove added in!

One other possible theory... maybe the gloveless shots were simply reshoots.

I was thinking about the same! Or the behind the scenes bit with the glove was a seperate shot and the glove hand holding scene was just a continuity error. This whole thing is funny whatever thr case is.
On other note: I have seen this movie for 5+ times and never even noticed the gloved hand bit afyer the fight lol

Here's my guess for the "CGI Hand" thing: They shot it once with the gloves; they realized "Wait, he can't be wearing those gloves because of his gun."; they RESHOT the scene, but FORGOT to reshoot the part where he's holding they other guy's hand.

    • @1FatLittleMonkey

@@martijnvenhuizen2155 Assuming they did replace the hands, it's simple - the actor and director forgot about palm print gun. When you're on set shooting the scene you have so much stuff going on that it's easy to miss the detail like that. Having worked in the VFX industry I'm a big fan of real-world reference. Having the interaction with the environment AND actors/extras is so valuable. Also having the reference of the dust/colour/light interaction on the vehicle is invaluable for the replacement. The Bond hand replacement is just the kind of stupid thing I have seen too much of in the industry - it doesn't surprise me at all. Unforgiveable to have the continuity error tho! 😅 the way I would do it is to track the gun into the shot (will be invisible - just used for occlusion and shadows) and parent the hand to it then do all the small stuff like fingers (and make sure the wrist is locked to the plate) Lighting and comp would be a whole other matter! 😉

James Bond... It's actually really smart what they did, practically nobody noticed the continuity error, and nobody noticed the cg hand... they didn't notice the cg hand because their focus was elsewhere... the shot with the glove, everybody's entire focus would be on the cg hand and would have made it super easy to notice... It's also something they didn't notice until after they were done with shooting so it's not as simple to just go back and match everything else with two new and separate hands... I think they nailed it. They also gave us something fun to go back and find, bit like an easter egg, I love finding continuity errors. Good Job!
