I think it’s on the DVD community for the movie where John Carpenter says the reason they used models instead of actual computer generated images for Escape from New York is because it was cheaper to do the models.
And it would have been impossible to model multiple buildings with reasonable detail at the time. They would have had to composite and align multiple buildings into one shot, making it very expensive. It would have been easy to do with an Amiga VideoToaster with Lightwave, but that wasn't a thing until 1991.
Ok I got one for you guys (said the comment no one will see). Steven Spielberg claimed there are zero stop motion shots in Jurassic Park. Sonic 3 deserves major kudos in one of these videos. The cloning effects of Jim Carrey and scenes of Sonic running through the city, as well as so many scenes are pure eye candy and perfection.
That was one of the first movies I watched and considered the filmmaking aspect of it. I believe the effect was an optical printer process that took a very long time. The shoot took an ordinary amount of time. They weren't using digital effects at the time.
You should check out War of the Worlds vfx. There is a shot when Tom Cruise and kids after they have stolen the blue minivan and end up on the freeway going past lots of still traffic. Fight: The chateau raid in Brotherhood of the Wolf
Animation: Asuka's last stand from End of Evangelion
VFX: Death Blossom scene from The Last Starfighter
Asuka fight with the eva series is an absolute masterpiece! Good suggestion!
I've mentioned the Last Starfighter in a previous comment. Crazy high-res CG for the time, even beyond 4K with extremely high bit depth. They went all out at the very edge of what was possible.
8:29 why didn't they just change the voice of the gun description to say there is a chip in your hand and the gun. This would have saved a million dollars of pointless work. 1 overdub would dix this.
Its incredibly dumb.
Wouldn't be smart for a spy to have any kind of transmitter on him. Especially in a place he can't easily reach to get rid of it.
The gloves are a really great example of why a palm print activated pistol is a bad idea.
The helicopter thing is something they also did in Star Trek Insurrection for a shot where a shuttlecraft does a low pass over the ground.
When it comes to the Bond shot, you could always try emailing EON Productions and asking.
Jordan that description of intergrating dust in composites was so good. Really appreciate such useful info in these videos!
Please do react to "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.". Lots of robots, spaceships, time travel, gravitonium, Inhumans and of course more importantly Ghost Rider, Lola etc.
It's got quite some stuff to get its own episode.
And it's all quite impressive under the dwindling budget with each consecutive season
Yeah, I’ve brought this up before. Remember the dude who got ripped apart by those crystals? That was insane. And incredibly gory for the show itself.
@kaenopiyou make a good point.
Betterhelp shill again. I know u see us corridor crew. Stop shilling BH
@@KING_PHILLIP Yeah that guy from S6. Even everything that Alveus(Hive) does is quite a spectacle
The finger movement at around 7:14 and 7:15 looks like simplified animation. It's too smooth and perfect. I'm pretty convinced it's CG hands.
The river taking out the bridge scene in Dante's Peak still holds up! I remember seeing that scene in the theater back in the day and my mind was blown! 🤯
I'm surprised they haven't talked more about Blomkamp's work. They should definitely do a reaction to Oats Studios. There were some pretty good short movies on his page.
Probably saving it for when they can get him on the show, they've been really close a few times before.
@alfheim7579 Well, I hope they can get him on. That would be an awesome catch, and great to watch. I think it's disappointing he didn't get to go through with directing an Aliens movie.
@@alfheim7579 wdym really close?
They're actually huge fans of Blomkamp and have talked about various pieces here and there
Especially as the mo cap work in District 9, lays the ground work for all mo cap stuff from then onwards
You've done some Star Trek before, but not covered the Enterprise-D crash in Generations. It still looks great 30 years later
12:20 Sam jokes about the CIA giving classified info to the movie... THEY ACTUALLY DID! It wasnt about the helicopter but about the compound. Insider has an interview and John kiriakou talks about how the CIA gave the info to make the film better even though it was treason to give that info
The CIA works with media companies all of the time. "Operation Mockingbird" was the Genesis of them feeding info to news outlets and movie producers to help sway public opinion.
If you guys cap the year off with reacting to the 1969 Batman Movie effects, I can die happy.
Finally a video on 2 of my favorite subjects: prototype aircraft and Daniel Craig's hands
Holy shit, Sam has a Rhapsody shirt! A man of taste.

On the topic of "covered before but scenes missed":
Y'all promised a Part 2 to Harry Potter that we never got - what happened between the Troll in the first movie and the Basilisk in the second movie when it suddenly looked very good and real!
Easy. Money.
A lot of the basilisk closeups were practical. A real puppet is usually going to look better than cgi. Like Jurassic Park vs Jurassic World
@ exactly… More money… So they could afford that
I also remember there was a controversial video with 2 guests - swordsman and stunt woman, and woman was just sitting in silence for the most of it. People got mad that corridor is sexist like that, but they said "we made 2 videos with those guests, and in first one swordsman is the main talker, while in the second it's gonna be the opposite". Did they released the second one in the end? I'm sure, that I didn't see it happening, and I watch all their videos 🤔
“CG hands or not, this is dumb” might be the funniest update to this issue 😂
Vector graphics were a thing in the 1980s. The displays are quite rare these days.
Solid episode folks! Check out Elevation, continuity check in the first 10 minutes! Morena Baccarin's character loads a single round "backwards" into a magazine and then loads magazine correctly into the weapon and fires it!
Did I imagine the single round being loaded backwards?
Happy Holidays!
Her name is Morena Baccarin :)
@@FairNuff oops you're absolutely correct....don't know what I was thinking.....old as dirt !
Thanks for the correction!!
"Those old school TV's for the aesthetic" .... as if we had anything better at that time, lol....
Well, we did have full-color TVs back then. They could have faked a computer display using video played on a color TV. It's supposed to be a computer screen in the _future._
But the audience was used to black and green computer monitors.
Nick as Snake is pure gold!
That sequence was awesome!
Jordan's Otacon impression during the ad-read was bloody spot on
You guys have covered the mask transforms in the Mission Impossible series before, but the final mask transform from Dead Reckoning where Vanessa Kirby switches back to being Hailey Atwell is FLAWLESS. Please cover that!!!
It’s rare to catch an error in a CorridorCrew video, you’re usually on point guys! But on 8:45 you did miss “commment”, so… Gotcha!
Last time I was this early, Cats still had human fingers on their background dancers.
Fun tip: That stealth helicopter prop is now at some collectors yard outside of an air field in El Mirage CA
I just laughed so hard at the BetterHelp ad where he has the eye patch upside-down - the bit that goes against the nose is on his eyebrow 🤣🤣🤣
Ok I got one for you guys (said the comment no one will see). Steven Spielberg claimed there are zero stop motion shots in Jurassic Park. I believe in the scene where the kids & Alan are in the tree & he calls out to the brachiosaurs & they lift their necks above the tree line & look his direction. I believe those dinos in the distance are stop motion.
He could be playing splitting hairs. ILM's version of stop motion is called "go motion."
It's an update of stop motion that has motion blur.
@@goodlows_ghost yes yes we all know but it was done through a computer, the scene I'm referring to appears to be the traditional method.
would be cool if you guys looked at Rebel Moon 1 and 2. Think i saw jordan as a extra in the making of the films too?

0:40 WHEN HIDEO CREATED THE GAME METAL GEAR SOLID SONS OF LIBERTY HE WAS INSPIRED BY THE MOVIE ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK, AND AT THE MOMENT WHEN SNAKE FIRST MET RAIDEN HE TOLD HIM THAT HIS NAME WAS PLISKIN.
With Skyfall, there is a moment that you missed when Bond is looking back at the Komodo Dragon in the Macow casino fight. For one or two frames you can see that the tip of one of Craig's fingers dissapears for a brief second before he gets body slamed by the bodyguard. I thought I might as well let you all know since no one seems to be talking about it.
Just here for the BetterHelp comments.
Haha I was thinking the same thing. But where are they? It's funny how someone like Chris Stuckmann will get slaughtered in the comments everytime they sponsor him but other channels get a pass.

It's getting beyond a joke at this point. Theres is no way they are this unaware. Meaning they just dont care about peoples mental health either. But I mean, they live in Hollyweird so it makes sense theyd wouldnt care. It sucks us I love this channel
@@D0S81You realize they probably have a contract they must obey, don't you?
The Metal Gear reference tied to Snake Pliskin is perfect.
Better help is not a safe space! Seriously guys I love your videos but Better help a-holes !? Sharing the sensitive data about 1 million clients it collected on its users with advertisers, seemingly without their consent !?
Is this like a lost episode? I can't find the extended video on CorridorDigital. You guys also talk about Fred North but without acknowledging you've had him on the show the week before last.
The CGI artists left the gloved hand in so you can find out about the pain Craig caused them.
Sonic 3 deserves major kudos in one of these videos. The cloning effects of Jim Carrey and scenes of Sonic running through the city, as well as so many scenes are pure eye candy and perfection.
That was one of the first movies I watched and considered the filmmaking aspect of it. I never thought about how if you're going to be adding full CG characters, you have to pick an arbitrary focal point in the scene and somehow make a record of that for the visual effects team. Unless they used place markers that were covered up.
I love you guys. [35-55]Dentures: I'm getting a 3D modeled scan of my mouth. No joke.. hey no joke. Think they will let me save the file on a stick of some kind; or data I can retrieve? Chef!?
It's not CGI but could you please do a breakdown of the wormhole scene in 1979's Star Trek: The Motion Picture? Not the exterior effects, but the interior shots on the Enterprise bridge? I understand they took a week (or longer) to film.
Camera does a rather impressive one shot rotation around the minivan, zooming into the van, zooming out and rotating around the van whilst its driving.
I vaguely recall that they've already reacted to this in an early episode
I think they already looked at that movie. Not sure whether the van was included.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure they already did that shot. That said, there's plenty of other good VFX in WotW that they could look at.
Quote at 3:03 “ l do like how they’re showing it on those old-school tv’s though “. ?!?!?, they didn’t have a choice back then. They may have been using, at the time, green screen crt computer screens which would have allowed it to filmed in green.
Right? That's what tvs were then 😂
I thought he meant as opposed to just showing the city footage full screen as is, it's good that they played it back on tv screens and filmed those
@@flamingoliz Computer monitor CRT's circa 1980 were all using monochrome green phosphor. The XY vector monitors used in Asteroid arcades and available for filming custom wireframe graphics were likewise green phosphor.
It was just a second, but thank you for acknowledging the early CGI of _Looker_ in there.
You guys rock, have a good Christmas. Keep up the great work.
Was this filmed before the Fred North episode?
I hope it was, because otherwise it's super weird to name-drop him and not mention he was on their couch.
@@einootspork Pretty thematic with how they talk about how Zero Dark Thirty was released before Elysium despite being filmed after Elysium

Love that mini series.
Nice shirt, Wren 😎
You should talk about the new Netflix show, Senna! Formula 1 races, full CGI, practical shots AND the volume! All in one production!
So on the Bond thing, I can almost guarantee that scene was filmed on like 2 or 3 different days in different locations and not in order.
Also, reach out to props department prop master or assistant prop master. We're usually the ones in charge of that sort of thing and would have continuity photos

There's some good and some jank to be found in La Palma on Netflix. Gf is on bed rest and found this gem. I think it's Norwegian and worth the watch. Really absurd things galore with the plot but they do a plane crash, volcanic eruptions, landslide, tsunami wave among other things.
