My 67 years old father who doesn't know what manga is and an anime is cartoons, which is for children, told me there is a new pirate TV show is pretty good and I should watch it. That is a universal power of good adventure story.
Kinda the same story but with my mom she hates on anime and whenever see saw me and my dad watching she would say stuff like “No one wants to watch this cartoon” or “A kids show”. Convinced her to watch One Piece LA and although she said she doesn’t like shows with powers in general she is more of the realistic type of shows. But she still sat through all 8 episodes and even cried at two parts of it. Said if the 2nd season comes she will watch it.
As a mom, I have zero time for shenanigans, I hate “superhero” movies, cannot care less about manga or anime, and I binge watched the whole season of live action One Piece and now am a new fan of this world ❤️❤️❤️ It’s amazing and sweet and touching 🥹 More seasons ASAP, yes, please!!!!
My dad hates most animations in general, says they aren't grounded in reality, and would only watch live action films with good martial arts scenes. Guess what he thought of Zoro vs Mr 7?
@@hadinuman6699i mean, manga is always better but the anime sometimes makes it better on some scenes like the ussop vs luffy and even the merry funeral.
Anime has great Jp voice actors.., they covert the emotions, crazyness, coolness and / or cuteness (Chopper! :3) very well.. (sound SFX are really good too.., as some music)
Ironically, watching One Piece LA reminded me of watching Star Wars for the first time. All those strange characters and powers, weird races, settings and costumes -- with no explanation. And the camaraderie and chemistry between all the main characters. It was all so fresh and exciting with a sense of adventure. In fact the popularity of Mihawk is reminiscent of the popularity of Boba Fett.
I was gonna say the same thing about Boba Fett from the original trilogy and Darth Maul in the Phantom Menace. Characters who both originally had less then ten minutes on screen but were extremely popular
Ikr, I'm on the Impel Down arc now. I watched the anime from Loguetown after having watched the LA. I skipped all the non-canon episodes except G8 arc (which I was told to be just as good).
I also watch this anime from the netflix series and Im now starting the marineford arc😂😂. Overall my least favourite arc is the skypiea, to me its feels boring. Other arcs are🔥n my favourite episode is 312😢😢 n the nothing happened scene
I'm an anime fan, but for the longest time I stayed away from One Piece because it felt like too large of a commitment. After watching the live action show, I'm borderline obsessed with it, watching the anime, reading the manga, rewatching the live action. The show did such a great job of making people love this world and these characters.
I laughed when he said that cause Mihawk is one of those characters that instantly makes a chapter at least at 9/10 every time he appears in the Manga. The only two characters that bring more hype with less screen time is Dragon and Shanks. 😂
@@christophermichaelclarence6003 oh yeah, can't wait to see her reaction to it. She really loves the characters and story so far. We just got past the Foxy Pirates and are currently heading to find a shipwright
Funny thing is, that godawful Death Note live action movie made me want to check out the original anime to see why everyone was making a big fuss about it. It was 1000 times better!
Then somehow that horrible LA show did some good in return🤷🏻♂️ I did not even watch it, and people who already read the manga(I finished the manga, too)warned me DO NOT watch it😅
This is a great comparison. This is the form that entertainment needs to return to if it wants its fans back. It's not hard to write narratives that people can actually relate to.
As an Ahsoka/Star Wars/Rebels fan, I was about to say WHA???... but your assessment is totally fair! Especially for new viewers. I can totally see that because the characters in Ahsoka, with the exception of Baylan and Shin, are already established and would be a chore to learn more about them... hella seasons of Rebels and Clone Wars. But I need to try out One Piece! Thx for creating this content!
@@royalfun1031 I love Robin ❤️. I think she will too. But it's hard not to love the crew. I'm just happy to get her into it. My dad was easy because he took me to my anime convention when I was younger. He liked anime before my mom.
@@Lirin21 Hahaha, I wonder why so many older women love Chopper. Jamie Lee Curtis adores Chopper too. My fave as a child (I was 7 when I started reading the manga) was Luffy and as a teen Zoro (LMAOOO).
You got the point correctly. What makes One Piece great is the characters develpment. That also happening in the live action, is just collateral effect, because even throughout 1000+ manga episodes, the characters are still growing and being appeling to the reader.
I’ve talked shit about one piece for 20 plus years. I watched the Netflix version and it completely turned me around. I’m on episode 468 on the anime now. It’s so fye 😂
I'm one of the new fans, i always found the sheer number of episodes really intimidating. The live action definitely gave me a great headstart, and I'm grateful for it!!
I finally caught up reading the mange to the latest chapter (1095) yesterday, and I just started the manga right after I finished the OPLA in the middle of September. it was such a fun ride. I cried a LOT lot
The biggest difference in my opinion that draws people in for one piece and deters people from ahsoka is that you need no prior knowledge to watch one piece live action to fully understand and enjoy it while it also gives the viewers an intro to the anime and manga. Ahsoka is the opposite and very much a niche story line where as if you don't have the prior knowledge, a lot of the plot doesn't make sense. If star wars had spent a reasonable sum on a direct live action adaptation of rebels i feel like it would be a hit as long as they stick to the source material
Its because of respect to the base materials, of course things are going to be different, but due to oda having his say on how it would be made, definitely had an impact on how good the LA one pieces is
As a fan since 2013 (23 now), I'm glad for the new fans since they can experience this wonderful story for the first time. I'm glad they did the LA justice. Love OP to death!
My girlfriend started watching One Piece anime too after watching the live action. I had tried to persuade her watch one piece before but it never worked but now she's binging 20 episodes a day😂❤
While I feel it's not perfect by any means, the One Piece LA did a good job introducing new fans to the franchise and did some interesting things with the story. I highly recommend the manga as it provides more insight about characters outside of the strawhats and really showcases Oda's ability to show human emotions and feelings. OP has SO many side-characters, but it's guaranteed that there will be at least one that you will really emphasize or see yourself in. I was watching this yt channel where a grandma/grandson duo were watching the East Blue saga anime for the first time, and it was really special to see the grandma see herself in Bellemere. She turned to see her grandson and said she would do the same thing in all seriousness, which was very heartwarming.
You were correct. There was a lot of One Piece cosplay at the convention I went to. Some even came specifically as the Netflix incarnations. There were some Star Wars cosplay, but One Piece totally had more.
Its simple. One Piece has a great plot but is all about its characters! Ahsoka should of been the same way. It focuses to much on plot and should of put it's characters front and center. That's why people really like the new characters in Ahsoka, Balaan and Shin. They are complex and have goals they want to achieve.
I’m glad you enjoyed One Piece. Hope it gets you into reading the manga or watching anime. I agree with you that Disney needs to take a brake from Star Wars for a few years.
3:37 You brought up a really interesting point. Originally in the Clone Wars, Ahsoka was intentionally written to be flawed and unlikable, but as the show went on we saw her face challenges, overcome obstacles and become a better character. At first people hated her, but then by the end of the original run of the show on Cartoon Network (before the Disney buyout, the good old days), there were legitimate fears that Dave was going to kill her off. That's how much Ahsoka had become loved. Then in 2015, there was the absolute HYPE of seeing her reappear in the finale of Rebels S1. Then there was her big fights in S2 where she wiped the floor with the 2 Inquisitors which was really to whett our apetites for the finale where she fought Vader, which went INSANE, which was really the high water mark of Ahsoka as a character. This show feels like vandalism of her as a character and I haven't even seen it.
i’m glad you genuinely hit on what makes this show so good. so many people on youtube keep saying OP succeeded because it wasn’t “woke” when really, it was just good characters, world-building, and most importantly good writing! A lot of shows are missing that now and i’m glad you touched on that with genuine criticism. Great video
Genuinely can't tell why One Piece isn't "woke". There are diverse cast of characters, some are even race swapped from fair skin to dark skin (Lucky Rou, Nojiko, arguably Usopp Yasopp Banchina, and probably many more). Main character isn't even a white dude.
Ever since I watched the live action last year when it came out, after I finished the show, I went ahead and watched the entire anime. Currently in the Egghead Island arc already!😆❤️👒☠️🏴☠️
What makes OPLA work for me is the story itself.... the story is just.... a master piece 😘🤌 it brings so much inspiration, struggles, lessons, and comfort it brings to audiences.
This is definitely true! I watched the live action One Piece and am now watching the anime and will be picking up the manga. I've also bought One Piece themed Hobonichi items. I watched one episdoe of Ashoka and turned it off. Perhaps I was too hasty and need to give it another chance, but for right now it's a no.
Spot on video, I love Naruto and Star Wars. Seen and read and played the video games. Love rebels and clone wars and love Ahsoka show but it doesn’t make me wanna rewatch the series just excited for the next episode. One piece live action I’m tempted to watch just because of all the hype
I'm not watching Ahsoka, I don't have Disney+ and I'm a casual fan of Star Wars. I think you did a fair comparison, two shows that came out close together with their own huge following. That they fall into different categories of fantasy and genres doesn't matter if the show can captivate their audience.
Great video. Enjoyed your take on the two series. One advantage for One Piece, they were using a solid story and re-adapting it to live action and they supposedly kept faith to the source material. That helps a lot. My kids read and watch One Piece for years. I personally not familiar with the series, since I did not read, watch any of it yet. Ashoka, on the other hand, was an original story, so even though it ties to previous cartoon stories, it has to work harder to get people interested in the original cartoons. One Piece, after watching their show, you just want to see more of the story which the anime/manga continues the story. Ashoka, you are not continuing, you are going back stories instead. I have not watched Clone Wars or Rebels, but I am interested in watching them. Ashoka has its flaws for sure. It is not a solid story, but still overall entertaining. I am glad they did a good job on One Piece. So many anime to live action has failed over the years. I heard horrible reviews for the live action Cowboy Bebop for example. I did not see it yet myself. I loved the original anime. Although other anime to live action such as Battle Angel, was done well. That is one my favorite mangas. I also liked Ghost in the Shell live action. I am big fan of GitS movies/series/manga as well. Comes down to if they make a movie or tv show well or not. Just having great source material may not be used right, which could ruin the final product. Harry Potter was done very well in that regard. Great movies but never did read the books. So, I guess, they never got me interested beyond watching the movies. Note for example, Game of Thrones, when I watched the first season, I ended up buying all the books to read it and the continuing story. I seriously wanted to know more what is going to happen. I do the same with Anime, since in most cases Anime does not complete the story. Granted, I tend to read the manga before the anime, but there have been cases where I gotten the manga or novels due to the anime. Some anime are based on novels, that became anime and manga later due to popularity.
Very true. I think One Piece was easier to bring to the main screen because the original creator and a super fan with a great track record were behind it. If not it would’ve flopped hard. But making an original story is harder
Also not just that its also because Eiichiro Oda was heavily involved in the making of the live action and the show was made by fans of the manga/anime.
The people who find it hardest to enjoy the live action gotta be the actual anime/manga fans because in all honesty the manga does almost everything better due to the fact that it has way more room to develop these characters. So the fact that this show is still very beloved with how reductive it is in comparison to the manga proves to us that it's really good and the source material even better.
I used to be one of those hardcore Star Wars fans. Back in 1997-1998, when my parents introduced Star Wars to me, after watching Episode 4, 5 and 6, I REFUSED to believe that Episode 6 was the end. In fact, I made myself believe that the Nintendo 64 game Shadows of the Empire was Episode 7 when technically it is a story in between Episodes 5 and 6! I defended the Prequel Trilogy from Prequel Trilogy haters and collected as much of the Star Wars books and novels as I could from 1999 to 2013 because I was invested like how One Piece is getting me invested. Star Wars isn't making me feel invested anymore, and it all started because of how terrible Episodes 8 and 9 were, and the tv shows and games released after them just can't bring the magic back.
The prequel films had problems to be sure but the content they provided was amazing!! The comics, stories, and at least 80% of the games were awesome!!
I watched Clone Wars and Rebels, loved both, and I still just couldn’t care less about the Ahsoka series. I watched it hoping that it would tie things together and got rewarded with a big nothing burger. Failoni won’t fool me again.
I’m a lifelong Star Wars can and cancelled my Disney+ subscription, haven’t bothered renewing it yet to catch up on the Star Wars shows and not sure I’m going to. I like anime but was too intimidated to get into One Piece previously because there’s just so much of it. The live action was an accessible starting point and I loved it! Now I want more
You should definitely watch the anime, or if that IS too much for you then read the manga. Don't think of consuming one piece as a chore, think of it as an EXPERIENCE. While watching/reading imagine yourself as a straw-hat pirate THATS how you enjoy one piece.
The problem is that Ashoka turns people off from SW. Look at SW channels that dig as deep as possible into "Legends" lore to make an excuse to why shit happens. Baylen felt something in the unknown regions = Abaloth but in reality it probably was Palpatine explaining to Snoke that he has a grand-daughter or some shit.
Making a what if spin off series for star wars is the only hope expanding on Anakin winning the duel and taking out Palpatine sith style and going on to become Emperor. All of this has to be animation to maintain the likeness and to be different they gotta make it dark. No lightsabers that doesn’t even cut sort of garbage.
Yeah, I don’t buy the fact that Abeloth would be saving face when Baylen Skoff (I know it’s Baylan Skoll, but I don’t even care about that character as I find Taron Malicos is somewhat more effective than that guy) when we don’t even know what it is next. I mean, he doesn’t even know what Mortis is, or how on Peridea had the statues of The Father, the Daughter and the Son when it was disconnected.
The already did the Clone Wars with good plot & storylines.. I don't why they failed so badly in Ahsoka.. Turning Sabine into a Jedi is like another Rey in the making (as we already seen that).. They should have focused more on Ahsoka's story after EP6 coz this is her show!
i like OP 2023 more than the other remakes/adaptations. Disney or Hollywood can't compete this. Just like everyone else, people skeptical about this adaptation from the previous live action, however, netflix prove people wrong, myself included. it turned out pretty good. the showrunner and the team did a good job of keeping the source material as they are, and fans love this. since people are not a fan of anime and this series is the perfect show for them.
3:45 That’s because most Manga/Anime tells engaging stories and character developments that are more relevant and relatable to the fans… Disney just wants to skip everything and fast track characters to fame and fortune without having any genuine development… 😒🤦🏻♂️ They’ll never learn anything. That’s why they continue to fail
The OPLA made me watch the anime which is way funnier and more heartfelt, and also Hong Kong martial arts movies and TV series of the 90s for better fights. Zoro's sword fight just can't compare to Jet Li in Swordsman 2.
Japanese swordsmen don't really do a lot of acrobatic moves like how Zoro fights in the OPLA because they hang their sword cases on the side. On the other hand, Chinese martial arts characters usually hold their sword in 1 hand while walking. When they fight they just toss the case and pick it up when done.
I not watch much anime, maybe air bender, after watching the live action, I started watching the anime and already half way through water 7 like 260 episodes deep
Thats a good thing. ❤ its hard to commit to one piece anime long time. I manage to watch it slowly but when i watched live action, now i want to go back to watch the anime
The One Piece Live Action is certainly creating lots of new fans for the franchise, and in the case of Ahshoka, i dont think its the one scaring off the fans of star wars but the content saturation of the franchise by disney, i mean, they are not leting us rest. ¿Dont they remember what happened to Star Trek with the cancelation of Enterprise?, that franchise had 15 non stop years of series (5 series overall) and 5 movies, and Enterprise paid the price of the fatigue with low ratings.
I was a pretty hardcore Star Wars fan and still love Rebels. I think the Boba Fett show and Mandalorian season 3 were where I tapped out. Glad someone convinced me to watch Andor-cause it was good….but otherwise the passion is gone for me with Star Wars. Might have to watch One Peice Live Action. Never gave the anime a shot because it seemed like a huge commitment.
i agree 100% i droped comics long time ago and disney. im a dragon ball and naruto old. but i was on vacation visit my son in MA and he recomend me one pice live. now im reading and watching some anime apisode. one piece is a susscess beacause the fidelity to the manga a characters. respect for the fans. no hiden agendas
I don't know if someone said this before but I had a similar thought back when Peacemaker and Book of Boba Fett were coming out. As a Boba Fett fan I was excited for him to have his own series but it turned out to be complete ass and infuriating. Then you have Peacemaker, a character that not many people outside of hardcore comic fans knew about who had a role in critically acclaimed yet underrated movie, have his show that managed to surpass expectations and make you like him alot.
One piece considered one of the greatest stories ever written by many people, compared to Ashoka. I am not a star wars fan but man such an unfair comparison.
I never got into One Piece, until so many people whose opinions I trust started raving about how great the Live Action One Piece was. I binged it in one night, and now I have started watching the anime, and I am taking steps to collect and read the manga. It won me over. Ashoka, I won't even give a try, I am that pissed off by Disney Star Wars.
Welcome aboard! I've been lucky enough to read the manga since I was a child (kinda shouldn't, so many swear words on the anime too - they're pirtes, of course, LOL - my parents found out, but they couldn't really stop me watching the anime privately), and it's still so good 20+ years later (I'm 32). The story is just that amazing and the unique art style of Eiichiro Oda still makes me smile.
I've known of One Piece since I was a kid like I've known of DBZ.. it was another anime/cartoon I'd see on tv at random and change the channel, then avoid when learning now long it is, leaving it to be more than twice the length now. I've had friends try to get me to watch it and most recent, my boyfriend, for the last few years now. I've humored him by watching the show together.. I expected to like it cause I think it was out a good 3-4 weeks already so I had heard positive things. I thought it to be impossible to make as a live-action from what little I had seen of the anime so that intrigued me further. I did NOT expect to absolutely fall in love with it to where I am now watching the anime I've spent most my life refusing to watch lol I also rewatched the live action with a friend and by myself before I decided to take on the challenge of the anime lol.
Here's the thing Derek, the potential for agendas is coming with characters like Bon Clay & Ivankov. But they're so integral to the story, it would be a huge disservice to exclude them. They're beloved simply for their wholesomeness and if Netflix stays the course and listen to Oda, I think they'll prove that type of material can be beneficial when accompanied by good storytelling
I agree, the thing with Bon Clay and Ivankov is their sexuality is never the focus. Their identity is not wrapped around their gender either. For example, Bon Clay is loved because of his loyalty to the strawhats and Luffy, nobody really talks about their sexuality.
@@DarksideGmss0513 People didn’t mind Coby was played by a trans actor and they usually call it woke automatically when a trans actor gets cast. As long as they keep the word non binary out I don’t think people will mind.
Considering how many people enjoy the Rocky Horror Picture show I dont think people will have a problem with Bon Clay or Ivakov. Its going to depend on the messaging surrounding those characters more then its going to depend on their look.
as a big one piece fan, the only problems I had with the live action adaptation were nitpicks. There were lots of them sure, but they were all little things that overall didn't ruin one of my favorite stories. That so many new people are seeing this and going "Wait? Cartoony Piarete manga good?" fills my heart with joy. Especially love hearing how many newcomers find Mihawk to he the coolest most awesome character in the show, B/c that's tge impression he left on me AAAAALLLLLL the way back in the 4Kids dub days. The wait to see him again is almost unbearable, and I look forward to new fan rewctions as things go forward.
RIGHT?! Same, honestly. I have loads of little things I would have preferred were different but the fact that they're all _little things_ and that I find the show thoroughly enjoyable despite it is just... I honestly never thought we'd be here.
Expecting people today to care about Star Wars is like asking my children to enjoy Flash Gordon. It’s a ridiculous expectation. Each generation deserves new stories, not hackneyed retreads of ideas that already have been worn to dust.
I was watching one piece live action by myself and my dad joined me and asked if i was watching a cartoon i was like ehh kinda and then 5 mins later hes like hey this is pretty good 🤣
You nailed it. I actually went and watched Clone-war, which I never watch to begin with, because of a lot of Easter eggs dropped in Mandalorian, but I can never pass 10 episodes in clone war anime🤷🏻♂️, just not enough drive, and I didn’t watch Ahsoka is because of that, too. But now I’ll just watch Ahsoka without finishing the anime🤷🏻♂️
I think people would still like Balon Skoll; but because the character is played by Ray Stevenson they like the character even more. As for the Ahsoka show itself I think it would have been better as a new animated series instead of live action. And because the new Star Wars movie that they plan to make is linked to the events in Ahsoka I don't think its going to do that well when it comes out. Maybe I'm wrong; but I doubt it.
One Piece Fan so I am biased in which one I prefer, but personally I feel the Jedis are working with a handicap in that the point of their characters is they are trained to feel no real emotion in order to not be emotionally vulnerable to heartbreak and corruption. Characters like Obi-Wan and Yoda may get passes but the Jedi title limits character relatability despite great lightsaber choreography. If Mace awindu turned to the Dark Side you bet your @$$ you get Samuel MF Jackson. Even Sith who find peace and let their hate go retain range in charisma.
Because Ahsoka was lazy as piss. Filoni thinks he's worth way more than he is. We don't need story, we have The Clone Wars and Rebels already. We don't need characters, we have shapes that vaguely resemble characters you already know. We don't need logic, the viewers will do the work for us. One Piece put in the work and made no assumptions about the viewer. It took nothing for granted.
I’ve never watched the anime because I always thought the show was dark and the drawing was creepy (which I still find to be true sometimes anyways) but after the popularity of the life action I realize the show is actually pretty funny so I’m watching the anime now😅
they lost me with SW8.. haven't watched any series or film afterwards. I kinda feel indifferent towards most Disney properties. And when I don't feel like that I hate it, that they kill shows like Owl house. I have read the OP manga for 23 years now and I am so happy many more people can experience this world through the life action. It delights me every single time when I watch a blind reaction to this series. Great commentary :)
The issue with modern Hollywood/Disney movies is, story is more about other characters then the main character. Doctor Strange 3 is about more about Wanda and America, ant man 3 was more about wasp and Kang then Ant-man.
Its not a fair comparison in that anyone can start the one piece live action show without prior knowledge and then read the manga or watch the anime for more details, but with Ahsoka (rebels season 5) you need some prior knowledge, no one is going to watch Ahsoka and Then go watch Rebels. Other then that I can agree with the individual points about each series
So I don't know kid Ahsoka. But this is ADULT AHSOKA. She is like Luke in Mandalorian 3. Here for fan baiting. Her story, her arc, her growth is OVER. Nowhere to go. The interesting Ahsoka was the kid, whom had to learn all those things in the middle of the war. I would have settled for a kid Ahsoka making mistakes and earning the place in my heart. And it is the same with all those Clone Wars characters. And I did not have to see a single episode, but the trailer. If they want me in, they have to bring someone in whose story isn't finished, who has to learn and adapt to something new. And I also knew that they can't make Thrawn be a real general. Reason #0 is that we have never ever seen battle strategy on spaceships or in medieval, industrial or world war level conducted to highlight someone's genius like EVER.
The only problem I see on One Piece live action is it feels cramped like you are contained in a small room but you need to do this big something but other than that it's great
Nope, he will reappear after alabasta, the discuss of shichibukai, if s2 cover all alabasta saga than, he probably appear in the end of the s2, that will be a better post credit schene, where at the end shichibukai and marine have a meeting to discuss, they will make it better if kurohige appear instead of lafitte or maybe they will put that schene on the beginning of s3
I tried to give Ashoka a fair shot, especcialy after enjoying rebels and clone wars so much...but it was extremely boring. The dialogue was mostly bland and expository, the choreography was sub par, the characters were uninteresting and the plot itself was nonsensical at times. A shame because I bet if written better, Dawson could have done so much more with the character. Compared to One Peice where I have read half the manga, seen the entire anime to current...and yet the characters were still interesting, the story kept me engaged, and aside from a few outliers the choregraphy and effects were great.
I went into One Piece blind. I was a Star Wars fan for most of my life. The difference here in addition to just better writing is nobody involved in the production of One Piece came out and started attacking the fan base. Any actor, writer or studio that does that I stop supporting. Disney has spent years telling us all what horrible people we are calling us the buzzword of the day to cover up their own trash products so my wallet is closed to Disney for the rest of my life.
I tried watching Ahsoka and I found out that they all like to cross their arms, there are a few Mary Sue characters and the titular hero NEVER changes her facial expression.
My mom and stepdad def don’t watch anime, but they liked the live action one piece. Mom ready for season 2. She won’t be going back to watch the anime though, too tall an order for her 😂
My two cents about one piece, that even tho it DID change some major storyline it did not take out the essence of the characters. Luffy feels like luffy, nami is nami, sanji and usopp may not have their twirly brows or pinnokio nose they still look and act like the straw hats. I cannot even complain a shite about zoro 🤌 mackenyu is an otaku, he knows zoro, he grew up w/ zoro, he's protective of zoro and this whole adaptation is smooth af, you kinda dont miss what they skipped from the anime, and that's it ✨
Totally agree sabine should not be a jedi, when did it become a thing that all protagonists in Star wars have to be a jedi, like the force is the only kind of strength in the galaxy of any significant value. That's where they should taken a lesson from one piece.... not all the straw hats have a devil fruit, but they all have their own strengths and still contribute to the story in meaningful ways
So glad that One Piece is wiping the floor with the other series I WON'T name! One of the worst parts of the latter, besides the bad dialogue, awful characters, inconsistencies, especially with the whole lightsaber bit, Baylon, the title character herself, and so much more, was actually the episode with a certain, iconic character's return. Him referring to the title character by a certain "nickname" he used to call her, it was total cringe. It's basically Filoni trying to lure in gullible "fans" who're so easily pleased by anything DISNEY'S "Star Wars" sells them. It was NEVER Star Wars, just Disney's "Star Wars". One Piece IS One Piece.
Oda was involved with Onepiece Live Action and the Live Action follows the spirit of the Magna Disney has a restraining order on George Lucas and "de cannonized" most of Lucas' books and such beyond the first 6 episodes for their own bullshit....and even a marginally likeable character can't save "meh" storytelling Thats the difference
Idk if this is a fair comparison because Ahsoka is a part of a universe that’s Ben around for ages and already has numerous films, shows etc. Most of us have already had a chance to try those out and either love them or hate them (for me it’s hate lmao; could never finish a single Stat Wars film, they’re absolutely jarring). While One Piece is completely knew. People were going into it without any pre-existing opinion or prejudice. I think the main problem here is people are tired of the Star Wars shit.
I get what you're trying to say but I don't think it's a fair comparison. OPLA is adapting One Piece's very first story arc, whereas Ahsoka's story is obviously not from the beginning. If we assume Clone Wars is Ahsoka's first season and Rebels is its second season, then this 2023 Show is the 3rd season. Of course people aren't going to enjoy a show in its third season without watching the early seasons. One Piece live-action is like the first season of the story, so it's easier to gain fans from such a show. If Ahsoka's live-action had adapted Clone wars, perhaps new fans would've also join the SW fandom. Then that would've been a fair comparison.
It's much easier to adapt the beginning of a series that already exists as all you need to do is copy what the author did, than it is to write a brand new continuation of one with a ton of material from different people that you need to look through. Shame most people don't get that.
I love hearing people getting hooked for the first time to THE BEST SELLING MANGA IN HISTORY. It will surpass Superman in the top spot before the series ends. Mark my words.❤❤❤
I used to be a One Piece manga fan like a decade ago, I got upto 600+ chapters. But then I got too overwhelmed by it and life so I dropped it. I generally don't like long winded series. OPLA got me back into the fandom at least, it was a mostly faithful adaptation while trimming the fat to present a short and snappy season. The SW franchise has not done anything that's appealed to me in years. Last thing I watched and enjoyed was the Mandalorian. I have just reached a saturation point with it, each character in the SW universe does not need a separate TV show (maybe a movie but idc really), most characters are not that interesting anyway. Ahsoka should have been the exception but guess not.
I started with One Piece when it was on Shonen Jump ! Then the 4 kids Dub 😅 The Live action is so good ! Its a faster pace with less filler , which is the reason I lost interest.
My 67 years old father who doesn't know what manga is and an anime is cartoons, which is for children, told me there is a new pirate TV show is pretty good and I should watch it.
That is a universal power of good adventure story.
It's Japanese cartoons essentially. Most of the time it has a lot of Japanese culture engrained into it.

Ironically, watching One Piece LA reminded me of watching Star Wars for the first time. All those strange characters and powers, weird races, settings and costumes -- with no explanation. And the camaraderie and chemistry between all the main characters. It was all so fresh and exciting with a sense of adventure. In fact the popularity of Mihawk is reminiscent of the popularity of Boba Fett.
W for OPLA
Both are fiction. But one piece is built different
I could swear the music in the bar scene at Baratie is an homage to Star Wars
I was gonna say the same thing about Boba Fett from the original trilogy and Darth Maul in the Phantom Menace. Characters who both originally had less then ten minutes on screen but were extremely popular
With the small difference that Mihawk actually *did* things on screen to deserve his reputation beyond just looking cool
I didn't watch the anime or read the Manga, but after watching the Live action I'm now on episode 207 of the anime.
Oh damn i think you are in a treat soon. Water 7 ark is the best ark for many people. Enjoy

I'm an anime fan, but for the longest time I stayed away from One Piece because it felt like too large of a commitment. After watching the live action show, I'm borderline obsessed with it, watching the anime, reading the manga, rewatching the live action. The show did such a great job of making people love this world and these characters.
So happy hearing that I don't know why lol. Totally agree with you
Mihawk's 15 minutes screen time is better than the entire season of that Ahsoka series. 😂
Well said! That's what we call quality over quantity.
I laughed when he said that cause Mihawk is one of those characters that instantly makes a chapter at least at 9/10 every time he appears in the Manga. The only two characters that bring more hype with less screen time is Dragon and Shanks. 😂

Don’t worry bro Mihawk is still cold asf in the manga and we 1095 chapters in😭 bro got introduced in like chapter 20

I had tried to persuade her watch one piece before but it never worked but now she's binging 20 episodes a day😂❤
W you need to marry her
While I feel it's not perfect by any means, the One Piece LA did a good job introducing new fans to the franchise and did some interesting things with the story.
It doesn't have to be perfect. It just need to be good.
Tbh if it was perfect it wouldve came out like 5 years later
Though i do miss my apple onion and pepper
Very well said and very underrated channel. Glad you enjoyed One Piece!
i’m glad you genuinely hit on what makes this show so good. so many people on youtube keep saying OP succeeded because it wasn’t “woke” when really, it was just good characters, world-building, and most importantly good writing!

What makes OPLA work for me is the story itself.... the story is just.... a master piece 😘🤌 it brings so much inspiration, struggles, lessons, and comfort it brings to audiences.
Great piece - bang on. Writers in Hollywood appear to have taken a wrong turn with a focus on the superficial rather than character
That they fall into different categories of fantasy and genres doesn't matter if the show can captivate their audience.
one series was created to please the current fans and to attract new fans, while the other one is just trying to push narrative
and it can't even do that well!
W
💯 they have no idea how to tell even the simplest of stories
The Star Wars characters have had ALOT of development especially the characters in Ahsoka lmao

I did NOT expect to absolutely fall in love with it to where I am now watching the anime I've spent most my life refusing to watch lol
I also rewatched the live action with a friend and by myself before I decided to take on the challenge of the anime lol.

I kind of left Star Wars for good after Kenobi and I went back to doing one piece who I had been a fan of for over 20 years now.
Im impressed how many people enjoyed OP live action without knowing any of the story!
Part of me wonders if people usually get into the anime and manga due to the more linear story line.
I’ve never watched the anime because I always thought the show was dark and the drawing was creepy (which I still find to be true sometimes anyways) but after the popularity of the life action I realize the show is actually pretty funny so I’m watching the anime now😅
As a fan of both I loved both
they lost me with SW8.. haven't watched any series or film afterwards.
Great commentary :)
i agree . i became a one piece fan after teh netflix series. i even finish avat the llast airbender animated shoe because of the netflix one
I totally agree with you about one piece. But the ahoka series was made for the fans. I'd like to video, please make more contact.
The only problem I see on One Piece live action is it feels cramped like you are contained in a small room but you need to do this big something but other than that it's great
Mihawk will reappear literally 10 season later in anime that I worried he will get recasted in live action lol
You are right that's an issue I did not think before
Nope, he will reappear after alabasta, the discuss of shichibukai, if s2 cover all alabasta saga than, he probably appear in the end of the s2, that will be a better post credit schene, where at the end shichibukai and marine have a meeting to discuss, they will make it better if kurohige appear instead of lafitte or maybe they will put that schene on the beginning of s3
Ye the characters stand on their own
comparing Asoka to One piece, is like comparing an ant to an elephant
Y not just name it
@@royalfun1031 Make me. lol
You make a great point. I watched the show and wanted to buy a straw hat.
Oda was involved with Onepiece Live Action and the Live Action follows the spirit of the Magna
Disney has a restraining order on George Lucas and "de cannonized" most of Lucas' books and such beyond the first 6 episodes for their own bullshit....and even a marginally likeable character can't save "meh" storytelling
Thats the difference
Oda is bigger than Shuiesa, Toei, Netflix while Lucas isn't bigger than Disney
As a star wars fan Ahsoka is working for me
lol
Idk but OPLA is such a vibe
Idk if this is a fair comparison because Ahsoka is a part of a universe that’s Ben around for ages and already has numerous films, shows etc. Most of us have already had a chance to try those out and either love them or hate them (for me it’s hate lmao; could never finish a single Stat Wars film, they’re absolutely jarring). While One Piece is completely knew. People were going into it without any pre-existing opinion or prejudice. I think the main problem here is people are tired of the Star Wars shit.
*been
*completely new
One piece has been around for 25 years now. And it was liked by people who were long time fans and people who were going in blind.
Awesome video dude
You should look into your mic input. I think it's hitting the max and it doesn't sound good. Best of luck
Op live action is good. But i prefer 100% based on manga. Not add some or delete some. Dunno
Mark my words.❤❤❤
one is woke
the other one is not
Yeah one piece is Woke AF
Ahsoka should have been the exception but guess not.
theres no orange and green tentacled women in the Japanese adaptation. surprisingly
Tf
It ain't hentai
I started with One Piece when it was on Shonen Jump ! Then the 4 kids Dub 😅
The Live action is so good ! Its a faster pace with less filler , which is the reason I lost interest.
