To thai is Neutral 3 4 1 2
The only thing is the Chinese 3rd tone goes down and up, and I feel like in Thai, it doesn’t kick back up at the end.

Tip for remembering what tone to use with 一
My trick was to think of this character as a "bully", always picking on the other tones because for me the 4th tone sounds a bit more aggressive. So, just like bullies in general, 一 is aggressive until it runs into someone who fights back, a character with its own 4th (aggressive) tone. Then it starts questioning itself (2nd tone, a rising tone).
And a bonus twist, while alone at home, in the dictionary, 一 stays calm and has the 1st tone.

What do you do when you have several third tones?
e.g. 我想讲你...。wo3 xiang3 jiang3 ni3 ...
3333 -> 2323 or 3333 -> 2223?

@@lukulusd7 If like what you said “wo ke yi qing ni tiao” (我可以請你挑 I guess). The tone of this sentence should be 333331 -> 3 23 23 1 and the tone of the final word doesn’t matter though

I've recently come across a sentence that had five characters in a row with the 3rd tone. Is there a rule for when we have more than two characters with the third tone?

I just started learning Chinese and have a few questions regarding tonal languages:
1.I like to sing and when I learn English singing has been the best way to acquire pronunciation. However, since Chinese is a tonal language I imagine that when you sing a Chinese song those 4tones might be lost. Do they actually understand the meaning of the song by just listening to it?
2.For the same reason as 1, 4 tones might be lost when you whisper words in Chinese without using your vocal cord. Can people ever whisper in Chinese and communicate with each other?
Not that I expect an answer here but they just came to my mind while watching this.
It's a good question! When you sing in a tonal language, at least with Chinese, we usually don't place as much importance on tones. It can make it hard to understand a song without subtitles but we actually subtitle a lot of things. Most tones are subdued or end up flat so you just need to have a good understanding of vocabulary and context.

it all sounds the same to me. when speaking any language with words all have tones depending on what you are stressing . so if you say stop the tone is different depending on the gravity of what you want to say
In karbi if we add prefix in common noun then it will chang the tone eg,for man 'mònit' when it is with prefix we say'àmonìt'.

I would love a video explaning how to make a half third tone using ipa, because when you guys make it, it sounds so cute but no matter how hard I try I can't make it the same way.
I imagine it's just like the cantonese low falling tone, like ˨˩, but with a longer ˩ like ˨˩˩ (the characters don't want to combine here)

Normally, when you're fluent in a language, you already have the whole phrase in your head before you start speaking, so you know how it'll be and your muscular memory do the job.
In my mind I think of the two characters together as a single compound word, so the pronunciation of that compound word never varies.

What if there are four third tones in a row? For example, er(4) lou(2)you(3) nu(3) xi(3) shou(3)jian(1). I read somewhere that each except the last is pronounced as second tone. Is that right?

Yes the word is still written as "不", we just change the tone when pronouncing it. :)

What about when yi is followed by a neutral tone? E.g. yi ge ren2?
Then it remains unchanged, yi1 ge ren2.
I always tried to pronounce nî hâo with 3rd tone on both and it was so hard, now I know why, haha

Hi Grace! I have a question about _tone marks_ . I don't know on which finals (or letters) I should note the tone mark. For example: 想 *xiang3* if I'll see it in this form, I won't able to note the mark correctly. I mean: xĭang or xiăng?? I don't know 😯 Please help me with this problem)
The tone should be marked on the one that is pronounced with the mouth more wide-open, so the sequence is "a, o, e, i , u, ü", in descending order. For example, 国家 guójiā, 好吃 hǎochī, 手表 shǒubiǎo.
