I LOVE silent and pre-code depictions of gay people, even though many of them were at the expense of the character. They were almost always seen as comic relief.

Pre-code movies were quite risque and awesome. Too bad that tight-ass fool, Will Hays and his posse was allowed to ruin it all. Those hypocrites would put pants on Michaelangelo's David.

I don’t get it, why are there so many homophobes in the comments? Purposefully searching for this type of video literally makes them gay. And if it was in thier recommended... oof

Being a closet gay is one of the biggest hobby activities in USA. Millions of religious people are, GOP is full of them and now the militants like Proud Boys are, that’s a pretty obvious code name for a closet gay club, and when you know only “boys” are allowed nothing more needs to be said.

it doesnt though? it just means theyre so hateful they want to actively seek out people to harm. fucking sick of this 'all homophobes are secretly gay' because it puts the blame on gay people instead of you know, people that hate us

The Proud Boys have said themselves, multiple times, that they're not racist or homophobic. Many of their members are gay. They hate women, but no one seems to take issue with that sadly.

Well, I was actually searching for old Hollywood movies, particularly from the 20s to 40s, because I like that era and this came up in the recommendations. I have no issue with gays, per se. All people have a right to dignity, respect and to exist. But marriage should be between a man and woman, and children need mums and dads. What gays do in their own bars, clubs, films and spaces, however, is their business. Something I've observed about gay people is that you want your safe spaces, which is fair enough, but you refuse to let heterosexual people have our spaces.

Why the hell was he working in film one of the most LGBT dominated industries ever, if not the number 1? Isn't it considered unprofessional to use religion to make decisions in the workplace?

Taylor and Nimbus: You are looking at that period with your 2016 eyes and sensibility. In 1933, there was greater religiosity in the U. S. than even today. Congregations were much more willing to do what their church leaders commanded them to do. Also, in 1933, homosexuality was illegal and, even today, there are actors who are afraid to come out because they think the public, especially women, won't buy them as romantic leads. Also, remember that there was tremendous anti-Semitism in the United States back then. The Catholic Church in the U. S. was anti-Semitic and would not have hesitated to act that way with the movie industry, which would've damaged it irreparably. The movie studio heads were worried more about that than the actual threatened boycott of films religious leaders had staged in some cities and were calling for in other cities. The same movie studio heads also buckled under and furthered the Blacklist later on, instead of defending their workers.

You're right though. I am using my 2016 eyes. The u.s was more conservative back then.

LATER IN THE 1950's THE TERM SWAG WAS USED IN HOLLYWOOD.
(Secretly we are gay) the people who use the term "dress swag" are using the term wrong, it's dressing swagger

In the documentary they should have mentioned Sunny Skies from 1930 film in which they show an openly homosexual sub-plot, which shows how the character Benny Krantz is a shy, effeminate man who shows no interest in women, and also, there are scenes showing how he is completely in love with his roommate, who is a soccer player.

Push far enough and its what we got all those dirty horror porn movies. Sure there is a balance and it was crossed long time ago. And yes people became less moral because of someone wanting to shock people to make money.

Lost any credibility when Hugh Hefner appears. Man made a living off of objectifying and degrading women.
