If CK2 taught me anything, you become a successful ruler by giving any land to close family members so you have a non-aggression pact with your vassals and they also love you. What happens when your son succeeds, all his vassals have a strong claim to the throne and they all press it at the same time? Not your problem, you're dead.

Alexander Nevsky, after defeating crusaders twice famously said- "Those who come to our land with sword in hand, will die from the sword". But he was smart enough not to challenge Mongols in their prime and submitted to them, thereby saving Russian principalities internal autonomy and protected orthodox faith, bc Pope sanctioned German knights forcefully baptize Rus peoples into Catholicism. What I'm saying that politics is complicated thing, and sometimes you need to make sacrifices in order to survive and overcome.

@@nooanykanen5864 Believing that this universe is "Godless/Creatorless" or came out of non-existence by no cause or reason whatsoever is the most idiotic, unscientific, biggest fairy tale & fictional belief anyone can hold. The Higher Power is self-evident & believing in Him(the God Almighty) is by default, predisposed in human beings, that's what Islam argues & it's called "Fitrah" in Islamic terminology, and God Almighty has sent prophets only to revive that pre-disposed truth and show them the Straight Path back to their Creator, *rejectors* of truth are bound to end-up in Hell-fire for their crimes, arrogance & ignorance of the truth such as Athiests, Polythiests, etc. Proof as follows,
"London: Human beings have natural tendencies to believe in God and life after death, according to a three-year international research project directed by two academics at the *University of Oxford.*
The *1.9 million pounds* project involved 57 researchers who conducted over 40 separate studies in 20 countries representing a diverse range of cultures.
The studies (both analytical and empirical) conclude that *humans are predisposed* to believe in *God and an afterlife,* and that both theology and atheism are reasoned responses to what is a basic impulse of the human mind, a university release said."
      Source: www.google.com/amp/s/www.ndtv.com/world-news/it-is-natural-to-believe-in-god-says-oxford-study-455645%3famp=1&akamai-rum=off
The Morality is as objective as the truth and true morality can only comes from All-Knowing, All-Wise, All-Encompassing God Almighty- the Creator & Sustainer of the Universe including humanity. Taking other than the Straight path shown by Him, is just deviancy & going astray. A Quranic argument below:
"Ask ˹them, O Prophet˺, “Can any of your associate-gods guide to the truth?” Say, “˹Only˺ Allah guides to the truth.” Who then is more worthy to be followed: the One Who guides to the truth or those who cannot find the way unless guided? What is the matter with you? How do you judge?
Most of them follow nothing but ˹inherited˺ assumptions. ˹And˺ surely assumptions can in no way replace the truth. Allah is indeed All-Knowing of what they do."﴾Qur'an 10:35-36﴿
Here "Associate-gods" also includes the God of athiest, liberals, seculars, etc. which is worshiping their "Nafs"(i.e., Desires, ego, self, whims, etc.)

I love these big picture videos! There's not enough attention given to the systems and dynamics of history compared to the histories of dynasts and wars. A video on the Medieval Islamic economy, or how an itinerant scholar could make a living traveling across the world, or maybe how taxes and raising armies worked would be splendid.

Ottoman sultans used devshirmes (especially janissaries) against timariots and timariots against devshirmes. Timariots were the closest thing to a Turkish noble class, and devshirmes were the central army of the empire. Mehmed II favoured devshirmes to increase his own authority and persecuted powerful statesmen of Turkish origin, such as the Çandarlı family, who raised many viziers, including his own grandvizier, Çandarlı Halil Paşa. Ottoman Golden Age mostly had balance between timariots and devshirmes, but after it, timar system collapsed, while janissaries grew too big and started to ally with the clergy. One of the main reasons Ottomans declined.
