- Coach Smith (G.D Spradlin) teaches Henry Steele (Robby Benson) a tough lesson. Univ. of Colo. football Hall-of-Famer Bobby Anderson plays 'The Hitman' King in this scene from the movie 'One On One'
DVD info from obpett@msn.com
The goon "Hitman" is Bobby Anderson. Bobby played football for the University of Colorado and set a rushing record at the '69 Liberty Bowl. Bobby was drafted by the Denver Broncos in '70 and played for them 4 years or so. He was a long time announcer for CU games after retiring from the NFL. His brother Dick Anderson played for the Miami Dolphins as a defensive back and intercepted 34 passes from '68 to '77. Dick was a member of the Dolphins undefeated '72 team.
+Joe Nicholl Excellent info. Thx!
I still have both of their football cards.
@@bhmch39 Wow! I forgot about this one! Five years later and it just showed up in my Notifications...-goes too show, anything you say or do on the internet...stays on the internet! :-)
@@joenicholl5109 no worries.
I always loved this movie.
I recall getting a horribly feeling for him as soon as I saw the other player thinking "this aint gonna and well"
There's a guy that was a coach at my school that is built just like this goon and he cracked a 140 guy for no reason at a bar one night. Biggest jackoff ever
I remember going to the theater to watch this movie. As a former Texas basketball player. I loved this classic film well done.
It's a great movie that brings back a lot of memories from the mid to late 70's. It's just as inspirational today as it was back then. Kudos to Robby Benson for a timeless classic.
This came out in 1977. Robbie Benson was in some pretty good movies back then, can't believe he is 62 years old now. Then again I am 54, where have the years gone?
Daniel H, I agree 100% with ur perspective. I’m encouraged 2 c a male with this perspective. 👍❤️
TheJer1963, same here. We get older as well even though we don’t realize it sometimes. Lol
Well, it's no _City Limits_ but it's alright I guess ;) All kidding aside, Spradlin is amazing in this. If he was alive today in his prime I could totally see him playing Bobby Knight or Nick Saban, he had that kind of intensity.
@@TheJer1963 agreed, and I think the 70s produced better everything, including movies and music. I too saw this movie at the theater. Remember how pumped people used to be to go to see a "feel good" movie like this, and come out completely satisfied with the happy ending instead of all this negative violent crap that's made today? Those positive themes made people happy...now? forget it - they have us worried sick about money, health, the future and everything else.
all time classic movie. Robby Benson's character wins out in the end. The coach, G.D. Spradlin, just passed away today at age 90. A great character actor who also appeared as a coach in N. Dallas Forty, another classic.
All the way up with a red hot poker!
He wasn't even listed in Honorarium by the Academy Awards when he passed.
I always liked GD Spradlin in those _Dragnet_ episodes. And of course playing the sleazy senator in _The Godfather 2_
He was in the godfather 2 he tried to cross the Corleone's
"All the way up with a red hot poker, I can play anywhere I want."
Up all in his face , When he told him that in his office..
@@juliagomez5857 I just re-watched this a week ago. Remembered almost all my favorite quotes, including "well I'm going to show you what's inside of me you harry turkey bastard" 😂
I've always liked seeing Annette O'Toole and Bobby Benson in film and TV. Kudos to the actor that played the head coach in this movie. His character was very believable.
This movie needs to be on DVD!!! I love this movie!
It's on Amazon prime to rent for $3
Very good and underrated sports movie. G.D. Spradlin plays a GREAT prick head coach, especially in this scene. Robby Benson also did a terrific job in this movie. I always wondered who the 'Hitman' was. Thanks for posting this scene and explaining. Bobby Anderson did a great job acting, especially since he had NO LINES. He had to intimidate with his eyes and grin! I knew he had to be a football player, he just had too much muscle for basketball.
That's how Julius Peppers looked when he played at UNC. You could tell he wasn't a " full time" basketball player.
He was an All American at Colorado and is in the College Football Hall of Fame. Ran for 254 yards against Alabama in 1969 Liberty Bowl
i remember this movie waaaay back in the day! i was in 7th grade when i saw this in school! great movie!!!!!
I loved this movie as a kid and sports nut in the 70s ... recall it right in the heart of other classics JAWS, Rocky, King Kong (a smoking hot Jessica Lange made an impression), The Towering Inferno, Star Wars? --- but anyway, this and North Dallas Forty are a couple of the best, less often cited Sports classics
this is one of the best movies ever. should be required viewing for all kids who play
I just got done watching "One on one" with my kids and they loved it as much as I have since the seventies. "All the way up with a red hot pocker!"
Poker!
Saw this on TCM. Glad I stayed to watch the rest, it's a good movie. 🎞
0:20 That's a suicide mission. That assistant coach was a damn assassin. The elbow was brutal, but when he throws that ball in and closes the range in 1 second..wow.
One of my favorite movies
I remember this movie pissing me off back in the day
G.D Spradlin always played a great evil older guy.
What a great movie this was. There is a lot of truth to things like this. Coaches could do whatever they wanted in the 70's and 80's. Robby Benson played a great part in Henry Steel. My middle name is Steel, too funny. Back in those days the coaches called all the shots. Just like the coach did in All the Right Moves. This is why travel ball was created and we have taken travel ball to another level where the high school coach isnt even called to asked about a player. So what was completely left and made a full swing to the right. They both are wrong but this is where we are at in 2024.
One of the few actors who could actually play basketball decently without camera tricks. Not to Michael Warren's level of course (Hill Street Blues) or Kareem (Airplane) but one of the few you wouldn't mind having on your team for a real game.
Robby Benson is so cool. What a fast runner after being punched.
i wish the whole movie was on youtube :(
i remember watching this movie years ago.
Love that movie, I wonder if Amazon has it.
@@juliagomez5857 yes, well worth the $3!
If I’m “Steel’s” dad and I hear about this, I put that coach in the hospital.
Yeah, sure thing tough guy
@@donarthiazi2443 or the morgue.
@@donarthiazi2443 see, because human life, outside of my "inner circle, I could care less about. Clear, asswipe?
you won't break me
In the promo for the movie " Blue Chips" starring Nick Nolte and Shaq, G.D. Spradlin (COACH SMITH) reprises his role as Western University Athletic Director warning Nolte not to have another losing season. But the scene never appeared in the movie ! Too bad !
What happened in this movie happened to me but I was on a D2 football team and I ended up quitting
I know it had everything to do with Benson’s performance but every moment until the last game completely broke my heart for this kid.
Love conquers all by seals and croft.
WITH A RED HOT POKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@mgh0815 He was also the senator in godfather 2!
Reminds me of the Basketball Games we played in Jail.
The coach couldn't have picked a bigger musclehead jerk lol. I was probably 10 yrs old first time I saw this and I found that guy pretty terrifying. Awesome movie. They simply can't make them like this anymore. There's no talent out there. Today it would star Mark Wahlberg and blow chunks.
MarkWahlberg pitching cheeseburger and standing in front of green screen as his agent cries to director, please don't hurt him next movie all ready lined up
Great movie. Problems with paying athletes in today's world is brought forth in this movie. It was problem in 1977 just as it is a problem in 2018. Some things never change.
I Remember watching this Movie in the 7th grade way back in the 70's or 80's too long ago! Hahahaha! the memory is kicking in!!! my first sex movie as a Virgin! LOL
likewise although for me it was 5th grade
That happened to me every practice. I thought it was normal.
this is the best all time hoops movie ever, Robbie Benson is a genius...yeh that bully was a badass
Lol, that bully's grin at 1:43. "Yeah, that's right bitch. I own you."
we're supposed to believe a 5'9" Jewish guy is a basketball star. I'm still laughing
I agree, and I'm Jewish.
Just like we were supposed to believe micheal j. Fox would turn into a wolf and suddenly become a great basketball player......
@@stevenclarke8773 " WOLF, WOLF, WOLF, WOLF"....The even funnier thing is people watched him turn into a wolf, played the game as a wolf and nobody ran out of the gym.AMAZING!!
I remember this movie but didn't remember the goon actually knowing how to dribble, I thought he was hired muscle from the football team but he probably played for Iowa in real life
@1:14, Gail Goodrich owning Robbie.
If this happened today Henry would just enter the transfer portal.
He does .. by the end of the film
The real Knockout King!💕
80s hand check. Nice!!!
I own the DVD 📀
Wow, all those comments on a Robbie Benson vid, and no Beast references. I'm surprised.
From what I understand Bobby the goon was really a nice guy!!!
I LIKE RB BECAUSE OF THIS FLICK.
Along with Roy Hobbs and Phil Elliot some of the best scenes in sports movies! Don't they all remind you of Tom Landry?
Bobby Anderson? The running back? Looks more like Joe Klecko, the defensive lineman.
Don't know about the CD, but your local used record shop might have it on vinyl. That's how I got mine a couple years ago.
Remember seeing this in the theater when it came out.I remember that scene where Robbie takes home that woman from the party and she goes down on him in the car....
A GREAT FILM
That referee looks familiar. Didn't he officiate game 6 of the 2002 NBA Western Conference Finals?
Lol!
All the way with a red hot poker is what I'd say.
I love this. That guy was just a pure meathead.
where can i get a link of free download of this movie? pls..
This scene affirmed bill brasky
@i0973 He's trying to keep his scholarship money. He refused to resign it, so the coach got hard on him.
@alizarin1 I know you've been told it is. My 6 year old son loves it!
They have it on iTunes

Simmons!
Does anyone know where to get the CD Soundtrack?
GO DOLPHINS !!! SUPER BOWL 2010
whats this movie called?
HaHa looks like that could be another Joe Klecko out there
Easy solution to get the bigger fouling aggressive player off the team even if he is an instrument of the coach's evil schemes, wear a ski mask concealing your face, wait till he's coming out of the gym at night, eaze up behind him with a louisville slugger aiming low, and break both of his goddamn legs and never say a word, then have a buddy in a fast car with the tag covered ready to get you out of there in seconds.Guarantee no one would foul you on the team again, they'd know what's up
Sportsguy simmons!
Simmons.
Who else?
Don't know which movie I despise Spradlin in - This 1 or Godfather 2.
I hate ALL his characters....because he plays them so well.
