I would like to point out a (in hindsight obvious) mistake I made recently when I tried to shoot a timelapse: I set up my composition for a 3:2 photo and not for the 16:9 video crop, so when I went to turn the images into video I had to crop them and it didn't turn out like I imagined it. Passing that on might save another beginner a bit of time and effort :)
Thank you, helpful. Seems like you could set the interval shorter in the beginning and save a later step. also, the percent speed doesn't matter, as it will play no matter what. It's more a preference as to how fast or slow you want to see your video. Another tip I discovered was that when you change the percent speed, it tells you the length in seconds of the clip in the bar in the middle of the iMovie screen. Thanks again.
thanks, this was helpful to compile cad rendered images into video loops.. after upgrading to a m1 chip.. ol' mac apps dont work anymore for very purpose.. tried imovie but quickly realized its limitations.. hat tips on the quicktime trick.. it'll serve for now, wish there was an option for custom frame rates too, saves frame count math..
Thanks for this content. Do you have a suggestion for making a quick Timelapse on an iPhone? I do use the built in camera TL feature…but have some photos I want to make into a TL on the phone. Thanks.
Thank´s for a great video . Do yuo know how to change the duration of a time laps video when I have a few photos in the beginning of the movie that I woulld like to be separated from the time laps video ? I need these photos to be 4 sec long and to be continued with the time laps photo of 0,1 sek/pic?
I was looking for a solution beside premiere Pro and in second part of video you gave it ti me, Quicktime player... I had no idea about this great option of QT. Thanks bro, you made my day! (subscribed)
This got me thinking what’s the point of iMovie if at the end you dragged original photos from file to quick time player?? Another question can you add music? Thanks
Thank you so much for your "Spot -on" time-lapse video💥I'm new to drone pics and iMovie so all the steps in your video are going to be very helpful. Mike
great vid! do you know why after 'rendering' all my photos into a vid it then won't allow the .mov that was just created back into iMovie? basically I'm stuck before reimporting the video to speed up because iMovie doesn't like the video just created! thanks!
I've just tried both methods....iMovie and Quicktime, and both work a treat, thank you. I have one question. In the QuickTime method, if I select halfspeed as the Playback speed, how can I make sure that this is embedded in the playback. At the moment, I select the Halfspeed option and then save and re-export etc, but when I play the saved file, it still runs at the original speed. What am I doing wrong? Many thanks in advance.
great video ... firstly thanks a lot of sharing the info on free software. I tried downloading QuickTIme for windows ,,, but its doesn't have the image sequence options. could you suggest some other software for us beginners ,,, many thanks & regards.
one key aspect of the tutorial that is missing is how do you edit the time in each frame to 0.1? I am trying to create a file with 120 pictures but each of them was inverted automatically with 4.2 seconds and reducing to 0.1 is painful given that I have to manually adjust each file 4-5 times (iMovie does not allow to go straight from 4.2 to 0.1)
Thank you for the content Matthew, much apopreciated. I'm currently following your guidance and waiting for the process of importing my 850 images of the Milky Way. I do have a query for a 2nd timelapse video I shall be undertaking later. I have a second file group of some 1550 images, again of the Milky Way. However, the images are in protrait mode and that, I understand, presents some timelapse video creation issues. Have you come across this problem before and, if so, how did you overcome potential issues?
Hi Bob, glad the video is helpful. You could use Lightroom or Adobe Bridge to change the orientation of all the images at once, or you can render out the video in its existing orientation and then adjust the orientation of the video with imovie or another app later on. Few things are as exhilarating as capturing our night sky!
Matthew how do you reduce the size of a movie file my movie is nearly 3minutes long and is too large to send in an email (parents don't have other apps) thanks in advance Oh I edited it in iMovie and also tried Affinity. File size is over 145MB.
Hi Mathew, I love all your videos I have learned so much. I am an artist and I do oil painting. I’m trying to invest in some mirrorless cameras to do a time lapse of my artwork and I feel like nobody talk about shutter count. If I do a time lapse everyday for 10 hours will a mirrorless camera like the canon m6 mark iii will reach the life cycle pretty fast?
I honestly wouldn't worry about that. Especially with canons they tend to go way over the rated shutter count. When shooting timelapse you aren't banging around your camera in a field, it's static and safe so less hard on the camera. Hope that makes sense.
Matthew Vandeputte Thank you for your quick response. I contacted Canon, they told me the mechanism will fail if I take 3-4 thousands pictures every single day. I’ll keep using my iPhone for now then.
@@JJ-px5wy my Nikon d750 shutter blew out while timelapsing. I switched to a Sony A7iii and have had no problems since. The shutter can't blow out since there's no mirror. You just need to take care of the sensor!

My bad. You can always play it back at half speed 😂 in all seriousness though, all of my tutorials are also available to read and follow at your own pace on my blog.
Personally, I like that he goes fast. So many TH-cam creators go agonizingly slow just to milk the playback time. Anybody complaining about it going too fast needs to hit pause, and simply rewind.
Slow down, for those who watch a such basic tutorial is the one don't know how to do it and they won't be able to follow this kind of speed. for those who can don't need to watch your stuff. pretty useless for the targeted audience if you asked me.

Depends, on Mac you have normal QuickTime that does it but maybe on pc you need the paid pro version, not sure

There sequently in order from first photo taken, but it doesn't play in order 🤔 any idea?
