In this video I will show you a little more theory about the dramatic Black and White technic and sow you how I use my presets on many examples. I wish I would have seen that video when I started 15 years ago.

I love your presets and use them 80% of the time, been using them for years now! Thank you so much Serge this was as alway, so helpful!!
Mr. Adams was a master of photography his prints should be seen in person.the prints have a sence of movement.
I've been using your presets on my B&W for about 6 months the made my photos go from ok to fantastic cannot thank you enough
Brilliant as always.
My always favorite of your B and W presets is the “gritty”. Thanks
Oh nice! Thank you :-)
Thank you for the resets!! Thanks for your teaching! I've used your Antelope Slot Canyons presets on a trip I took there earlier this year!! Very much appreciated!
Nice!! Thanks a lot for the nice feedback! I really appreciate it! :-)
Brilliant Serge, thanks. Can't wait to try them out. Love your content and your city. Vive La France.
Haha thank you! :-)
Thanks Serge. Your educational videos, along with your outstanding photography have helped me explore and expand my creative side. Pushing a button is one thing, creating a “Photograph” is another. You’re the best on TH-cam and I’m glad I subscribed.
Oh thank you so much I really appreciate it! :-)
Merci Monsieur. What I especially appreciate are the explanation of what your presets are doing and how to personalise them for each photo. Of course as you have the eye of an artist to help in making those decisions is something that I am envious of! Beautiful and clear explanation and great presets.
Thank you so much! I appreciate it :-)
Wonderful presets. Thank you Serge.
Great stuff Serge! You are the best. Thank you!!
Thank you so much! Very appreciated :-)
Serge this is one of my favourite have watched in several times 👍👍👍
Oh nice! So happy to hear :-)
Great work Serge.
Thank you so much!
Thank you Serge, this is very imformative. I enjoy your bouncy style. Very generous of you to offer the presets. I don't really understand exactly what makes Ansel Adams' photos so special...even though I can see that they are. I don't know enough about the technical aspects of his day & how they apply to his art.
Sure, it depends on your taste but he is one of the first doing dodge and burn :-)
Thank you very much for your presets, I very much enjoy your channel
Awesome and thanks:-)
Another great video! I'm learning a lot and enjoying the presets! I was able to Make some photos from Lassen National Park in California really stand out!
That’s nice!! You are very welcome! :-)
Great tutorial and many thanks for the presets
You are so welcome!
Serge, thank you for posting these presets. I had major problems with my computer and lost the presets. It will be very nice to use them again and I can now compare to mine that I made up.
Nice! But if you bought the presets with me you can download them again from your library :-)
You should also consider that Ansel Adams used the red filter to get darker skies. Before you do the "burn" of different zones, you should change the raw profile to Monochrome Red Filter to emulate the use of the red filter. Most times, you don't need to do anything else.
That’s a great tip! Thanks ;-)
You are amazing! Even though I never work wit that kind of presetes. Very interesting!
Thank you so much! Really appreciate the support :-)
Thank you man! This is really nice!
Awesome! Happy you liked it!
Another fantastic video Serge. I can't wait to try this. You have a beautiful daughter !
Thank you! Yes she is amazing :-)
Hi Serge. I just tried one of your Ansel Adams presets. Wow! These are amazing.
Oh awesome! Happy you like them!!
@@SergeRamelliPhotography I just wanted to add that not only are your luts fantastic (I bought the others, too) but they are teaching me how to set up zones of light and dark. Thanks!
Great video and very generous of you. When I get m new computer, I’ll download the presets. Thank you.
Awesome! Have fun! :-)
Thanks a lot Serge.
You are very welcome :-)
this was a amazing video thanks fot the prests gonna try it on my photo's
Awesome happy you liked it!!
Great video and very useful pressest! Thank you and greetings from Cologne, Germany
Awesome! Hello from Los Angeles!
thank you so much. I am now getting interested with black and whte
Awesome! Have fun with that!
Great tutorial. Learnt a lot. The free presets are the cherry on top. I don't know any other professional photographer who give away free presets. Everyone is selling them and promoting their presets 100 times during the video. Thanks man your approach is a welcome change.
Oh thanks! I very appreciate that! It really means a lot! I try to provide as much free stuff as possible ;-)
Franchement canon!
Awesome...many thanks...
You are very welcome :-)
Très intéressant. Merci bcp Serge
De rien! Tout le plaisir est pour moi :-)
Very informativ !!! Great Job
Thank you! Happy you like it!
Do as many vids based on shooting in Le Jardin du Luxembourg as you like! Many years ago I used to walk through it on my way to work and I'm always happy to see it.
I know it is such an amazing place! :-)
Don't forget that Ansel also used a method to create negatives with compressed or expanded contrast by a combination of exposure and developing (we can simulate this in digital photography using HDR). Using a HDR image and dodging / burning should be ideal.
Exactly!
Great video Serge - thanks very much. Just a question: Do you generally shoot underexposed images aiming just to get details in the sky as your first priority?
Yes for sure!
I watch most youtubers at 2x playback speed, Mr. Ramelli I play at normal 1x speed.
I like the fast pace :)
Hehe :-) happy to hear!
I see on the top desktop tab you use also a Wacom Intuos Pro tablet, are you planning to do a video on that too ?
Not really because I don’t use it often because I travel a lot
29 peoplpe (at this time) thumbs down? Seriously? Thanks for another great video, Serge,
You are very welcome ;-)
Great presets and tutorial Serge. I use ON1 RAW 2020. Is it possible to download similar presets for this software?
No sorry only Lightroom :-)
Serge, I love the looks I'm been able to get with your presets which I've used, but I'm having a problem with one of them. Namely, when using your " BW drama radial circle middle" preset on a shot of the walls in a slot canyon, I get a white fringe on the right wall edge toward the middle where your gradient filter is. I've tried numerous adjustments to get rid of it, but nothing fully works. Any help would be appreciated. I imagine your response would be useful for many of us trying to produce dramatic BW images. I can't attach the image to this comment to show you, unfortunately
send me the photo to my email sergeramelli@gmail.com
Hello from Atlanta! I have been photographing for two years and am self-taught. That means I am still a beginner! I purchased the $89 recent special that everyone had, from your site because you seem to be the best in LR which I have subscribed to. I mostly do not use it as it is overwhelming.
I have an X Pro 2 and a Leica Q. If I want to use these presets, do I have to shoot raw? I only shoot raw with my Q, but my Fuji does have some great JPEGS.
I am going to London in two weeks. I am thinking I will take the X Pro 2 only because I have two lenses, the 23mm and 18-55.
I am sorry this is so long. I am just kind of lost. I love both my cameras. I also love the things you do in LR but ALL of it is a bit of a mystery to me, who is self-taught... Can you tell me which camera you would bring and how you could help me with LR?
Thank you for taking the time to read this. I just need some help, please.
Sean
Hi Sean! You should definitely shoot raw to get more data and develop your photos and also you should keep on watching my videos because they will help you out on the shooting and retouch aspect :-)
Basically Ansel created the first photoshop system.
But Ansel Adams never used a spot meter to determine where the zone of his pictures were, he just had so much experience it was something he learned just by eye. He know what he wanted and did all his adjustments in development if he wanted to more for highlight he developed N+2 of more shadow N-2. When using digital you don't need to know the zone system. Just shoot raw and make all your adjustment in photoshop or light room.
really nice results. I still find difficult to make sky dark and clouds white. you seem to simply brush with 70% density/flow and don't seem to play with luminace range. in sylver efex pro2 you first use a orange-yellow filter which already helps and then just put a upoint in sky or on cloud and add structure, exposure,... amplify black and white in sep2 is also so powerful.
but using your presets under LR is so fast and natural (no plugin, no big tif,...) !!! It is a pity Adobe doesn't add some features in their BW module...
Sure, but yes that is a workflow that works for me :-)
Is simple. Just works with blue and cyan .from camera raw or lightroom or silvereffect.
Dont need presets..
hello Cloro, you are right but HSL is not local and other blue parts (sea,...) are impacted. so you need to use gradient outside image, use color range, use erase brush in this gradient,... the prehistory :-)
Fabulous presentation of the zone system! I spent 1970-72 learning and practicing Ansel’s Zone System. Love what you do! Thanks for the presets! I don't what you can do, but this video was preceded by TWO ads with no skip! At some point, this will become unbearable for my old nerves!
Sorry about that, TH-cam ad can be annoying! But thanks for the support! :-)
Pressing F.
Excellent videos, especially those dedicated to black and white, it seems that presets are no longer available.
Thanks! Here are some for free www.photoserge.com/photography-toolbox-free
@@SergeRamelliPhotography Thank you so much!!
Hi Serge, raw or jpeg for animals & landscape??
❤❤❤❤
`Great vid Serge, always like your content. For me I have difficulties finding more views on my Instagram. Do you have more advice about that? I already saw your businessvideo in the package that you offered.
Nice! If you post regularly, use good hashtags and go and like others photos you should improve your followers rate
thanks!@@SergeRamelliPhotography
Hello Serge Ramelli !!!
I want to pursue Fine Art Photography (Macro, Portrait, Architectural, Object-Oriented, and Black and White Photography).
So, Kindly Please guide me which camera should I go for? (Crop or Full Frame!?... Fuji or Sony!?) It will be a one-time investment.
And please some Lenses recommendation too. :)
Waiting for your precious reply...Thank You!
Love and Respect from India.
You will find all your answers here: www.photoserge.com/camera-kits
Wonderful video, but when I go to the link to download the presets, there is a charge of $9. I thought you said they are free. How do I obtain the free ones?
It is just don’t accept the ad :-)
Where did you get the original Ansel Adams digital photos from?
That’s mine not ansel Adams :-)
@@SergeRamelliPhotography Sorry as soon as I emailed it I realized. Will you be doing B&W Yosemite book? I have some ansel adams books on my xmas list
How can I import the preset to IPad app?
Dear serge bonjour from Bahrain, I spent tonight watching most of your videos and I wish you can do some (daily life with people) video tutorials as most of your videos are about landscape which is not helping me at all
Okay, well that is my specialty but yes that is a good idea for future video :-)
you missed Ansel . the dark from above is overbearing . a statement
Are you creating new adjustment points or are you just moving the one you created. Forgive me but I am old and new to Lightroom. It appears that you are making new adjustment points but I am not seeing how you are doing it.
I used presets and then modify them depending on the situation :-)
Bonjour, merci pour votre travail.
A quelle adresse mail puis-je vous envoyer une photo ? j'aurais besoin de votre avis ! merci d'avance !
Pas de problème: sergeramelli@gmail.com
Can it be used in Adobe Camera Raw?
No sorry only in Lightroom :-)
Serge Ramelli Photography ok, thanks
Presets!
Yes!
you said it's for free and when i click on the link i have to pay 9$
This is an ad you can just ignore it but if you enter your email address will be sent to your email
I lowe
Thanks

Sorry, couldn't help laughing.
No offense please, your English is great for a French speaking person.
Haha sorry :-)
But Ansel’s prints will blow away and destroy anything made on digital . 🤣😜
These are not free. Link takes you to his site which charges $9.00.
You have the option to say no and just get the free ones, look on your email
tutoriels I did not get an email for free presets. The email I got was from Flipboard with a recount of top stories for the day. I do enjoy all of your videos and all the hard work that goes into them. I’m just seeing the link for the free presets...
That is weird well if you still have an issue you can contact support@photoserge.com
I enjoy your videos. I love the creative ideas using Lr…. But trying to download these B&W presets was a real pain in the ass. I tried 3 times and gave up. I understand you need to make money, you're too commercial for me….
Serge- Within in minutes you sent an email with a direct link to download the presets. Thank you… I stand corrected. I purchased your Paris B&W Book, outstanding...
when you enter your email and sign in the presets are automatically added to your library on photoserge.com you can ignore the ad
thanks a lot
Why would you adjust the exposure after setting the black/white point? Makes no sense to me at all. Presets are pointless unless editing lots of almost identical photos IMO, I'm surprised you promote their use so much...
Well they have helped me a lot! I did a whole fine art book with them and I always use presets as a starting point, to me it can take you places that I would not have thought and I can fine tune it the way I want :-) it is part of my workflow but I understand that it doesn’t work for everyone :-)
@@SergeRamelliPhotography I can understand the general settings presets, but all those local adjustments are easier to just make new ones on every photo IMO, but each to their own. So about the exposure question? Wouldn't that better done before setting the black/white points?
Not necessarily, I find it better to do the white and black point first because it already give me an exposure to start from and then I can tweak my exposure, that is a workflow that works for me :-)
@@SergeRamelliPhotography the exposure affects where the b/w points are, though...they will not be right after changing the exposure setting.
Imagine being so delusional you believe you can approach the subtle nature of an Adams print. Imagine being so delusional you think your digital camera can come close to the resolving power of an 8x10 or heck 4x5. Most people haven't even seem an Adams print in person to have the least idea about comparing this guys gimmick to a true master's work
