I’ve been using this technique for years. The luminosity mask was my favorite add on.
Here you go! ;-)
Serge, love this technique. However with the new mask menu, I'm confused as hell. Can't seem to get the luminance dialed in properly. Could you do a quick update on this video with the new LR masking tool menu? Many thanks!
"It's not very natural but was one of my most popular images on Instagram."
Shocking.
Great video. I'll definitely try.
Okay cool!
"Dodge and burn for lazy people!" We're all looking to save time on post-processing, and this is helpful indeed. Thanks.
Hehe awesome!! So happy you liked it!
So right haha =)
I personally am not looking to save time on post-processing, because for me, that's the fun bit. Taking photos is a massive pain in the arse, but I really enjoy the editing process. If a picture takes me literally all day to get right, the immense feeling of satisfaction and pride I get at the end is just awesome. If I take a photo that's pretty much perfect straight out of camera, that really annoys me.
This is also why I bloody-mindedly refuse to use Lightroom and Photoshop, and instead use Darktable and GIMP. The fact that those two are free is a bonus, sure, but what I love about them is the incredible frustration while I'm using them, followed by the enormous satisfaction when I finish.
@@quasarsphere there are all kinds of people, I guess :) As long as you get the satisfaction out of your work, good for you.
quasarsphere 😂 i like it
This is my favorite video on TH-cam now. Can you do a video series like this for lazy people 😅? I am definitely a new subscriber because of this video
That’s so cool! So happy to have you!
Not only is this a time saver but it allows for an almost infinite level of control. We owe you big time, Serge, for posting this awesome technique. Slainte !

You are welcome!!! :-)
Hi Serge, Could you possibly do an updated video using this technique with the new Lightroom Classic? The intersect tool with masking is super confusing.
Yes, I'm struggling to do the luminance range on the newer version.
You’re my favorite photography guide. I’ve been watching for two years and everything you have shown, I have used TODAY. This is extremely useful, I just want to say thank you for making such useful videos for free, I appreciate it so much. Don’t stop making quality videos my friend!

Really liked this. Will use it quite a bit. Thank you Mr. Ramelli.
Perfect! Thanks!
That's a fantastic tip. Thanks a lot
You are so welcome
Wow! Awesome new method for D&B - thank you, Serge!
No problem my friend!
One of my favourite things to do when editing some (but not all) of my own photos is to ask myself two questions:
1: What would Serge Ramelli do?
2: Alright then, so how would I do that in GIMP?
This results in me using tricks and techniques that I'd never have thought of had it not been for your videos, and getting final images that look nothing at all like what you do. This pleases me, because, much as I love your work, I don't want to be a Serge Ramelli clone. I want my stuff to be MINE. I think I'm well on the way to achieving my own style, and what I've learned from you has been absolutely invaluable. Thank you very much indeed! :)
That’s really awesome and the best compliment ever! I want you to create your own style!
This technique is incredible. Thank you so much!
Awesome! So happy you like it!
Thank you it’s so good

amazing!
Cool tip, thanks!
awesome ;-)
I don't want to be arrogant, but especially in the early days of my photography hobby I learned a lot from your channel. However, this is another video where I am certainly learning something. Very simple and logical, but never thought about it. I will certainly apply this to my edits, if necessary 👍🏻
Awesome well very happy you like iy
Awesome trick!
Thank you so much!! :-)
In the new Lightroom, this trick with dodge and burn doesn't work. Do you know how to do it with the news version of Lightroom? Please Serge!
I am glad you found this idea. Very useful.
Awesome! Glad you like it!! ;-)
Smart technique! Also a tip for you: use the / key to see before and after instead of resetting everything or make a copy.
Right thanks!!
Thank you for this very good tip, Wesley! Btw, on a german kbd the shortcut is Shift V, if you use the french kb layout it is Shift S. (I am not sure that / is correct for the US keyboard, shouldn't it be the backslash \ key? Anyway, the correct shortcut for the current language is always shown in the menu.)
Extremely useful and time saving!!! Thanks for sharing.
Perfect! So happy you like it
Very nice video thank you for sharing
You’re welcome !!

Thank you for the video, it saves a lot of time! Just another quick tip for everyone and @Serge Ramelli: you don't need to create a virtual copy for before and after, just press "\"

Thank you Serge! Can't wait to try this! I spend far too long painting precise brushes 😳 at first I thought you were going to do a side gradual filter with the luminance mask but I didn't realise you could do it for the brush too 😍 time saver thank you 🙏
