Thank you very much for this excellent presentation. I am 64 years old and I have been an admirer and defender of these great XIX-century painters who worked within the academic tradition but who also combined it with a great realism since I was a teenager. It is shameful but there are almost no modern books about these great painters. The only exception is the magnificent catalogue of the exhibition dedicated to Jean-Louis Ernest Meissonier organised by the city of Lyon in 1993. At that time I was in France and luckily managed to get a copy.
Thank you for this education - I had seen a few of his works before, but the addition of this attentive biography deepens my admiration of so astounding a master.
Again, another interesting and inspiring video, they get better and better, i appreciate this Chanel so much. Recently i found an unknown artist: Nicolae Grigorescu, would be worth looking at i think..
For those interested in French history painters I recommend three excellent books from the sadly extinct French publisher "Editions Copernic". Between 1978 and 1980, "Copernic" published three beautifully illustrated monographs: "Detaille: L´heroisme d´un siècle". "Alphonse de Neuville: L´epopée de la defaite" and "Meissonier: Trois siècles d´histoire". They may be expensive but they are worth their price.
First class presentation of an incredibly talented and hard-working artist.
Bravo👍
