Thank you for this most beautiful inside video. It's most interesting and enjoyable, as all yr video r. Please keep in going. We r so grateful to u.

    Bathers (1870) - absolutely stunning!! Isn't it amazing how the lives of these great talents are so intertwined, and how often it has happened over the times? Dr Gaschet a real patron of the arts!

      You are very right, I think northern France in the latter part of the 19th century must have been a great place to be an artist.

    Cézanne truly was a man of dedication and iron will. He left us a legacy of beautiful works of Art even though for most of his life, he never gained the recognition he really deserved.

    Incredible works off Cezanne. Most Impressionist had similar character. The story goes , when he was not sure off a painting, he would go out in his Orchard garden, and then hung the painting up in a Tree. . Later on toward sundown, his wife would go out taking the painting down, bringing it in house. Impressionist constantly , but for Renoir , was pushed back by Salon's... Funny , ones in New York, I went to a post Salons Exhibit, 18 Century. None off these Artist rembered today. Ironic , Cezanne had a unigely way off seeing . Wich later inspired Abstractions in Art,and Modern Art moment. 🖌️🎨📬🇺🇸🦅🇩🇰🗽💕👀,

    Une vidéo très sympathique, avec un choix d'images très pertinent. Une très bonne initiation à la vie du peintre. Trois erreurs cependant : à la 6e minute, les deux tableaux ne représentent pas le petit port de Niollon près de L'Estaque photographié en fond d'image. Le portrait de Paul junior en chaise haute est une plaisanterie issue d'Australie et non une oeuvre de Cezanne. Plus ennuyeux, le thème mille fois repris de la rupture entre Cezanne et Zola à propos de l'Oeuvre, aujourd'hui considéré comme une légende, voir sur le site internet de la Société Paul Cezanne : cezanne-et-zola-la-fin-dune-amitie

    • @ArtHistorySchool
      @ArtHistorySchool  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The three 'errors' One: 'the two paintings do not represent the small port of Niollon near L'Estaque photographed in the background.' - I never said they did. The background images are there to represent the area, not the specific place in the paintings, as in other instances in the video. Two: 'The portrait of Paul junior in a high chair is a joke from Australia.' It is not possible for me to authenticate each painting, I try to get each image from reputable sources including this one. It now seems the authenticity of this painting is being questioned. I put it in the video in good faith. Three: 'More boring, the theme a thousand times taken up from the break between Cezanne and Zola about the Work, now considered a legend, see on the website of the Paul Cezanne Society: cezanne-et-zola-la-fin -dune-friendship.' - Not sure what this means, but assume you are referring to the break between the two. It appears new evidence has come to light which I wasn't aware of. Glad you liked the video.

I work for a day service for people with disabilities and in these strange times we are continuing with our service remotely, via zoom sessions. I totally identify, as certainly many others must, with his struggles btw paying the bills and doing what he loved, certain relationships and personal freedom and happiness, and being different and unappreciated for it. Surely there's some of all that in every generation. But Cezanne was such an explorer where his painting was concerned. And for that and his ancestry to the rest of us, I applaud him! And you for these marvelous video lessons. Merci beaucoups, Paul.

    Cézanne's use of blue, I personally find it amazing, his use of it sets the tone of the entire background, with such a rich as well lush texture, to the the background , he's ventured into a realm where Cézanne's work has this dreamy, calming effcet, and it adds such a stable element to the whole of the painting.

But when you go to TH-cam with these glasses on you can literally walk into a painting and feel like your in the painting. Finally an artist that wasn’t so good at the beginning.
    It took him a while but damn he created some masterpieces later in his life

    9:00 Cézanne recieved a book edition from Zola in which he found a caricature( of himself )that showed how an artist hung himself because he was a failure. Cézanne wrote a letter to Zola and thanked him for the book but did not mention the caricature. From this very moment on Cézanne did not ever contact Zola again as he was hurt deeply.

    Once again Paul you have reminded me of the greatness of another artist I admire. I am becoming addicted to your wonderful biographies of these Artists. Your process of documenting these artists lives is particularly helpful in remembering their historical evolution as painters. As an (as yet amateur) artist and one who has visited many parts of France I am fascinated as you fill the holes in my knowledge of these artists. Thank you

    perhaps that was Cezanne's importance...that he added to the escape from typical art of the period..

    Cezanne’s painting was my all time favorite since high school because he expresses light with soft and subtle color in less than three in his paintings. Genius! ♥️♥️♥️

    The best doc i have seen on this master genius, and to hear of the remarks of Picasso and Matisse reinforces my own conviction that he was, along with Chagall in the top five masters of the modern era.
