Hi Nora, that first purl stitch is loose because of the extra yarn introduced when moving from knits to purls. My favourite way of avoiding that baggy purl stitch after working the cable is this: 1. Work the purl stitch. 2. Take the yarn to the back as if you were doing a K1P1 rib and tug the yarn . You will feel the excess yarn being pulled through. 3. Move the yarn to the front and continue with the purl stitches. Nice and simple and takes a nano second to do. Loving the show as always
Yes, I’ve recently started doing what you’ve described, and it’s working well. I learned it from Suzanne Bryan in this video: th-cam.com/video/ravgF2nmc5I/w-d-xo.htmlsi=i4bw04EUH4HzuPGs
I love your philosophy about not taking the knitting too seriously and embracing that our knits are not "perfect".....and yet they are PERFECT in their handcraftedness. I think as knitters, we can tend to get a little obsessive about it. Which takes away a lot of the joy. Your message is a good reminder that we knit because we love knitting and the pride of making special things with love. We don't knit because we "need" a sweater really.
Nora, I am so glad you started over with the new yarn. The sweater looks so much better and it’s obviously that you are so much happier. So happy it worked out for you. ❤
Thank you!! I really am too-it’s moments like these when I’m so glad to have knitting friends to bounce all the ideas and feelings off of! So thank you 🥰
You are so talented! That new intro is amazing! Also, you were so right to pick up the new brown yarn. It looks amazing and does really compliment you. And the trick for using the other brown yarn is genius!
Nora...challenging you to 13 minutes a day on your Sand cardigan. Keep it in a basket not in a bag so that it is ready at any moment. Put a timer on and get it done. You are going to be SO happy once it's finished. And you really are so close. Or at least 13 minutes a day every other day. You've got this!
I’m so happy I got to meet you in person today! Didn’t get to watch before RB today. I’ve been watching since the beginning and you’re as lovely in person as you are during your episodes. Cardi is even more stunning in person. 😍 you make a good case for Lambs Pride 😂
It was so so nice to meet you!!!!! Thank you so much for the compliment 🥰 they should hire me 😂 hahaaa I love the stuff!! I hope you enjoyed the rest of your weekend!
You aren’t the only one to notice a difference in the shades of brown! As soon as you held up the third ball of yarn I was like yep, so much better. Good choice!
Nora, your Beatrix Cardigan is amazing and I love the changes you made to the Artemisia sweater elevate the whole look. I just had the most amazing weekend knitting in Bar Harbor, Maine. I hope you had the best time at Rhinebeck! Happy knitting 💚🧶💚
I really enjoy watching your podcast Nora and I love ALL the content you discuss. I particularly enjoyed seeing and hearing all about your gorgeous Beatrix cardigan. This cardigan looks so very polished and "posh." I also loved that you used the 2 different yarns for the neckband of your test knit. You for sure have some wonderful creative techniques. Keep on keeping on ... 😊
Hi Nora this is the 1st podcast I watch (apart from the Rhinebeck one 😅)…. I must say you are excellent. The podcast was very informative….. love the cardigan (Beatrix) and also the test knit you have on the needles. I don't know if you are a teacher! You certainly are a good one congratulations…will be watching every week. P,S. you remind me a bit of Rebecca Clow, your energy and naturalness xx
That Beatrix cardigan fo is the most gorgeous thing ever!! The color is perfect on you, the fit and construction are top quality. WOW-WOW. You did good. :) You also did great on the re-do. I love your budget work around and agree 100% the new yarn is a much better choice for your complexion.
The way I audibly gasped when you held up the newly casted on Artemisia sweater - that color match is gorgeous!! It was meant to be, I can tell you will be so much happier with the finished object now. ❤
I'm so relieved that you restarted your Artemesia sweater. The color match is perfect and I think you'll wear it all the time now. I also love your money saving ideas. Have a fabulous time at Rhinebeck!❤🧶
OMG you literally found the EXACT match for that boucle yarn!!! I was going to suggest using black because I love black and brown together, but this is so perfect!!!
Great episode as always, and your cardigan is gorgeous! For the button loops, you might try the long tail crochet cast on (aka long tail crochet icord). I stumbled across this by accident on TH-cam, and as a crocheter first, my mind was blown at how easy this crochet technique is! Fiona Meade and the Snugglery both have tutorials each done slightly differently…I find it’s a little finer looking than single crochets over a chain, and I’ve used it for hanging loops on face scrubbies and wash cloths. I like that it has mirrored v-stitches top and bottom, it has only one tail, and to keep it from skewing, I sew the loop closed first before attaching to my project. There are other easy crochet cords that would also work and tend to be tighter and finer than the chain start that you used. Fun to discover other solutions, and this cord also makes a really lovely starting edge on crochet projects as an alternative to a chain start!
Hi Nora! The new Woolfolk #30 yarn is *perfect*! Also, I think your solution to use the other yarn on the inside is brilliant. Great video as always! Also, I hope that you had a better experience at Rhinebeck this year. 🌞
Oh my goodness I love your Beatrix Cardigan!!! I need to learn to just jump in and do it! I’m just scared to death I won’t be able to read my knitting to fix mistakes. Absolutely adore the whole vibe of your channel ❤
For the loops...if your main yarn is multiple strands, seperate a few strands and use a smaller kneedle. Like if it's 6 strands srperate 2 or 3 for how ever many inches you used for one of your crochet loops. Then you have your same yarn at a different thickness. I hope you havr fun at Rhinebeck! Cant wait to hear about it!
I've been using that same trick of seating the first purl stitch in the opposite direction to tighten up the first purl stitch on the square neck camisole that has 3x3 ribbing. It's working really well for me.
Love your videos, your personality and your projects! I would love to know where you find so much beautiful yarn to thrift… I have never gotten that lucky lol
Thank you so so much 🥰 my rule for thrifting is that quantity gets you quality! The more shops you can check out, the more likely you’ll be to have a good find! I travel a lot for work so I always make it a point to stop into allllll the goodwills on the way home. I have it down to a science and can be in and out of the store in less than five minutes if I’m just yarn hunting!
I recently won a copy of Memory Lane. It is indeed stunning. I am so excited. I don't know which one to make. That will be next year, though. You are much more productive than I am. But, I sure love the process, too. Enjoy Rhinebeck. I look forward to your report.
I hope you are having a great Sheep and Wool! I think it sounds like a lot of fun, but it would be perhaps frustrating for a low-budget knitter like me. Maybe some year when I have specific projects and money earmarked? I do absolutely agree with the new yarn choice, it looks really good.
Sorry I’m just seeing this now, but funny enough, that’s exactly how I felt! I did budget and was looking forward to setting aside that cash all year, but it’s very difficult to navigate the festival world on a budget. I chat all about it in my new video, hoping that us budget knitters feel seen 💛
Alternative loop ideas (to get thinner look): use speciality ribbon; use fabric where you make a tiny tube (like piping on upholstery items) & lastly, if you want to use same yarn, create a 2×2 stitch i-cord.
For the button closures, I have done a two stitch icord with integrated “buttonholes” that are right on the edge of the button band and are very sleek. Kate Davies uses them in her Carbeth Cardigan.
the carbeth cardigan has a very nice I-cord edge on the button band which leaves space for the buttons, difficult to explain, you can see it in the product pictures
Love your videos, due to my short attention span I have a hard time watching 30 minutes on an FO no matter how exciting (me problem). I assume that there are others out there who love seeing what you are making that have attention spans similar to mine. I am mentioning it, in case it is feedback that is of any use to you. My current solution is to fast forward to the next item when I lose focus. You are wonderful and talented, I will continue watching you and your wonderful creations.
Have fun at Rhinebeck! Having some FOMO over here on the West Coast of Canada... Your Beatrix turned out gorgeous! The colour is stunning! I think I would like to make one too. But for myself I would want to avoid the gap. Do you think it would work to add on a smaller double knit button band on either side for regular buttons/button holes? I definitely wouldn't want to lose the skinny cables. Great decision to get the perfect yarn for your test! Looks so good now. I have used different yarn on the inside a few times when the main yarn was a little too rustic. Works amazing!
Another option for waistbands with elastic is to seam down the knitted band (or finish however) but leave a few stitches unfinished, which will leave a gap/hole. Then pull the elastic through that gap, pull both ends of the elastic out of the gap and sew them together, then finish those last few stitches. Very similar to how an elastic would be inserted on a sewing project.
About button loops - I am knitting a sweater where I need button loops (without a pattern) and was thinking of making a long braid and then securing loop length pieces so that they don't unravel (look into whipping ropes if you aren't familiar). I am then going to sew these ends on. Do you think that would work?
Is the boucle yarn Chestnut or Walnut shade of canard boucle? On their site there is not a chestnut shade but their is a walnut which appears to be the shade you are using?
Hi Nora! Just recently found your podcast and am really enjoying it! For the button loops next time, maybe try tatting? It's a super-quick way to make nice-looking loops and ridiculously easy (at least the basics are, that's all I know!) Check it out!

Totally agree with the restart of your Boucle sweater! Good on you for going after the colour you really wanted! And the new match it PERFECT!!

Your boucle jumper looks soooo much better now!
Thank you!!

The new brown yarn is perfect! And the resourcefulness to use the first brown on the inside is such a great idea. Excellent work as always! 👏🏻
So lovely to see how much enjoyment you got out of the Beatrix cardigan very heartwarming ❤️
Your sweater is beautiful and now I would like to knit it too.

Right?! I think I was channeling the color analysis girlies 😂 I’m so glad I swapped it!
GENIUS idea on how using yarn you already had on the inside of your folded over band! Mind Blown!! 🤯
Nora another great podcast. You are so talented. Coming up with answers to your problems. It’s amazing. See you next time.
Such a big difference with the artemisia color change! The new color is perfection!
Oh my gosh the new yarn for your test knit is amazing !!! What a perfect match 😍
So satisfying when that happens!!
I'm so relieved that you restarted your Artemesia sweater. The color match is perfect and I think you'll wear it all the time now. I also love your money saving ideas. Have a fabulous time at Rhinebeck!❤🧶
Completely agree with your color choice on the browns!
Hi Nora, I love your videos! Amazing how much you did and grew in just 1,5 years. Fantastic love your projects!❤
OMG you literally found the EXACT match for that boucle yarn!!! I was going to suggest using black because I love black and brown together, but this is so perfect!!!

I love the yarn you purchased for the boucle sweater. It matches perfectly! Good job!
oh, the squirrel, loved the illustration. would love to have it as a sticker in my knittingjournal
Have a fabulous time at Rhinebeck!
Hi Nora, i love your cardigan!!!! I prefer the second yarn for the sweater, it's a hot brown while the first looks like a cold brown.
Your Beatrix cardigan is stunning! I love all the projects you have on your needles! Such a fun episode :)
So excited! It’s Nora time! OMG! Your sweater is so gorgeous! It’s so perfect I may have to take the plunge!
Hi Nora! The new Woolfolk #30 yarn is *perfect*! Also, I think your solution to use the other yarn on the inside is brilliant. Great video as always! Also, I hope that you had a better experience at Rhinebeck this year. 🌞
Thank you so much!! Definitely a much different experience!!
Hope you enjoyed Rhinebeck yesterday, it was a beautiful day there! The collar color change looks great, love it
The Beatrix Cardigan is so pretty. Yes, please make a video how you made the button loops.
And, I now must also knit a Beatrix Cardigan.
Oh my goodness I love your Beatrix Cardigan!!! I need to learn to just jump in and do it! I’m just scared to death I won’t be able to read my knitting to fix mistakes. Absolutely adore the whole vibe of your channel ❤
Thank you so so much!! I think this stitch pattern is more intuitive than it seems!!! I hope you try it 💛
Yes. Way better match for the Artemesia sweater. Couldn’t agree more.

I started typing and all of the sudden you said my name. Hahah! About 52:17. The tone is because you want to disagree. 😂
I've been using that same trick of seating the first purl stitch in the opposite direction to tighten up the first purl stitch on the square neck camisole that has 3x3 ribbing. It's working really well for me.

Use strips of silk ribbon to make the loops, or a high-quality black elastic cord.

New yarn is so much closer in color to the boucle
Gorgeous sweater!! For the loops - what about just a crochet chain??
I had tried that at first and they looked just a little off to me-the current ones are growing on me though!!
Agree ❤
I finished my stripe hype sweater and like yourself I love it
I see the difference - good choice!

I think that could be a great solution if you can get them thin enough!
100% agree that wool folk tynd is a much better match.
That is so clever what you did with that neckband!!! Don’t you love it when you luck out at the yarn shop?
hehe the braid goes from one shoulder across the top of your head and onto the next shoulder
Thank you for noticing 😂😂😂 I couldn’t help myself
I know nothing about making button loops so this might be gibberish...but would braiding the yarn tightly make a more elegant loop?
Be super careful not to felt your sweater Lambs pose felts up easily. Looks beautiful!
Great to know!! Thank you!
Hi Nora, Button loops... can you find a thinner yarn of a very similar color?
I think that would be a great solution!! I should have a look through my stash!
❤❤❤❤
Good morning 🌞
Could you make loops out of icord do you think 🤔.
Any chance of some chapters in your vids so we can find specific projects?
Is the boucle yarn Chestnut or Walnut shade of canard boucle? On their site there is not a chestnut shade but their is a walnut which appears to be the shade you are using?
Wow!! It is indeed walnut! I don’t know where I got chestnut from 😂 I’ll have to correct that!! Thank you for pointing it out!!
No problem!

Almost 24min in and it's still about that cardigan.
It is a beautiful cardigan.
@@carrotlover7763 she has knit it well, yes. But it's not that great for it to be the only subject. At least in my eyes.
@@baumwolke2078I guess you didn’t see my comment in the main section. I refer to my short attention span….
@@carrotlover7763 no I haven't seen it, sorry.
