NES Friend there’s a small band of us still obsessed with a dying store.
I only found it because it was recommended by Friday Night Arcade... I've searched for more NES content a bunch of times and mostly only peoples top 10s show up etc. I think this would have a much bigger audience if it wasn't so hard to find.

I played a lot of Renegade but have never played Target Renegade. Is it me, or does the sprite of your guy in Target Renegade look almost exactly like the sprite in NES Double Dragon?
I haven't actually ever played either of these, but knew a little about them. Great reviews!

I've always had a personal joke about Renegade. You're a swarthy guy with dark hair, your girlfriend is a blonde called Madonna, and you punch people. So I choose to believe I'm playing as Jose Canseco. My dad got it but nobody else ever has. I think it's pretty good tho
nice review Trav. I never really got into the Renegade series...to me I think it just sort of seemed to be an inferior fighting game compared to the others of the same genre.

@@scorponicdragonm.p.t. maybe not broken but not fun. very sluggish and with some odd difficulty spikes if i remember right. just not on the level of the others. tries to be classic double dragon too hard imo

Great overview. Too bad beat em ups aren't really my favorite genre. I'd play a new platformer everyday, but Turtles 2 and 3 are about the only beat em ups I need on my NES.
Of course Renegade is simple and not the best of its fenre. Its the first beat em up. I would be disappointed if it was also the best.

Technos Japan is the developer of both Double Dragon and Renegade/River City/Kunio-kun, which is why you see the similarities. It's not being ripped off by someone else. It's all the same group.
