  • Review and temperature readings of the JLT CAI "Cold Air Intake" for S197 mustang GT. Is it better than a stock airbox? JLT boast that you will Add up to 37 HP and 60 TQ with Tune.

    Do some research buddy, there is no such thing as a cold air intake, none of them can magically make air cold. But the JLT does in fact let in more air than the stock intake tube and filter and if tuned results in a power gain. And your air temperature will never decrease while idling.

      A closed box will not get over 10-15 degrees over ambient temp though so I understand where he is coming from. On a 83 degree day ive seen my intake temp gauge at idle up to 130 degrees, put on a closed box set up and same situation was 92 degree so yes they do bring way more hot air than closed box.

    Did you also test when driving? The intake can't magically make the air cold sitting still next to a hot motor. That heat shield and plastic tubing will get very hot if left to sit with the motor running but that's a problem with literally all intakes on all cars.

    • @JClement
      @JClement  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      themangiant then that would not be a CAI that would be a Ram Air Intake.

    • @JClement
      @JClement  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They should of buikt a better heat shield to keep the hot engine air out of the intake

    • @transdayofrevenge
      @transdayofrevenge 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Jeremy Clement no heat shield will perfectly keep heat out, especially when you let it sit like that. The idea of a cold air intake is not to keep the air cold at all times, it's to pull air from a cold source.

      the problem is not the jlt intake it works but its not completely blocked off from the hot air and second its designed to give you the added hp at higher rpms so when they dyno it they say oh look it made more power that is better when your going racing check out k&n they have one with a closed airbox everybody looks at hp people forget there's torque
      as-well so company's say hey put long tube headers an x pipe and cold air and you'll get big gain in horsepower yes there right but what they dont tell you is that going that route not all the time but i would say most of the time unless your running forced induction you wont fell much of a difference in low to mid range because those parts are made for higher rpm gains just like most of those cai that the filter is exposed

  • @fatsmile77
    @fatsmile77 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    That seem just about right. When I'm at idle hood closed, it reads up to 137 or so. Once the car is moving it drops 100-110.

    • @JClement
      @JClement  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah what a disappointment. I do feel some gaines in the butt dyno but I'm sure it would deliver a lot more power if they could keep the intake temperature down.

    • @maker7901
      @maker7901 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@JClement the tube size is allowing more air to go in the engine so your still getting gains from it. and if you have a tune added on top of it youll see even more gains.

    30 degrees over ambient isn't bad, at least compared to what it probably was. On my zx10r and s1000rr Superbikes, with ram air intakes going pretty much directly into the motor I would still usually read 7- 10 degrees above ambient, and that's pulling ambient air pretty much directly into the motor. You would imagine a closed off engine compartment would be way worse.

    Where is the cold air going to come from when stationary? 🤔

    • @JClement
      @JClement  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kevin Reay the hood was open and the CAI has a heat shield it should not be pulling air from the engine bay. Thats the point. Even if the hood was closed it still pulls hotter air than the outside temperature.

      Jeremy. The heatsheild can’t do its job of the hood is open. It needs to be shut to seal it off from the engine compartment. And even then with it sitting still it will still get some hot air.

    Idk why they still market them as "cold air intakes". The factory intake on most modern cars already gets the coldest air possible short of extending it out past the grille or body. They should market them as "high flow intakes" since the reason they're able to give you more power is because of the bigger filter and sometimes bigger, more free flowing tube and maf housing. Regardless, they require a tune to make use of the extra airflow.

    Hes not wrong about everything, CAI on these cars are a waste of money. American muscle wont even show a stock airbox and a tune with stock airbox for a reason .... they do next to nothing for the most part and they need to sell these kits . Almost every CAI and tune kit gives the same power, about 25rwhp at peak.

    Bit your gripe is IATs so maybe throw the factory intake back on and check IATs again. Bet it's pretty close. Both the factory and aftermarket intakes get air through the grille right next to a hot radiator so even if the heat shield works 100% you're still sucking in air from right next to the radiator while stationary.

    Does anyone one what EXACTLY filter that is??

  • @maker7901
    @maker7901 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    theirs always going to be some form on warm air it doesnt matter were it comes from engine heat outside temps plus the MAF or IAT sensor is going to get warm no matter what. now if it winter time i can understand if the temperature is much lower.

    It doesn’t mean literally cold air! It is a cooler air intake rather than the air from the engine bay.

    I left the factory air intake on my dodge challenger hellcat and my shelby gt 500 there just better than any after market garbage .the factory ones are true cold air boxes jlt just suck in hot air robbing horse power, people will never learn to stop getting suckered by these companies like jlt. If you want the engine to breathe, better, leave the factory cold intake and just add a k & n air filter

    I added insulation and foam to PLUG THE INDUCTION OF HOT UNDER-HOOD AIR.
    the MASSIVELY OVERPRICED CARBON FIBER GT500 INTAKE, is a ugly to fix a problem and lower the IAT1 (before the Throttle body) and inquired about the design of the "gen II heat shield" and they as normal tried to $haft me, again. I am building my own and have built many for trucks and cars for pennies on the dollar and they work GREAT!!!

      Edward Van Buren go with pmas tune required intake or a Steeda Tune Required Intake. give the best results for the money, the jlt is a good enough CAI but those other 2 or on a new level.
