    Everything you need from this video:
    1. clean everything
    2. apply carbon paste to the seatpost regardless of frame/post material.

      And me, a brand new bike! Dealer a reputable one at that, says he will contact Giant for advice? what is going on ? on my old bikes cleaning and a good tighten always worked, must be like every new product so full of tech it doesn't want to work in the real world.

    Most of the seat slipping issues i've seen are on a different type of clamping system. D shaped seat posts with the little wedge piece clamp are the ones I've seen most. I built a Cheap Carbon bike for my channel and had similar issues. But NONE of the normal solutions worked for me. I had to use a combination of paste with a folded paper wedge. But the type of clamp you're using here doesn't usually have these sorts of issues. Not in my experience anyway. I do appreciate the content though.

    1: Take it apart as much as possible
    2: Clean everything
    3: Apply anti seize compound (if your on an alloy frame, assembly compound on carbon) to the surface between the seatclamp and the frame
    4: Reassemble and reinstall the seatclamp. Be sure to apply some grease to the screws and switch them out if they are rusty.
    5: Apply grease (alloy) or assembly compound (carbon) to your seatpost
    6: Reinstall seatpost
    7: Tighten the seatclamp. It does not need to be too tight. If the saddle doesn't move, you're fine.
    8: Done

    I've been having problems with the seat post slipping on my new aluminum frame bicycle. Until now, my solution was to torque the clamp to the maximum of 8 Nm, an obvious mistake. I will follow your suggestions, THANKS!

    My aero seat post slipped even with carbon paste on it . The tolerances were out quite a bit. I got some anti slip tape which is basically sandpaper with a sticky back and put a strip of that on the back of the post then put carbon paste on. It's not budged since.

    I just used a piece of the rubber that comes with light mounts rolled it stuck it in hole then stuck post in. solves any slipping but a devil to pull out.

      @BikesBlades 4 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      If you can get a rubber shim between the seatpost and the frame, you've got the wrong size seatpost.

    Instead of some rip-off carbon paste, I used Vim which is a paste with a fine grit. Works like a charm. No more slipping.

    This is wonderful! I have a pinhead lock that i have been busting my hand trying to lock it down multiple times as it always sinks the seat. I will buy these things right away! Has anyone else had problems with pinhead seat lock sinking down?

    • @WrecklessSandwich
      @WrecklessSandwich 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm having some trouble with that right now. I just overtorqued it before watching this video and it doesn't sink anymore when I sit on it, but it still rotates. Going to give the compound a shot.

    I ending up using JB weld to stop the rails from sliding back. Carbon fibre paste is only good if your rails are made from Carbon not alloy.

    On my old bike from 1984 I have the opposite problem. The seat post is completely stuck in the frame, probably due to a galvanic reaction between the CrMo steel frame and the aluminium alloy seat post. Any ideas of what to do about that?

    bike builders could come up with some gear against gear teeth solution in the locking mechanism, that would mayby work too.

    I always put plenty of anti-seize inside the frame where the post goes in and on the seat post. Talking from experience!! Getting a stuck post out is not fun. A lot easier just to put anti seize in there. I got a QR Aluminium seat post clamp.

    Why the seatpost have two bolts, sounds more work to tighten unnecessary.

    2:30 grease is fine on carbon fiber. Please do not propagate the myth that grease is bad for carbon.

  • @BikesBlades
    @BikesBlades 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That's way too much carbon assembly paste. That's going to get most seatposts stuck in the frame, in my (admittedly limited) experience.
