Snyder LOVED Jeff George and when George came in and had this game, Snyder tried to force Norv Turner to keep him as the starter once Johnson came back. Norv didn't want to, it led to a public spat, and Turner ended up being fired in the middle of the year with a 7-6 record. Snyder needlessly created a completely unnecessary QB controversy by signing George in the offseason to a pretty good sized contract while Johnson was coming off a Pro Bowl year and had just had the best season of any Redskins QB since 1991. Johnson was playing the entire year looking over his shoulder and it showed on the field. After he returned and had a particularly bad game against the Giants, Snyder unceremoniously fired Turner. It all goes back to this game.
But why should Johnson play worse looking over his shoulder? That should motivate him to play better. Shouldn’t a pro bowl player step it up under pressure? I will say that George was known for having a bad attitude though so he is not a guy you want in your locker room. I think some other issues were Westbrook missing almost the entire year (he had 1,000 yard year in 1999 as a wide receiver) and the running game not being as dominant as it was the year before. So Brad Johnson didn’t get the same help around him that he had before.
The Redskins were actually the number two team in the betting odds to win the Superbowl during the 2000 off season ironically, given this video, the defending Superbowl Champion Rams were number one.

Brad Johnson was coming off a Pro Bowl season but this is when Snyder started playing real-life fantasy football. Johnson wasn't playing well that year, looking over his shoulder pretty much every game. When George came in this game and blew the doors off everyone, Snyder insisted George remain the starter when Johnson got healthy. But Turner liked Johnson, who is the owner to tell him how to coach his team anyway? So after Johnson returned and had a poor showing against the Giants, Snyder fired Turner who was 7-6 at the time. It's still baffling that Snyder would have gone out and got Jeff George in the offseason and thrown so much money at him. They had their Pro Bowl QB, Brad Johnson. Snyder simply thought he knew better.

This was also the season where Snyder was charging fan $10 to watch training camp and by NFL rules teams were aloud to come in and scout the team and I truly believe some teams that played us knew exactly what plays we were running and it contributed to some losses. I remember our tight end at the time Stephen Alexander even stated after a loss to Dallas that it seemed like they knew everything they were doing.
